Following on from the fantastic thread of the weekend, I thought we'd continue discussing our brexit cupboards and boxes here. Here's to all the preppers and their cupboards, no matter what they contain. (Keep quiet about your stash in real life).

I'm thinking some tinned or just-add-water custard powder packets might be a good idea. I've never had tinned custard. Birds custard was what I grew up with and have stuck with it. Never had Ambrosia. I'm a bit Confused and like to stick to what I know and have a distrust and wariness huge anxiety about foods that aren't what I'm used to. Probably why I can't shop at Aldi Grin

The children are away this weekend. I intend to stash food then. I need to clear out the freezer to make room for frozen veg. I am in the middle of clearing the tops of be cupboards to fill up with non melty things like crackers and cereal bars. It gets hot up there.

Since saying I have no spare room in the flat, I have found space next to the loo for cleaning products, space next to the computer for something thin, space behind the sofa even though I claimed it was full. There is some space under the stairs. I store empty cases in there so going to fill those up with bulky lightish weight stuff.

I have been prepping on Amazon. Orders have been coming this week.

DD is allergic to the puddings so we do not have any.

Fresh veg is one worry. Going to clear the freezer and stock up that.

Done: deodorants baked beans and enough food for a week now as long as we do not drink milk.

I am used to eating weird combos so I can save the food for the children. They are more rigid. As long as I get some fresh food it will be ok. Plenty of energy stashed round my middle.

Going to eat plenty of fresh while it is still available.

I am really pissed off that we are having to consider this.

I'm joining you. DH rescued a few sturdy plastic boxes from work the other day so I went for my first prepexit™️ shop this evening and started filling them up. Am rather looking forward to corned beef and tinned potato hash.

I have bought some tinned custard - if you add in melted chocolate then cool, stir, freeze, stir, freeze it, you can make homemade chocolate ice cream. The texture won’t be as smooth unless you have an ice cream maker, but at least you’ll have ice cream in the summer.

I try to avoid supermarket ice cream as I’m always sceptical about how long the tubs have been out of the freezer and then refrozen. This year, the risk of Salmonella In A Tub is much higher so I’ll be giving Ben & Jerry’s a miss. I normally make my own ice cream anyway, but the custard base ingredients (eggs, milk, cream) will be scarce, hence the tinned custard.

VanillaSugarr · 01/02/2019 07:06

Funnily enough, Unilever stockpiles Ben & Jerry's and Magnum ice creams [[http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-47071874]] this is in the news.

VanillaSugarr · 01/02/2019 07:07

Stupid link doesn’t work - sorry!

Had this last night with some left over chilli. It was bloody lovely, we've had their mash which is much better than Smash (especially the cheese and bacon one) but for some reason hadn't held out much hope for sliced potato. Just add water and stick in the oven for 20 minutes

Much love here for Idaho mash.
Great tip about choc ice cream. Despite my love of choc I'm not keen on custard or ice cream so I haven't given it much thought but my dd adores choc ice cream in any form. More morale boosting yumminess.

borntobequiet · 01/02/2019 07:49

Unilever owns Ben and Jerry’s! Won’t be buying that any more. Stopped buying Hellman’s on principle, luckily Aldi mayonnaise tastes more or less the same so will be stashing that instead.

FloralCup · 01/02/2019 10:32

Just popped by again to say I've remembered mattesons smoked pork sausages. They don't need to be refrigerated!
Well done - I'd forgotten about these - I used to buy these (kept in the fridge) as a quick back up meal but would always eat them within the week - too tempting. But if I can keep them with my other stash I'll grab a few - thanks.
My stash is in the loft so it's as cold as a fridge at the moment anyway.

Myusernameismud · 01/02/2019 11:38

floralcup they're weird, aren't they? In the sense that I feel like I should be repulsed by them, and yet I can open one and finish it within a few minutes. So wrong!

Scandaloso · 01/02/2019 12:15

Fried slices of potato, fried slices of matteson sausage, a bucket of peppercorn sauce. I used to love that.

PerverseConverse · 01/02/2019 12:41

I have a 4 pack of baked beans and more chocolate now 😃 Also bought some super noodles to try.

I've just raided my stash for a caffeine fix.

I need to make sure this doesn't become a habit. Those easter eggs are calling me...

PerverseConverse · 01/02/2019 13:59

@cloudtree Easter eggs are on my list for next week. I need to make a list of what I've got this weekend and see what means I can make. Prices rising are a big worry for me.

Just been out to fill in a few more holes in my shopping list. Powdered milk added, topped up my store of tinned beans to its usual levels bought treat food for the weekend as the children are away and added to the tinned veg stash. I ignored the tinned potatoes as I hated them when last tried.

Morrisons was running out of the cheap beans but this often happens when they are on offer. Also got a couple of packs of pumpkin seeds and sweets for me.

ElenadeClermont · 01/02/2019 14:25

I need to make a list of what we have at home now. The stuff is everywhere.

BlackeyedGruesome · 01/02/2019 14:59

I am storing my treats in a hard to get at place so that I will not eat the whole lot of them in one go.

NoWordForFluffy · 01/02/2019 16:10

I've not bought any treats for me, just for the kids. I'll make cakes / cookies for us if we fancy something.

noodlenosefraggle · 01/02/2019 17:58

Yes I'm just storing treats for the kids. They don't know we have them, as I've stashed them in the secret Christmas present hiding place. I told my mum to buy their Easter eggs in advance too. She usually buys Easter eggs for about 50 children, so that should get us through!

Does anyone know what kind of mustard goes into macaroni cheese? I've found a recipe that includes mustard but doesn't specify and it's not something I ever eat so no idea.

OP posts:
TheElementsSong · 01/02/2019 19:49

I don't put mustard in macaroni cheese, but that sounds like a great idea! I'd imagine a milder one like Dijon would work best.
