I'm guessing surfer won't start another thread as the questions were getting a bit difficult on the last one. 😂

Thought this was worthy of discussion though

So it turns out those pesky EU immigrants actually contribute more than the average UK citizen.

Who knew 🤔

The same issue applies for the sifting committees, too many SI's in too short a time frame, with too little notice.

frumpety · 01/10/2018 21:02

The European Union (withdrawl) Act in question is too broad an act , usually SI's relate to a specific Act , but this allows far more power over far too many subjects, well at least it does for my liking.

frumpety · 01/10/2018 21:38

This is of course if we reach an agreement , if we don't and we crash out with a no deal , well the above concern would be trivial in comparison to what would happen under civil contingency legislation. Sad

surferjet · 02/10/2018 12:26

Has anyone seen the Mumsnet survey thingy?
People would rather talk abut sex & what’s on the telly than brexit.
This board doesn’t even make the top ten.
Not sure if I’m surprised or not. lol

jasjas1973 · 02/10/2018 12:46

In 2010, EU membership didn't figure in voters top 10 concerns and for most people, life hasn't changed in the slightest since 2016.

Until we leave and see what happens i expect this apathy to continue, its human nature.

1tisILeClerc · 02/10/2018 12:49

@surfer
Whether you are for or against Brexit, one thing is certain, that by the end of March next year SOMETHING quite serious will happen.
MN are doing a 'disservice' to keep it in a corner, especially as so many are suggesting it will affect women and children most.

surferjet · 02/10/2018 13:05

But FWR has its own section & that seems to be the main reason people come here.
Brexit doesn’t seem to be a concern to anyone - not according to that survey anyway.

1tisILeClerc · 02/10/2018 13:58

So, would you say that (women typically) don't know about the shock that will be Brexit, or that they don't care, or that they wouldn't expect to find such detailed discussion (Westminsterenders thread particularly)?
Pretending it will simply 'go away' is a mistake. If you are pregnant, SOMETHING has to happen eventually.

Spreadingcudweed · 02/10/2018 14:03

I think that's one of the worst aspects of this tragedy/slow car crash that is happening in front of our eyes: that very few people fully understand and appreciate the benefits of being in the EU until we have left and it's too late.

surferjet · 02/10/2018 14:14

I don’t think as many people as you think are worried about brexit no.
As I said, boards like sex ( & that doesn’t even come up in active convos ) telly addicts & Christmas get more hits than this board.

I’d certainly give up trying to preach to people - It would appear no ones listening.

1tisILeClerc · 02/10/2018 14:42

A discussion on biscuits is obviously far more important.

Peregrina · 02/10/2018 15:07

No people aren't worried, and whatever happens, but they are going to find unpleasant surprises are in store. Even if it's just the £ losing value, so everything costs more.

Bearbehind · 02/10/2018 15:25

I don’t think as many people as you think are worried about brexit no

I tend to agree but that doesn't make it right, in fact it's the whole problem.

There's such apathy about it because too many people think it was all done and dusted on 24th June 2016.

People will start to take notice when it affects them personally but it will be too late by then.

Peregrina · 02/10/2018 15:29

And they will whine that no one told them. We did, but it was dismissed as 'Project Fear'. Or the EU will be blamed for 'bullying us' when it applies rules (whisper quietly so as not to upset the Leavers) that the UK helped to write.

KennDodd · 02/10/2018 15:42

I don’t think as many people as you think are worried about brexit

I agree and I don't think as many people as you think would be bothered if Brexit was binned, regardless of how they voted.

surferjet · 02/10/2018 15:51

Or maybe they won’t whine at all. Maybe they’ll be quite happy. You know it’s time you stopped thinking Brexit is going to be a disaster for everyone, or that no one knows about brexit unless the 6 hardcore remainers of Mumsnet telll them.
Mumsnetters are more concerned about the erosion of women’s rights due to the whole self I.D thing & trans activists
Stop insulting them by assuming they’re ignorant of all things brexit - maybe they have bigger concerns.

Bearbehind · 02/10/2018 16:02

You know it’s time you stopped thinking Brexit is going to be a disaster for everyone

Maybe if anyone published anything showing anyone other than disaster capitalists will benefit from Brexit people would be more positive.

As it is, even those in favour of it are saying it's going to be difficult.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 02/10/2018 16:06

Like what? Food, medicine, jobs? Because brexit affects none of those things does it?...

bellinisurge · 02/10/2018 16:20

Bigger than Brexit would be what exactly?

surferjet · 02/10/2018 16:27

Why don’t you go over to FWR & ask them what concerns them most?

Theworldisfullofgs · 02/10/2018 16:31

It's odds on to be bad.

How bad depends on your point of view.

1tisILeClerc · 02/10/2018 17:11

If some of the things that are being mooted come to pass, particularly with a 'no deal' version of Brexit, women will have no rights, full stop.

frumpety · 02/10/2018 19:33

The thing is Surfer what will be effected by Brexit not happening in a reality of your daily life sort of way ? I am not talking about sovereignty, or you not trusting politicians ( if you ever did ?) I am talking about the mundane living stuff , if tomorrow morning you woke up and it was cancelled ?

jasjas1973 · 02/10/2018 19:59

I bet the folk of Ellesmere are bothered about Brexit.

frumpety · 02/10/2018 20:05

So to add to my post , no 'feelings' related malarkey , just the buying food , switching the lights on, thinking about Christmas ( other religious festivals are available ), filling the car up, work , paying the mortgage or rent , that's the sort of stuff I mean Smile
