Westminstenders: Plan B is Plan A again.

The voting starts around 7pm and is expected to finish up between 8pm and 8.20pm.

May is expected to lose. The question is by how much.

We are then expecting an immediate motion of no confidence in the government by Labour to be put forward.

May is expected to make a speech to calm the markets and then go to Brussels for an utterly pointless visit.

The Labour No Confidence is expected tomorrow afternoon after PMQs. Its expected to fail.

We move no closer to a resolution and ever closer to no deal.

Half the Cabinet want to go into cross party talks. Half the Cabinet don't.

May is apparently insistent that Plan B is Plan A. Which is what you would expect her to tell the house to comply with Grieve IV. Which again is bollocks.

But Bercow could yet refuse to indulge it.

If Plan B is Plan A again, then what's Plan C?

Crisis with a Capital C.

The stalemate grows.

When you think about it it's all such a bizarre exercise. They've spent all day on something they know is going to fail.

nicoala1 · 15/01/2019 18:43

And now the Austrian Chancellor Kurz says very politely to UK "F off"

Echoes Sophie de Weld from Netherlands last night. Interesting that Barnier, Junker et al are staying quiet at the moment. Good. Let the views of other EU countries at this debacle be seen.

If JC amendment gets through will there still be a vote on the WA?

HolySwearingCuss · 15/01/2019 18:45

Placemarking to share the madness with you all.

Well, I might be stressed (and can't drink alcohol as am on Day 2 of the MN Boot Camp Sad) and concerned about the political shenanigans going on but the cats are beautifully relaxed Smile You'd never know that dh had just put the fire on Grin

Hazard Grin

I've cancelled my evening activities, to get home, bung a lasagne in the oven and settle down in front of the telly. I'm officially a #politicsnerd now, I reckon.

DP and I have a sweepstake going about the size of the defeat. I think three figures but only just, less than 120, and DP reckons she'll lose by 162. I think lots of Tories will bottle it at the last minute and vote for the WA.

Holidayshopping · 15/01/2019 18:45

Good-@MissMalice.

There’s talk about MPs abstaining on Twitter. Whips are apparently putting pressure on Brexiteers to abstain rather than vote against Angry.

If you abstain on something this important, I actually think you should lose your seat.

Somerville · 15/01/2019 18:46

Where would you be hiding if you were my corkscrew?

We want no deal because we think it's the first step on the path to a Canada style deal.

Sostenueto · 15/01/2019 18:46

Oh yes they can abstain. God help us if it gets through!
I have TM on silent as I know her speeches off by heart now as I do JC. Pair of muppets is what they are.

Sostenueto · 15/01/2019 18:48

Yep any mp abstaining should lose their seat directly.

HateIsNotGood · 15/01/2019 18:48

New thread you say - so I'll paste my comments here:

Redux version - I agree that the best way forward is WA, it means that negotiations on the many, many salient points can be negotiated to Accord and remain workable until then. I voted to Leave and haven't changed my mind about that and won't. I knew it would be very complicated and I am not surprised by anything to date.

And I won't be surprised by anything that happens. I would prefer that Parliament accepts the WA and if they don't I am fully-'prepped' for any possible chaos because I always am anyway, many years of off-grid, near self-sufficiency and bartering have ensured that.

The side shows are packing up and heading to the Main Tent now, so we can only wait and see.

Best wishes everyone - and I mean everyone.

MissMalice · 15/01/2019 18:48

Interested to see how my MP votes. He started off supporting the deal, then said he wanted managed no deal and has been curiously quiet since then. Rich man representing a poor area so he’ll be alright whatever.

HateIsNotGood · 15/01/2019 18:49

Sos - re JC's amendment, I believe so - but it's up to Bercow and whatever anyone's personal view of him is as a person, he knows his stuff about Parliamentary Process, which is why he's had his job for so long. Just like Betty.

millyonth · 15/01/2019 18:50

Do you think they have to pay for their own doughnuts? Or are they on b us?

SusanWalker · 15/01/2019 18:50

TM said she will work with parliament in the next stage. Hmm

DarlingNikita · 15/01/2019 18:51

Couldn't agree more.

nicoala1 · 15/01/2019 18:52

I am sorry but EVERYONE should listen to the Dutch MEP on C4 last night. I posted link on the former thread, but it had already moved on.

I know LeClerc reposted the link, but I have to do it again.

Listen from 27.30 on and be amazed and maybe delighted that someone is saying what everyone else is really thinking!

Alex Wickham @alexwickham
May says she has "ruled out" all other options and her only option is winning this vote "tonight". So is she going to resign if she loses?

Oops! TM just upset the DUP!

Sostenueto · 15/01/2019 18:55

Oh its let's insult JC time. How predictable!

Belindabelle · 15/01/2019 18:55

I watched it last night. I wish more people would tell it like it is. All this going back to Brussels bollox. As if it is up to Europe to sort it out for us.

Theresa May says there is 'no guarantee' that a General Election will improve the Parliamentary arithmetic over Brexit.

'All it will mean is two more months of delay'
