After disaster after Salzberg and a very predictable humilation over the Chequers Deal which the ERG reject, moderate Brexiteers reject, Remainers reject and the EU reject....

May does a press conference...

...which is delayed by a power shortage inside No. 10.

And....

We have a ( continent) hamster. He's supposed to be DDs but he's mine. He's so handsome.

Anyway, what we need to do is make an elderly incontinent hamster 🐹 great again, as restoration of former greatness seems to be a common leave theme.

Hazardswan · 25/09/2018 11:33

Still up my tree but good to see people's vote and remain option being discussed. Jeremy Vine debated it in relation to Labour earlier on channel five there was a lot of resistance unfortunately. Don't quite get the idea that a ref would be undemocratic which a lot of the comments suggested.

(Paragraphs back - yay!)

Mumsnet responded on the med thread and their looking into it would be nice if they did a survey or something. So many people with chronic illness on here or parents of kids with disabilities/SEN i think it would be appropriate for mumsnet to get vocal if they can.

lonelyplanetmum · 25/09/2018 11:34

The Labour Party thinks the hamster may be saved by EU participation.

SusanWalker · 25/09/2018 11:48

Keir looked a bit surprised himself. Apparently that bit wasn't in the pre approved speech, he just added it in.

DGRossetti · 25/09/2018 11:48

the idea that a ref would be undemocratic

The fact that that statement is allowed to stand in any context shows how far down the rabbit hole we've gone.

And, yet, you know that you would be able to find some brain-dead cretin of a Brexiteer who'd happily give up their own right to vote, if it preserved "the will of the people" in aspic.

ShinyElena · 25/09/2018 11:57

My local BBC radio station interviewed Labour prtay members in Newcastle and they were saying we voted OUT! (Not my capitalisation). I cannot believe they could only find leavers in the whole of Newcastle.

BigChocFrenzy · 25/09/2018 12:16

That standing ovation ... 👏🏼 < keep hoping >

Mistigri · 25/09/2018 12:19

There are now British migrants all over my Facebook getting all teary-eyed over Keir.

Personally I am not getting my hopes up at all. Labour are doing too little, too late.

woman11017 · 25/09/2018 12:27

Yup, misti. Remember what happened to Mowlam too, after her conference ovation.

This gave me a laugh. The snorting kind.

Farage: I could deliver the government a ‘simple’ trade deal.
Nigel Farage has claimed that he could deliver a trade deal for the UK... but because the government will not talk to him he’s not prepared to write it.

www.independent.co.uk/voices/brexit-tory-labour-policy-hitler-appeasement-terrifying-parallels-a8553686.html

These are the terrifying parallels between Brexit and the appeasement of Hitler in the 1930s

Well at least someone is waking up. I’m not sure this will be enough though.

5Yearplan4000 · 25/09/2018 12:41

There will be no 2nd referendum, or election before brexit. This is just student union politics.

mostdays · 25/09/2018 12:44

I joined Labour to vote for JC to become leader, you know. At this point I wish to goodness KS would mount a leadership challenge.

ShinyElena · 25/09/2018 12:44

This is an article about the meeting that decided Labour's Brexit stance on Sunday. (Spoiler: they all missed the Bodyguard finale)

Lots of pro EU folks going to Birmingham too.
Should be interesting. Smile

@5year
It doesn't matter. There is no plan by anybody to actually get the UK back to where it was the day before the Vote in 2016. It can't, for so many reasons.
EVERYTHING is now downhill for years to come, maybe permanently.
The main damage was done by invoking A50.
Even just staying in, will take a couple of years to recover from the losses already caused, and EU companies with factories in the UK will do the minimum and leave as soon as they can.
The smartest thing to happen would be for a cross party 'we fucked up how do we make the best of it' group.
Trouble is they are still playing 'pissing up a wall' contests.

lonelyplanetmum · 25/09/2018 12:51

Hmmm the years of internecine Tory squabbling could equally be labelled student union politics if the consequences weren't so cataclysmic.

ChilliPowderMild · 25/09/2018 13:07

You have all moved on somewhat, but this may be of interest to earlier posters.
The M20 is becoming a smart motorway. Which of course means the hard shoulder is being strengthened to take running traffic which coincidentally also means it will be strong enough to take standing HGVs. Make of that what you will.
Ashford truck stop has recently been given clearance to go full steam ahead with creating an additional 350 capacity for trucks.
There is also a new junction 10A being constructed at great speed. What is interesting is that the rather lengthy slip road off the new junction joins the same road as the existing junction 10 just a few hundred yards along and is also within easy walking distance of the truck stop. Which gives a rather sizeable amount of Tarmac that could be cordoned off with no massive inconvenience. (Or could in theory become a customs check/hold point)
And the Manston controversy limps on with no decision on its future use....that's a lot of space there.

DGRossetti · 25/09/2018 13:08

I joined Labour to vote for JC to become leader, you know.

Hows that working out for you then ?

Mightybanhammer · 25/09/2018 13:35

I see the BBC's coverage of Starmer's speech on Brexit at the conference today doesn't even mention the standing ovation he received. And it's placed way down the website.

1tisILeClerc · 25/09/2018 13:39

Not sure Corbyn could lead a party to the pub, let alone organise a piss up in it.
I suppose Farage could get that far, except he has been banned (that's a plus then!)

DGRossetti · 25/09/2018 13:39

I see the BBC's coverage of Starmer's speech on Brexit at the conference today doesn't even mention the standing ovation he received. And it's placed way down the website.

The word "Brexit" doesn't appear at all.

DGRossetti · 25/09/2018 13:40

Nice try, whoever left the scorpion for the Tories ...
