The ERG to be the grinch that stole the Tory Party Christmas who ultimately get what they deserve.

To remain in the EU

Donald Trump's impeachment

For politics to be boring again

Whichever way we go now we have done huge damage to our worldwide reputation and political standing.
I am struggling to see any decent way out of this mess.
Our friends in other Eu countries are starting to say for the first time they may well be better without us.

Violetparis · 12/12/2018 15:17

Totally agree Pineapple

howabout · 12/12/2018 15:19

How has that panned out?

Not looking at 50 years of Tory Government and a proper Labour Leader in charge is a start.

If Labour got its act together and either decided on Remain and re- balance the economy or Leave and re-balance then Brexit becomes a side issue to normal (non-Tory) people.

1tisILeClerc · 12/12/2018 15:20

From that twitter link I am sickened by some of the pathetic comments that were written. The EU is right to move on without the UK.
Just a shame that so many are going to suffer.

Laura Kuenssberg @bbclaurak
Sounding like PM will tell MP s she won't fight the next election at 5pm - let her get Brexit done, and then get out of the way - let's see what she actually says later on

That assumes the DUP and the ERG won't stiff her...

Time to Revoke and get them to beg us to Leave on decent terms. Grin

Well that should piss them off nicely.

Not looking at 50 years of Tory Government

If we have Brexit, then the extinction of the Tories as a political force seems a fair return.

DGRossetti · 12/12/2018 15:28

Our friends in other Eu countries are starting to say for the first time they may well be better without us.

Brexit could probably have been completely avoided if Brexiteers believed it was actually beneficial to the EU ....

Yeah, but then we get UKIP on steroids vs Venezuela-on-Thames instead. Hurrah.

Christopher Hope @christopherhope
Brexiteers are furious about the decision to hold the 'no confidence' vote today. They had been led to believe it was Monday so they could prepare. One tells me: "It is an absolute outrage. Whether we end up with a change of leader we will end up with a change in 22 chairman."

Hahahahahahahahaha. Oh my.

MPs vote to send Article 50 letter, and then are surprised when UK faces automatic ejection from EU, deal or no deal.

MPs send letters for no confidence, and then are surprised that there is no confidence vote.

Not a clever lot, really.

Beth Rigby @bethrigby
Cabinet source also tells me that No 10 would think a vote of 165 in support would be good number (that’s what she got in the 1st leadership round). Sort of suggests though that well over 100 MPs might vote against. Source: “a win’s a win”

Niche fact - Andrew Griffiths has had the tory whip restored which means PM needs 159 to stay on

Georgia Roberts
‏*@GeorgiaZemoreyR*
Convenient...Griffiths has been suspended since July for a series of inappropriate texts to women

This increases the number of Tories to 316 - new threshold for May to win is 159

DGRossetti · 12/12/2018 15:36

Anyone else suspecting that winning/not losing tonights vote will make Theresa May think she has super powers ? Maybe we can scrap Trident ...

Reading some twitter threads is a real eye opener (can’t link from my phone)
So it seems that

  • négociations didn’t work because .... of remainders that refuse to accept the result of the vote (I didn’t realise remainders had anything to do in the négociations??)
  • the EU will suffer more than the U.K.
  • the EU should protect its members first so should accept anything to avoid a hard border between RoI and NI
  • ‘youd better change the backstop otherwise we wil brexit’
  • you’d better show some flexibility now etc etc

And that’s just the first few posts....
Quite mind boggling I have to say....

RedToothBrush · 12/12/2018 15:41

Robert Peston@peston
Two suspended Tory MPs get whip back for tonight's big vote - Elphicke and Griffiths. They probably cancel each other out (Griffiths for her, Elphicke against)

OP posts:
EtVoilaBrexit · 12/12/2018 15:42

It doesn’t matter RTB, I’m sure the U.K. can do the same if not better anyway once it can finally do its know trade deals!

howabout · 12/12/2018 15:43

Kate Andrews saying just that to Tom Newton Dunn DGR - more or less.

Ian Dunt conveniently forgetting(?) the Revoke option. Maybe he likes chaos more than me.

QuentinWinters · 12/12/2018 15:43

That leadership thread is something else Confused
I'm so bored of it all now. Just grow up and admit we aren't organised enough to actually leave. Bunch of Muppets.

TatianaLarina · 12/12/2018 15:45

Not looking at 50 years of Tory Government and a proper Labour Leader in charge is a start.

We were never looking at 50 years of Tory government as they’re a dying breed. Lulz @ the idea of Corbyn as a ‘proper’ leader.

Was your personal strike v the Tories really worth this havoc? It would have been a lot easier to campaign for Labour surely.
