Heartfelt hanks and praise to those marching in Birmingham.

KennDodd · 30/09/2018 10:33

Is it a week long demo in Birmingham, or one large march/demo? Please report back how it goes and if and how big any counter demos are.

@Hasenstein

What is the three million rally? I assume it's someone about EU nationals?

One March today, kicking off at 12 with the rally straight afterwards. We've got decent weather for it which is nice!

KennDodd · 30/09/2018 11:45

In that case eventually the people rebelled, especially in Romania, and the system collapsed.

Let's hope that doesn't happen here ....

Peregrina · 30/09/2018 13:10

Romania was obviously a more extreme case, but think of East Germany - this was relatively peaceful. They had the advantage that those near the border could get W German TV so weren't so cut off as those further east. There is a real worry that the already insensitive handling of the NI issue could cause violence again.

WorriedMutha · 30/09/2018 14:02

Me and DH. Last time we also brought teenage daughter but it's half term and she's going on a trip.

lalalonglegs · 30/09/2018 14:16

I'm coming with husband and two of my children (third is away) PLUS a friend who has spent past two years sniggering at my hair-tearing about Brexit. He now thinks I may have a point Wink.

lonelyplanetmum · 01/10/2018 09:25

In addition to my NHS consultant friend and her lovely DH we have two other friends asked to come with us plus children. The medic two are left of centre politically. We will have to steer conversation carefully as the other couple who want to join us are both lifelong devoted Tories, who work in the City and are very worried at the signs they see.

borntobequiet · 01/10/2018 12:04

I will be there with various family members, prob joining at Green Park (where I met lonely - can it be 2 years ago now?). Can we have a Mumsnet secret sign don't have a suitable scarf?

borntobequiet · 01/10/2018 12:41

Have just thought. I will carry a red toothbrush prominently upon my person as a tribute to the sagacious Red, progenitor and curator of the wonderful Westminsterenders threads.

lonelyplanetmum · 01/10/2018 12:43

I'll message you Born.

Theworldisfullofgs · 01/10/2018 21:45

Yes me and kids. Hope enough people turn up to bring London to a standstill.

I’m on holiday unfortunately but wish you all well

PCPlumsTruncheon · 02/10/2018 01:21

I am in rehab for alcoholism at the moment. Rehab is now funded by Local Authorities rather than the NHS and it’s getting harder and harder and harder to get funding.
I met with my care manager last week and she told me that they will only fund rehab if it’s literally a matter of life or death. Which it was with me. I have spent 25 years working for the NHS and the stress of my job (CPN in a very deprived London borough) played a large part in pushing me over the line from heavy drinking to full blown alcoholism.
Every single person in here along with their family and friends will be there on the 20th.
We have started using art therapy sessions to make banners.
Bring it on!!
Also DH is Northern Irish and I am acutely aware of the implications of Brexit for his family who are dotted around both sides of the border 🍀

crivit · 02/10/2018 10:42

I think Sunday's March and Rally went pretty well. Maybe around 2000 on the march, looked pretty good walking round the centre of Brum. Good speakers too - a wide variety of standpoints from across the political spectrum (including Tories against Brexit), plus in limbo, remainer now, veterans for Europe, scientists for eu and others. And live music 😁

lazysummer · 02/10/2018 23:01

I can't march on 20th as I am in Europe with work. I will be sending my support from afar, and my children are marching on my behalf. I really hope it has a strong impact.

SoloD · 04/10/2018 11:33

YES, we can stop this insanity!!

Havabiscuit · 04/10/2018 18:39

I wish we hadn’t booked a holiday. Would really like to go.

Peregrina · 04/10/2018 21:52

I really hope that we get twice as many this time. It might have been 50,000 last time, or more. 100,00 or 200,00 would be good. May won't take any notice, but we will know we were opposed and stood up to be counted.

goldiehawn1 · 04/10/2018 21:56

No chance

KennDodd · 05/10/2018 08:11

I feel the same Peregrina i have children, I can't watch this shit and do nothing. I hope the young people in this country never forgive government for this. I was thinking about placards, I might get a big picture of Boris with 'Liar' underneath. I could have a picture of any of them really. That or a big picture of Putin with some slogan, maybe 'Only Brexit Winner' or 'Job Done'.
