Following on from the fantastic thread of the weekend, I thought we'd continue discussing our brexit cupboards and boxes here. Here's to all the preppers and their cupboards, no matter what they contain. (Keep quiet about your stash in real life).

I still need baked beans and more lentils and chocolate. Chocolate doesn't last 5 minutes with 4 of us in the house.

I've been getting supplies in for the last week and I'm now almost-stocked up. I've also ordered a bigger chest freezer as we are full to the gunnels and have had to borrow a small fridge freezer to store stuff until the new freezer comes on Monday!

I've got loads of frozen veg, including peppers, onions and parsnips which I've never bought frozen before. I've also got some frozen fruit and will buy more when the freezer is here.

I've 3kg of pasta, 2kg of rice and 12.5kg unwashed spuds which will hide in the understairs.

I've bulk bought sausages and have a good few loads of other meats etc. I'm going to try to raid reduced sections for a number of chickens once the new freezer is here.

I have loads of tuna and baked beans as well as tinned tomatoes.

I've got a few snacks / treats as well, so will be able to appease the small DC a bit if it does all go wrong.

I've also got strong flour and yeast so I can make bread if necessary. I have plenty of cake ingredients in too, as I bake often anyway. I'll buy a shit load of eggs in mid-March, I think, as they last way longer than the date on the box.

I still need loo roll, and will get that after I'm paid next week.

Altogether, I'm getting there!

I've been stopping by a supermarket almost every day and buying something for the stash but today was the first time I saw someone I thought was prepping. Was in Waitrose and saw a lady with about 20 packets of moist toilet tissue. Must be a favourite in her household!

Waitrose have kindly put lots of staples on offer so I came home with extra kitchen roll, multi-surface cleaner, binbags and sponge scourers. The shelves were pretty empty, although to be fair things on offer usually disappear quickly, Brexit or no Brexit.

elfycat · 31/01/2019 20:47

Grin that's so Waitrose!

My local Waitrose is in the next town so no special moist bottom-towels for us. Asda loo roll it is! Will try to get a 24 roll pack tomorrow, before going to see How To Train Your Dragon 3 and getting fuel for car.

Scandaloso · 31/01/2019 20:58

One must maintain a sparkling anus in Brexitannia! A year from now she'll be remembering her moist toilet tissue wistfully as she gives her bum a dab with a damp j-cloth.

AutumnCrow · 31/01/2019 21:02

I've been thinking about the Romans.

What did their mighty legions need to build an empire? I'll tell you what they needed. Salt. Flour. Fish sauce. And an arse sponge on a stick.

mystakenidentity · 31/01/2019 21:03

J cloth!!! 🤣😂🤣😂

ClocheEncounter · 31/01/2019 21:04

Wait, HTTYD3 is out? 😁😁😁

(Misses point of thread)

On the topic at hand, I have advised my DM of the advantages of a well stocked pantry and have bought a lot of chopped tomatoes, loo roll and oats for my forward purchasing/Brexit cupboard.

Also trying to grow a few different types of veg, which may or may not go to plan.

elfycat · 31/01/2019 21:11

Cloche out tomorrow. Not excited at all... I have 5pm tickets for us, local IMAX screen, middle seats, front row behind the gap for the lower 2 rows

ClocheEncounter · 31/01/2019 21:16

This is my envious face Envy

The most exciting thing happening to me this week is...umm...I’m planting some broccoli seeds.

I need to get out more, methinks.

Graphista · 31/01/2019 21:18

"Have you all noticed that the drive-by anti-prepping empty-slogan-spritzers seem to have dried up in the past few days? I think they've been scared away from the "forward purchasing" "buffering" threads"

What I noticed was a thread actively seeking no deal brexit positives got NONE posted! D'Oh!! All those brexiteers and not ONE of them could post something genuinely positive we'd get out of it. (There were a few joke posts)

I've also been very satisfied to be able to use info from this thread to respond to pro-brexit drive-Byers on FB! Where they generally then went very quiet when I posted info & links on

The hungry gap
We're not self sufficient
Price rises
Govt preparation including stockpiling

Got a lot of likes too!

One tried to make out as I wasn't a baby boomer I had no clue what I was talking about as Pre eec not in my lived memory - another baby boomer came on and put them back in their box! 😂

RosinaAlmaviva · 31/01/2019 21:20

LOL at damp j-cloth! Grin

For anyone planning to fill up, Confused.com has a page with lowest petrol prices in your postcode: www.confused.com/on-the-road/petrol-prices

elfycat love the idea of the Narnia cupboard...this is exactly what I have as there is a cupboard with dark hard-to-reach back regions where I'm gathering my stash. Didn't know what to call it on the spreadsheet but now it will be Narnia I & II!

Myusernameismud · 31/01/2019 21:22

Just popped by again to say I've remembered mattesons smoked pork sausages. They don't need to be refrigerated! They're not to everyone's liking, but we chuck them in pasta and DH has them with packet noodles occasionally as a bit of a dirty dinner. Come to think of it, pepperamis don't need to be kept in the fridge either, so something else to think about? They're on offer in tesco atm, and poundla d always have mattesons.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 31/01/2019 21:26

do pepperamis really not need to be refridgerated?

Scandaloso · 31/01/2019 21:28

Actually speaking of Waitrose, I bought a couple of these yesterday. Potato, bacon and onion hash. Doesn't need to be refrigerated.

Myusernameismud · 31/01/2019 21:30

Nope. Says for best taste keep chilled, but does not require refrigeration

Seeingadistance · 31/01/2019 21:40

Are tinned steamed puddings extinct? I can only find microwave ones in plastic tubs.

Tinned fruit-wise, I like the tinned oranges you get from Morrisons. I was first introduced to them by mistake - was aiming for grapefruit but missed. Have never seen them anywhere else, but will be a good way of getting citrus fruit, and more appealing to those with a sweet tooth than grapefruit.

ElenadeClermont · 31/01/2019 22:05

Melon smoothie is safely in the freezer. Wink

I've added a few new bits. Cereal bars for easy breakfasts (although I had to break into them on the way home because I forgot DS1's after school snack) and yoghurt pouches that don't need to go in the fridge. I'm a bit worried about DS1 because he's a very picky eater and will refuse pretty much anything unfamiliar (unless it is cake). I think I'm going to need to buy lots of the few long life things he will eat (Tinned sweetcorn, tinned pineapple, raisins, dried pasta, basmati rice, cream crackers). I'm hoping he will eat the yoghurt pouches.
I remember seeing tortellini in Aldi that were on the shelf- has anyone had these? Are they ok? He might eat that if it is similar enough to our normal ones (the cheapest Tesco spinach and ricotta ones)

AdoraBell · 31/01/2019 22:59

Tinned potatoes in a curry? Why didn’t I think of that 🤦‍♀️

AdoraBell · 31/01/2019 23:03

Royal my guess is they explode because they are water laden, maybe cut them and leave them out for an hour or so?

cloudtree · 31/01/2019 23:18

I always halve them

Scandaloso · 31/01/2019 23:21

I had an aubergine explode on me recently. That fecker went everywhere.
