Brexit

OK. Shall we Brexit?

I am an increasingly passionate Remainer.

But the time has come where I think Britain needs its arse whipping. I feel deeply sad for the 16m (me) who foresaw the oncoming car crash; but I now think the best way we can shorten the agony of the next few years is to let it happen; learn, beg back into the EU, accept the Euro etc.

I can't see any other way through this.

FTR, what angers me most is my own leaver friends, NHS HCP. Who WILL NOT discuss Brexit. As far as they're concerned, it's sorted.

The only vindictive retaliation I have is that both have DSs (also Brexiters!!) who have either lost jobs or whose jobs are in danger due to loss of profits.

But I guess that'll somehow be the fault of the EU...

Why accept the euro? I've not heard that mentioned until now so not sure where it's come from.

Only if labour are in government. Otherwise I'm very frightened that without the EU restrictions the Tory party will allow the exploitation of the most vulnerable.

Chocolatedeficitdisorder · 15/01/2019 23:06

I would love to stop Brexit and let this whole debacle fade into history.

I'm Scottish, and we didn't vote for Brexit but are being dragged into it. It's incredibly upsetting and frustrating to know that Scotland has no impact on Londoncentric politics.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 15/01/2019 23:10

Im not accepting the euro

Leafyhouse · 15/01/2019 23:14

Accepting the Euro would be a condition of re-joining. So if we begged our way back in, we'd have to give up the pound.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 15/01/2019 23:17

leafy

I think you are right

But i dont care

Im going to be fucking livid if we have to accept the euro

Ive been really good for 2.5 years saying that everyone voted for what they thought were the right reasons etc

But im going to be beyond anyone's control and my own manners if we have to accept the euo

Apart from that im relatively chilled Smile

Quietrebel · 15/01/2019 23:21

Just let's pull the plug now and keep our sweet deal (including £ so there is no need for rufus to go feral)

PerverseConverse · 15/01/2019 23:23

We've not left yet so don't have to beg our way back in or accept the euro.

MissMalice · 15/01/2019 23:25

No. I’m not interested in punishing those who are powerless or those who have been duped into believing Brexit is a good thing.

timetostepup · 15/01/2019 23:29

No matter who's in power when (if) we leave, the Tories will get in at some point. And then, they will allow the exploitation of the most vulnerable every time they get into power (as they do now) only they'll be free to fuck it up even more than they have already without European laws and agreements holding them back.

bellinisurge · 16/01/2019 06:20

If we Remain after all this, and I voted Remain, it is incumbent upon everyone to take seriously the reasons that people voted Leave and do something concrete about it. I don't give a shit about racists, they can fuck off back to their dung heap. But gloating about how people were duped by racists and disaster capitalists doesn't address the genuine concerns people have. People hate being told there were duped and were foolish to go along with the con.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 16/01/2019 06:23

If leavers want their concerns addressed they need to kick the Tories out, otherwise I have no sympathy.

whassupmissus · 16/01/2019 06:24

If we beg our way back in we can be bullied by the EU as can everyone - no one will follow through with a leave and so they become more powerful and confident, more imposing, more demanding. And we proabably will end up taking the euro. I think we are better if with no deal now

cordeliavorkosigan · 16/01/2019 06:29

I voted remain back in 2016 and would vote remain again if I could and there were the chance ... but i do see the irony in scotland feeling frustrated that it doesn't affect londoncentric politics while wanting to stay in the EU where for example greece and many other countries don't have key points of financial self-determination .. and in which scotland would have an even more minor role in affecting politics!
what a complete and utter mess this has become.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 16/01/2019 06:29

The EU isn’t bullying anyone, the UK needs to grow up and be a full committed member of the EU, not a petulant child.

bellinisurge · 16/01/2019 06:38

If you think no deal is manageable you are an idiot. Luckily, most Leave voters can see this. They might have hated WA as TM got it but they know No Deal is a fucking stupid path to take.

The thing that is worrying is a lot of leave voters WANT no deal. They are saying it's what they voted for. I think there are many like this. Just take a look at any 'Leave' group on Facebook. It's truly terrifying. They are sharing things like this: (not my opinion)

OK. Shall we Brexit?
AlexaShutUp · 16/01/2019 07:03

It's incredibly upsetting and frustrating to know that Scotland has no impact on Londoncentric politics.

In this instance, London doesn't appear to have had much impact on Londoncentric politics either. Like Scotland, London voted to remain...

bellinisurge · 16/01/2019 07:09

@AlphaJuno , I'm trying to be nice because, judging by the FB group comments I see, you are absolutely right. I am fighting powerful urges to say Fuck the lot of you, you're responsible for this. But it only gets me so far despite being very satisfying for a bit

whassupmissus · 16/01/2019 07:28

Of course no deal is manageable but not ideal. What we need is a better deal from the EU. Backing of now leaves us in a vulnerable position - we will never have any power to negotiate anything ever again. Remaining is a worse option

bellinisurge · 16/01/2019 07:40

Neither manageable nor ideal. That stupid myth needs to die a death now.

DippyAvocado · 16/01/2019 07:40

The EU have no plans to expand the Euro so we wouldn't need to join the Eurozone.

The only people who want to leave with no deal are either those who really do not understand what that means in practice or for whom Brexit has become some sort of cult where we must leave regardless of the incredible, irreparable damage it will cause. Nobody was even suggesting the possibility of no deal at the time of the referendum vote, and with good reason.

If immigration is such a big deal, the only way to stop FOM but not completely crash the economy or threaten peace in NI was May's deal.

A compromise deal that would fulfill the 'Leave the EU' box from the ballot paper but be palatable to the almost 50% who voted Remain would be Norway+ single market.

The best deal is the one we have at the moment. If you genuinely still want to leave the EU, you have to know it can't be done without a lot of economic pain and a loss of global political influence.

noodlenosefraggle · 16/01/2019 07:40

I really can't see a way out of this. People who want a people's vote are betting on remain winning. I know a couple of people who voted leave. They haven't changed their mind. They are relying on splitting the leave vote between deal and no deal, most of the people who didn't vote voting now and voting remain. Polls never tell the whole story. But no deal can't risk being on the table because its too risky. What if leave win by an even bigger margin?we're back in the same mess but having wasted a lot more time. I don't think we'll ever recover from this. We're tearing ourselves apart as a country. However this is resolved, there will be half the country who blame the other half for the mess we're in.

DippyAvocado · 16/01/2019 07:41

One of my FB friends shared that this morning Alpha. Luckily, it didn't seem to have any likes.
