Who should be Labour leader?

Massively simplistic question I accept, but I was a huge fan of Corbyn in the beginning, I still am a fan of many of his policy views in general - ie socialism is good (told you this was simplistic Grin), but he's really got the whiff about him of a man out of his depth, in the wrong job, slowly dragging his party to demise

Given we may well have a general election in the next year or two, and we definitely will in the next 4 years, who would be a Labour leader that you could get behind?

I guess this question is directed at Labour voters and swing voters, probably not much at Tories who will never vote anything other than Tory

I don't have any strong contenders myself to start the list off with I'm afraid, but I promise I am a normal person and not some kind of bot / Labour party researcher.

I'm interested in seeing who more knowledgeable people might champion.

Posted in Brexit as I'm a very frustrated and unhappy remainder who is worried about the face that there is no decent opposition when one is desperately needed in the current situation

Most of my Labour friends have put their faith in Corbyn. A lot of people have really bought into him.

Haunted
Same here
And they go very quiet when I remind them that he has consistently voted against all things EU ever since he became an MP.
Corbyn wants a hard Brexit.
He called for A50 to be invoked the morning after the vote.

I'm a floating voter. I will never vote for Labour while Corbyn is leader. He's a misogynist.

HauntedPencil · 28/11/2018 19:17

It's not what was promised. He isn't listening to the membership and given them greater democracy. He certainly hasn't brought about a kinder gentler politics. He's lied.

I seriously can't fathom it. He's a disaster.

LovesLaboursLost · 28/11/2018 20:34

Are people honestly still blindly faithful though? I see a lot of discussion about Brexit and people talking about what party policy should be and whether Corbyn has it wrong. I think the conference vote on it proves that people have doubts.

HauntedPencil · 28/11/2018 21:04

I do think it's wearing off right now a little. Be interesting to see what happens again in a GE, when he does all his rallies.

KissingInTheRain · 28/11/2018 21:13

Nothing will shake his support within Labour. Nothing.

All grumbles and differences will be set aside come decision time.

It’s a cult.

RebeccaWrongDaily · 28/11/2018 22:48

i am a long time labour member - many of those who joined 'to support jeremy' have left, are reconsidering. In my own branch (and the local branches) what you will find is long term members, who've not been active for some time, bowling up and voting when it matters. I have no reason to think they won't continue to do the same.

I've not resigned - I will stick it out, and keep voting them down, until they get bored and buggar off. The next labour leader will be a woman. 100000000000000000000000000% (whether that's a female woman remains to be seen...)

bellinisurge · 29/11/2018 07:07

Won't vote Labour again while he is leader.

jasjas1973 · 29/11/2018 09:52

Then the Tories will win the next GE.

You'll be voting (or by default) for more UC, more tax cuts for the wealthy, more cuts to council services, higher CT, less money for the NHS (in real terms) less care for the elderly.....

Y.Cooper putting the spotlight on May in the Liaison Committee hearings on now (i lead an exciting life) making TM squirm lol!

Pls JC step down now, your out of your depth!

HauntedPencil · 29/11/2018 10:01

I'm watching that too.

I don't like this concept that we must vote Labour or we are failing people, if a party doesn't get the votes they expect they need to change. This lot just seem to blame the voting public and do nothing.

If anyone is keeping the Tories in it's them. But we'd see streams of social media loads blaming all the evil Tories centrists or red Tories or whatever we are all called now.

jasjas1973 · 29/11/2018 10:32

I think Labour have some great policies, e.g. life long learning, slightly higher taxation (on corporations and v high earners) but stil internationally low, higher levels of investment, rail nationalisation. reinstate nurse bursaries, more spending on Police, more funding for councils.
Of course they also want to stay in the SM and CU of the EU, so Norway +.

JC isn't the life and soul of Labour, he won't be there forever, he is close to 70.

KissingInTheRain · 29/11/2018 12:43

jasjas I agree with all of that (re Europe, only because we’ve been forced into this stupid position: we should still be full EU members). And give or take an item it’s the sort of programme that Tony Blair and Gordon Brown would have pursued.

The problems lie elsewhere.

poppyseed1663 · 29/11/2018 17:18

Yvette Cooper but she is top associated with Blair for her to receive party support. Chuka Umunna would also be excellent, in my opinion but he won't win Corbynistas or Brexiteers so I would say Kier Starmer would be a good contender.
