BBC presenter John Humphrys suggested to the Irish Republic’s Europe minister, Helen McEntee that the Irish Republic should quit the EU and join the UK as a solution To Brexit. Such ignorance is astounding.

That sounds insane. I'm really surprised he said that.

Cleebope2 · 26/01/2019 19:22

How disgustingly arrogant of him

ssd · 26/01/2019 19:25

Idiot

Yaralie · 26/01/2019 19:26

Typical of the extreme bias of the Brexit Broadcasting Corporation.

PerverseConverse · 26/01/2019 19:27

I was disgusted by that interview. The Irish eu minister was fantastic.

ragged · 26/01/2019 19:28

Wot, magical thinking among Brexiters? Surely not.

Scandaloso · 26/01/2019 19:29

I'm not at all surprised he said that.

Humphry's is basically an ERG groupie.

Scandaloso · 26/01/2019 19:30

Life is much better and blood pressure is much improved when you wave bye-bye to the Today Show. It's haemorrhaged listeners in the past couple of years and I'm not one bit surprised.

PestymcPestFace · 26/01/2019 19:32

This attitude (shared by many Torys) is why brexit will never work smoothly.

The fecking pig ignorance is astounding but not uncommon.

HateIsNotGood · 26/01/2019 19:46

It isn't pig-ignorance to ask a pig-ignorance question at all, it just makes it a lot easier for an Interviewee to appear even more coherent than they might otherwise be?

It's dragging on and Interviewers are running out of questions to ask; and there's a kzillion hundreds of nondescripts around waiting to be asked more of the same questions.

Don't read more into it than there really is - which is nothing.

bellinisurge · 26/01/2019 19:48

He should be fired for that crap. Wanker.

Ellie56 · 26/01/2019 19:50

Hmm Shock

DrDreReturns · 26/01/2019 19:56

Was he possibly playing devil's advocate? Thanks haven't seen the interview btw and I think it's a ridiculous idea.

Figmentofmyimagination · 26/01/2019 20:00

A much better idea would be for just England and Wales to leave the EU.

bellinisurge · 26/01/2019 20:05

Here's the interview

There's "devil's advocate" and there's being a twat. He was a twat.
She was awesome and kept her cool throughout. She ran rings around him which very few uk politicians can manage.

LadyGregorysToothbrush · 26/01/2019 20:08

He’s an absolute tool

taeglas · 26/01/2019 20:12

Was he possibly playing devil's advocate?
Perhaps but as an Irish person I am deeply offended by his attitude.

OP posts:
Apileofballyhoo · 26/01/2019 20:13

He's not the first one to suggest it and I doubt he'll be the last.

And if he's saying it publicly, what do you think hard Brexiteers are saying privately?

www.newstalk.com/Lord-Nigel-Lawson-hopes-Irish-Republic-realises-its-mistake-and-rejoins-UK-following-Brexit

I'm absolutely amazed at UK politicians and journalists.

Scandaloso · 26/01/2019 20:50

He never plays devil's advocate for any stance but a hard Brexit. Funny that...

Apileofballyhoo · 26/01/2019 21:03

We're exiting because of imaginary sovereignty, but we'd like you to give up your real sovereignty to suit us. Like before. And your food would be handy. Like before.

DioneTheDiabolist · 26/01/2019 21:18

Does he really not know that most people think the UK is insane for leaving the EU? And it would be a cold day in hell before RoI would join the UK?Shock

What a fucking idiot.😂😂😂

BackInTime · 27/01/2019 00:23

People with attitudes like Humphrey’s are the reason Ireland mistrusts the British government so much and why need the backstop to protect the GFA.

ragged · 27/01/2019 08:33

Fantasists.

There are plenty of Brexiters still insisting that the EU will "blink" and cave to provide a "better deal" in last week before 29 March. Akin to people who insisted in 2016 that "German car makers" will guarantee that UK gets a good trade deal with EU, and that Article 24 in WTO means No WA = No Deal = "No Tariffs". After all, A great Brexit deal would already be on the Table, if only May wasn't PM; problem is lack of PM = true Believer.

bellinisurge · 27/01/2019 08:37

His question wasn't "for balance " or "Devil's advocate", it was goady bollocks playing to the bad boys at the back of the class (to paraphrase TUC leader".
Like asking the Chief Rabbi "so, this Holocaust thing is a bit overstated, isn't it?".

Stupid twat.

wrongsideofhistorymyarse · 27/01/2019 10:21

Bloody hell.
