Have your frienships and family relationships suffered as a result of Brexit?

Just that, really. If friends and/ or family members have clearly voted differently to you, has it changed the way you see them or interact with them? Have friendships broken down?

I haven't been able to vote, but the outcome of the vote affects me disproportionately. Family members have voted Leave. There have been arguments, also between friends, some ended in loss of contact.

I wonder how the Brexit vote has affected others on here?

i knew it would be a shit storm. Yes, I hate the EU THAT much

I'm sorry to be that person but I really love my DP!

I'm a full time carer to my DP who takes 20+ medications a day. The goverment has 'made plans', so to speak, that pharmacy companies should stockpile 6wks worth of 200 life saving medications, if they fail to do so there is no way for us, the public, to hold them to account.

Without ALL his meds my DP suffers to the point he wishes he was dead. Really. Its horrible and like being stabbed in the chest.
Without meds one cold, one flu, one virus, one infection could kill him...But to be fair that's true but to a lesser extent on them.

I don't hate anyone or anything enough to wish them suffering or death.

I don't think leave voters mean for this scenario.

And before anyone pounces on me I know we're not the only facing this and there are THOUSANDS of people in this country in a similar situation.

I do not expect you to change your mind about leaving the EU but I think all voters should be making damn sure that there is absolutely not one delay, hiccup, whatever in ALL medications and NHS services.

I know people hate the EU and y'know that's fine and we can leave but don't make good people like my DP suffer.

.

Oh and before any smartass says "they won't let anything that bad happen" don't make me laugh! This government is making people suffer daily in cost saving exercises, cuts to benefits, rise in foodbanks and not giving people access to the meds they need due to them being 'not cost effective'.

PickleRick I don't think people actually see their own family and friends belonging to those "other" forriner groups. It's as if the others/forriners aren't really people, just a group, an entity, to blame. I know people in real life who, when confronted about what they are sharing on FB, will say that they aren't talking about their friends/family 'cause they know them and know that they aren't like the forriners/others.

And the lowest paid will see a rise in their income. Rightly so. We already have some of the lowest food prices in Europe. This will help rural communities

How the hell does anyone come to that conclusion? rises in wages need to be paid for, through higher prices, effecting the poorest first.

As for lowest food prices in Europe? BS !!! i go over there on a regular basis and though certain things are more expensive, overall i shop for about 15% less than an equivalent basket here, they nick name the UK the "Golden Island" for a reason.

Lovetosinglalala123 yes that’s completely true. Apparently my DP is an “alright one”. My mum has even told a lot of people that the kids surnames are my name so that she doesn’t have to reveal a rather obvious Muslim name. My DP is an atheist, not that they’d bother to enquire.

They say a lot of “send them home” type comments but if you question them as to where exactly second generation immigrants call home, they bluster and go red and start saying things like “I suppose you want Tony Blair back then?” They make no sense at all.

Lovetosinglalala123 · 27/08/2018 20:44

A good friend of mine, the day following the referendum, when a group of us were discussing the result, and the problems we foresaw (Christ, I wish we were only heading towards those problems now, so much more has been revealed since then), her only input to the conversation was "I think we need to go back to being a Christian country." ?????? She is a Christian and will tell you that her faith is very important to her, but she's one of these who only go to church a couple of times a year. When I pointed out that from what I've seen and read (we come from an area of very low immigration) Muslims seem on the whole to be far more observant of their faith than most Christians. She had no answer to this.

After a recent trip to London, she came back and she said that she had seen hardly any British people there. When I asked her to clarify this, she meant white people. So, according to her logic, if you don't have white skin you can't be British.

She's a very good friend and is always there when I need her. I don't want to fall out with her, but it's bloody difficult!

Mrsr8 ironically, her office is above an Indian restaurant (staffed entirely by men with (shock! horror!) brown skin. But they're ok because she knows them Hmm

I don't know whether to scream racist at her or laugh!

@Lovetosinglalala123 - she's not much of a Christian if she only goes to church a couple of times a year. Let me guess, Christmas and Easter.

Mrsr8 - all these forriners are coming through Europe. By breaking ties with Europe, we'll get fewer brown skinned forriners. Oh, wait...

bellini I don't think she's much of a Christian anyway with her intolerant attitude, regardless of if she goes to church regularly or not.

I always think that of Theresa May judging by the way she behaves and votes.

Fake Christians. It pisses me off more than anything when people claim to be Christian then have bigoted views. You should tell your friend Jesus likely had brown skin and see what her response it Grin

Lovetosinglalala123 · 27/08/2018 21:39

sonic I haven't tried that. Could be interesting, especially since he wasn't a Christian either Grin

Sar51 · 27/08/2018 21:39

All Teresa May cares about is being seen to make Brexit happen - regardless of the consequences. She is weak and feeble and not fit to lead the country and I say that as a Conservative voter. Unfortunately in my opinion we don’t have a strong enough opposition party in power to shake things up. She would never back down on Brexit now because there could be anarchy on the streets if she did. It really is like we are living in a nightmare situation. I only wish we could wake up from it.

There wont be anarchy on the streets if she backs down in October , too cold and miserable , all the leave voters I know are in no way shape or form going to take to any streets , except for a spot of Christmas shopping or to walk the dog.
It would be highly amusing if an authoritarian leaning leave voter took to the streets to riot , now there would be some really confusing comments in the DM Grin
