Boris Johnson is clearing the decks for a leadership challenge.

I guess that means that the Brexit we get all depends on what George, Michael and Boris decide over lunch and how good Operation Yellowhammer is.

As I witter on endlessly on here, I'm a prepper. You don't need to go full blown prepper to deal with this.
Please think about getting a 3 day cushion of food in place- breakfast to bedtime.
No reason to think it will go anything other than a bit more expensive (and sulky) but we may have a (hopefully short) period when there isn't much stuff in the supermarkets.
Take back control, to coin a phrase.

And yes, I will happily come on here and say it's all brilliant, if it is.

Anybody pressing the 'remain' button and getting the calamity stopped would give hope. Whoever actually did it would get pretty big support from the EU.
There would be a massive question about how much industry will then stay in the UK (including the banking) as there has been an almost infinite breach of trust and it might mean that a whole raft of 'no wriggling out' clauses might need writing to prevent the UK backsliding.
Whether Theresa/Boris/Roland rat stay on longer than a few days after making the cancellation is in some way not important when seen from a distance as although Parliament etc will be disrupted, the Civil service 'inertia' would allow some steadying of the 'Titanic 2'.

DGRossetti · 11/09/2018 16:56

Please think about getting a 3 day cushion of food in place- breakfast to bedtime.

Plus water and a plan if the electric goes. If they shut down gas interruptibles, there could be 3-5 days linepack if it's not cold. (That'll disappear overnight if we have a cold snap).

Work out what you can power with batteries - bear in mind you may need a power bank for you mobile.

Be prepared to lose the freezer and fridge.

Keep an eye on medicines and dates.

Drinking water is critical - bearing in mind you'll need water for cleaning and cooking.

Make sure you can tackle a small fire, in case you have to.

All the while, it probably wouldn't do any harm to reflect that while some people may think this scaremongering, and others may think it amusing, it's actually a pretty good simulcram of what life is like for the cast majority of humans on planet Earth.

bellinisurge · 11/09/2018 16:58

@DGRossetti - you know I agree with you.
Just don't want to freak people out into inaction.

DGRossetti · 11/09/2018 17:01

Of course if we are looking at the Boris Bounce, it will have to be underscored by a referendum. That's the only way you can cancel THE WILL OF THE PEOPLE - with THE WILL OF THE SAME PEOPLE

It's at this point that we'll see just how bright Brexiteers really are. They swallowed that fucking bus. Will they swallow it if they see the other side says "But it's better to Remain, so we can really leave next time ?"

(Don't worry about any fine print locking us in. Again, we know Brexiteers are pretty casual about fine details).

BigChocFrenzy · 11/09/2018 17:02

I must admit, if there really is a no-deal Brexit, I'd want a 2 weeks supply of essentials.

However, the police chiefs were discussing contingencies for 3 months before and after Brexit
Even the small minority who could afford such stores might find storage a problem.

A better idea - for those who can, is to plan a long holiday abroad from say about mid-March
If all goes well, you've just had a few weeks great holiday / a few months sabbatical
If not, you'll have avoided the worst of any chaos.

More on that JLR warning:

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/business/news/jaguar-land-rover-jobs-risk-brexit-no-deal-ralf-speth-a8532876.html

Mr Speth [ JLR CEO] said the lack of clarity around Brexit means he does not know if his plants will be able to function on after 29 March 2019
and told Sky News:

"Just one part missing could mean stopping production at a cost of £60m a day.

That is a huge risk.
We depend on free, frictionless, seamless logistics."

Hazardswan · 11/09/2018 17:05

Stayed up last night working out a plan for DP's meds, its not perfect but it should keep him alive in the event of shortages if they start earlier than March. I'm not going all out on it yet, I need to read up some more and...I'm hoping there will be some sort of intervention or the conferences will change the mood something .

