Following on from the fantastic thread of the weekend, I thought we'd continue discussing our brexit cupboards and boxes here. Here's to all the preppers and their cupboards, no matter what they contain. (Keep quiet about your stash in real life).

Good ideas there Apile 👍

SteveMcqueensJeans · 07/02/2019 23:48

I bought 3 large boxes with lids from ikea and did a shop. Loads of space left and the only things I bought that I wouldn't normally buy are tinned mushrooms, potatoes and corned beef. STBXP feels vindicated that I am clearly losing it so I'm clearly mad to be asking him to leave. Hmmm two weeks sunshine and you are out. I did say he could come over for meals with the kids if the shit hits the fan but if continues to take the puss he can get stuffed! His response 'I'll go to the chinese' 🙄. I genuinely don't care if anyone thinks I'm bonkers 😂 my top buy today was kidney beans and fajita dinner kit. Loads of frozen peppers and onions in that and bingo! Fast tea if the leccy ends up on the ration too!

slithytove · 07/02/2019 23:56

How is everyone organising their stash?

cloudtree · 08/02/2019 08:12

There's a thread on organising your stashes in the preppers topic if you wanted to pop over there.

Mine is now a bit disorganised and so I'm hoping to get time to do a proper stocktake at the weekend and to arrange everything with the earliest dates at the front. I started off really well with a spreadsheet. As I've picked bits up on an add hoc basis I've lost track a bit.

cloudtree · 08/02/2019 10:03

My friend has just told me that on Polish TV last night there was a programme about potential lack of food in the UK as a result of Brexit and advising people living here to stock up. She's off to buy a whole crate of flour today since apparently our flour is too hard Confused. Not sure what she means but apparently it's rubbish compared to Polish flour.

Camomila · 08/02/2019 10:20

There are different grades of flour maybe? Like you use ‘00’ flour for pasta (but I can’t always find it in England), then there’s plain flour, then there is bread flour...

I’m practising batch cooking....because I accidentally left the freezer door ajar Blush

DH bought a big bag of frozen green beans the other day (DSs fave veg) I think they taste watery but DS ate them all happily.

Wolfcub · 08/02/2019 10:51

Added to my stash today. Mostly tinned pulses and tomatos which I can make a fairly varied selection of meals from for a few days, stock, toiletries etc

unexpectedgifts · 08/02/2019 11:28

Another prep shop, this time specifically for minced beef and blocks of cheese. I have enough to divide up to make eight meals for 6 of us.

I picked up corned beef and tinned soup some bread flour and cake flour.

Vegan cakes are amazing and don't use eggs or dairy so I will be cooking these if s**t goes down.

Also picked up a few squeezy long life lemons as we eat a lot of pancakes with lemon.

I ordered a 2.5 kg bag of textured vegetable protein (should last 6 months) and tried it last night.
I mixed it with stock, onions, sage leaves and some real sausage meat. It was really good. I can make 6 sausages feed 5 hungry men and me! So if food is scarce a little meat goes a long way with this method.

One or two more shops and I'm finished I think.

Whatthefoxgoingon · 08/02/2019 11:43

Good ideas there unexpected

Do you have any good vegan cake recipes? Never tried it but am intrigued.

Wolfcub · 08/02/2019 12:20

Which TVP did you buy Unexpected?

Fab will check it out thanks!

PerverseConverse · 08/02/2019 12:49

Ill be getting some too-thanks!

Tesco very busy today but forgot to check for signs of prepping. Everything well stocked though. I bought mainly sweets Confused it was a fun shop rather than food shop though. I have a good supply of treats now and more garlic paste and cheese and macaroni.

In Aldi today. All pretty chilled. Maybe a few people adding extras. Or maybe just buying their normal stuff. Hope a mix of the two.Wink

PerverseConverse · 08/02/2019 13:36

Lots of treats for dark and troubled days. That would last all 4 of us about 4 days if I let them loose on them! I've hidden them in the drawer in my bed where I hide all the Christmas goodies and will bring them out in small amounts over time.

I ate four of my precious Brexit Twirls after a bad day at work this week. Need to restock and find somewhere less easily accessible to hide them.

PerverseConverse · 08/02/2019 14:08

My chocolate stash was in the main brexit boxes so too tempting and the children knew about them. Now that I've hidden them they are safe.

bellinisurge · 08/02/2019 14:11

Great believer in treats.

Destiel · 08/02/2019 14:15

Yeah. Brexit it chocolate isn't lasting too long around here atm!

TheWomanin12B · 08/02/2019 14:18

I've had to put my Brexit chocolate in the garage fridge as I kept eating it. Blush

I think I need to get more sanpro and toilet paper.

NoWordForFluffy · 08/02/2019 14:34

I've got loads now. Our new freezer is rammed to bursting point! Even if the kids eat breaded chicken and fish alone we've enough to last ages! I got 4 extra large chickens reduced in Asda (so cost less than a large chicken; more to go round!) plus some diced beef in Sainsbury's. I stocked up on kidney beans, tea bags and plenty of treats as well (Kit Kats, biscuits, cookies, Haribo etc). We have enough baking ingredients to see us right for a while too. Might need more light brown Muscavado, but that shouldn't be a problem in the next few weeks.

And if we don't need it due to shortages, our food bill will be negligible for a month or so!

blibblibs · 08/02/2019 15:17

I've just been to Tesco and there were lots of empty spaces. Tins especially but there were quite a few offers on aswell. Toilet rolls were also on offer.
I went in for mince and spent £97 Shock but the wine stash looks a bit better now!

AutumnCrow · 08/02/2019 16:01

DP tried the tinned burgers. He doesn't seem wildly enthusiastic but he said they're edible. Just.

I think I'd prefer to go down drinking wine.

FriarTuck · 08/02/2019 17:38

I bought grated cheese to put in the freezer. Only problem is that all the other stuff I've been buying means that the freezer is absolutely full to bursting. The only way I'll get it in at the moment is by scattering handfuls across each drawer Grin
My dried veg arrived today though and I'll be ordering some seeds tomorrow to grow my own Brexit supplies.
