Who should be Labour leader?

Massively simplistic question I accept, but I was a huge fan of Corbyn in the beginning, I still am a fan of many of his policy views in general - ie socialism is good (told you this was simplistic ), but he's really got the whiff about him of a man out of his depth, in the wrong job, slowly dragging his party to demise

Given we may well have a general election in the next year or two, and we definitely will in the next 4 years, who would be a Labour leader that you could get behind?

I guess this question is directed at Labour voters and swing voters, probably not much at Tories who will never vote anything other than Tory

I don't have any strong contenders myself to start the list off with I'm afraid, but I promise I am a normal person and not some kind of bot / Labour party researcher.

I'm interested in seeing who more knowledgeable people might champion.

Keir Starmer? Maybe? They were my party but I left.

Keir Starmer. I get the feeling most of the front bench know that, know the party would unite behind him. But that he just needs more parliamentary and front line experience before he can take it on.

Plus, they do not want power just know. Torres have to fail and be seen to fail. No shoving shit not of their own making.

So my hope is:

Vote of no confidence.
New election.
No overall control but Tories biggest party by slender margin.
Corbyn stands down.
Starmer is elected leader. Provides effective opposition.
Vote of no confidence.
New election.

Where does Brexit fit into that time line?

My wishlist is (no idea about the order) :

Brexit gets called off by Tories who finally admit that it's all a ridiculous plan which can only fail.

Boris et al admit they've been putting personal glory / career ambitions above the good of the country but now is the time to fall on their swords. They'd get a lot of respect from some people for admitting this (including from me) but thankfully the scorn would be so much greater and they'd be consigned to the dustbin of history

UKIP spontaneously combust

During all this Labour change leader to an intelligent charismatic person who has decent common sense semi socialist views. Someone with the pros and public persona of eg Ruth Davidson / Nicole Sturgeon but without being a Tory / separatist (is that the right word for someone who wants Scotland to leave the UK? Apologies if not)

GE called and Labour win by a convincing margin, roll back lots of the damage of the last 10 years of austerity etc, and unicorns for everyone.

Everyone needs a dream right?

*Labour leader doesn't have to be female, but it would be nice if it was. That isn't the most important characteristic for me. However a charismatic and engaging public persona, whilst not very important from a policy making point of view, feels like essential for getting the votes. It's a lot to ask of one person really

Kier Starmer or David Milliband are the only ones I could ever bring myself to vote for.

I voted for Yvette in the 2015 leadership election because I agreed with her views and I have always thought that having a working mum as leader would be ideal for Labour.

I think Dan Jarvis could win an election for Labour. He's a respected ex-military man who would appeal to certain voters who float between Labour and UKIP. He wants to defend the NHS from an "ideological free market agenda" and is a member of the Labour Friends of Israel.

He's also a family man who chose not to stand for leadership in 2015 so he could put his family first (sadly, his first wife died in 2010). If he's ever able to stand, I think he could be just what Labour need.

Currently not in party membership after entire lifetime due to lack of leadership on Brexit :-(

Former Labour voter here, currently politically homeless while Labour is being feeble on Brexit, antisemitism and misogyny.

Personally, I’d like Yvette Cooper. Kier Starmer has a better chance of uniting the party, but I think Cooper may have better public appeal than Starmer. I’d also be delighted if David Milliband came back.

It would be disastrous if Corbyn got in. Labour wouldn't get in for decades if he had four years as PM.

And I've always voted Labour.

John Smith. I genuinely feel that British politics would look completely different had he lived.

Failing that, wouldn't it be nice if they could catch up with the Tories and field a woman?

I think having a woman just for the sake of it isn't good - Thatcher and May aren't great examples, in my opinion. I do think Yvette Cooper would be better than Corbyn, though. Mind you...

Having a woman for the sake of it isn't good. Making it to 2018 without ever having found a female leader implies they are having men for the sake of it.