BigChocFrenzy · 11/09/2018 17:06

Hazard SadThanks

thecatfromjapan · 11/09/2018 17:07

I think it was the 3 months of civil unrest and supply chaos that tipped me over the edge, BigChoc.

No-one but the very privileged, who will be guarded by the very stretched police and army, can plan for 3 months.

It's not possible.

And it is not possible to conceive of anyone - other than the extremely privileged - who will get through this unscathed, whether personally, or family, or friends.

And when that realisation, finally, kicks in, the chaos will spiral down another notch.

I am past prepping for a week or so. I'm actually, really angry.

woman11017 · 11/09/2018 17:10

What does for a country in a situation like the one coming up isn't just food/heat shortages.

There are people literally starving and homeless right now. What happens to them?

Law and order shortages are what concerns me. Which will be promptly followed by human rights shortages.

Not good and the BBC is cheering on this ridiculous trolling pamphlet right now.

Could any of us help at all Hazard Flowers ?You posted way back about keeping him alive with love. I'm not a medic, but I've seen that happen. Smile Lucky DP to have you.

thecatfromjapan · 11/09/2018 17:11

❤️ Hazardswan

bellinisurge · 11/09/2018 17:12

@Hazardswan - I want to encourage anyone who doesn't have medical issues to contend with to look out for themselves as best they can and not clog up any emergency services with nonsense problems. I'm pretty hopeful that for all their poker faced attitude, the nhs will make contingencies for people who actually need it.
Dickheads who get a black eye in Morrisons because they were too blinkered to do a bit of stocking up at home and, instead, get into a fight over a loaf of bread should fuck off.

10degreestostarboard · 11/09/2018 17:16

Well ain’t this the thread of righteous indignation

Relax - we are another day closer to freedom. If your worried go ‘full prepper’ to take your mind off it. Collecting tinned food for a hobby ain’t just a science, it’s an art!

woman11017 · 11/09/2018 17:17

If it was just me, I would have left 2 years ago. We have exams next June, but
I suspect that exams aren't going to happen next summer though.
Angry

bellinisurge · 11/09/2018 17:17

Sweetie, I've told people not to bother going full prepper if it isn't for them. No reason not to get stuff in though, just in case. I hope that Brexiteers , aka Quitlings, are also doing it for all their bluster.

thecatfromjapan · 11/09/2018 17:19

Same here, woman.

I too am wondering how exams are going to go ahead in the summer.

10degreestostarboard · 11/09/2018 17:20

Farage should be knighted. Ditto Boris if he sticks it to the bloody eu

PineappleSunrise · 11/09/2018 17:22

This is all starting to sound like the Grasshopper and the Ant.

bellinisurge · 11/09/2018 17:22

I think we should give them both peerages so they can see what an unelected body is really like.

10degreestostarboard · 11/09/2018 17:25

Unelected body? Sounds like the executive arm of the eu...

Johnson IS the one person who could reverse Brexit. Few would think less of him for it either. (That's the good think about having his reputation).

I did a People’s Voice event at the weekend (when I wasn't drunk/hungover). It was very interesting. Had some cracking chats with leavers. A large number of issues that people talk about are NOT EU issues at all. They relate to local government and break down of community and austerity in general. There ARE ways therefore for a leaver to sell staying in the EU. Think £350million reasons or regional investment.

The other thing that was interesting was the referendum campaigning got abuse at the same location in 2016. The People's Vote campaigning didn't - rather it was more people wanting to engage - if only to say why they still wanted to leave, but that in itself lead to conversations where common ground was found rather than this polarised shit. From there you got a sense of the need for a national debate on where we want the country to head - without Brexit in the equation at all! No one is happy with the last two years and how Brexit has been handled. From any politician or party. Indeed the dissatisfaction with ALL parties was a striking feature.

I personally am not really a supporter of a people's vote ultimately, but I do see the value in campaigning for one as a way to open up these kind of debates again. (I don't think the campaign will go anywhere).

I do see from doing it, that Johnson DOES have opinions...
