Do you think street parties, riots, candlelit vigils, what?

pesty
But Article 50 has been invoked

so unless a deal with the EU is secured between now and March,
come the 29th there will be no planes, no ferries, no trains in and out of the UK and a few other little niggles

keyboardkate · 21/08/2018 19:24

There will a Withdrawal Agreement suitable to both sides in the negotiations. It is a common thing for negotiations to go right down to the wire.

A No Deal Brexit is treason IMV.

So I see a BINO or near enough anyway. Otherwise why are negotiations ongoing with EU if it isn't to be able to tap into that market.

You heard it here first BINO for Brexit!

I was worried, but not anymore. I think the penny has dropped with a lot of the fanatics and it will work out ok. But not Brexit for the rabid Brexiteers either. Somewhere in the middle.

But remember UK cannot get a deal that is better for them than for the remaining members.

Such a waste of time and money really.

bellinisurge · 21/08/2018 19:26

We had a sweet deal. As a semidetached member of the EU. Not without its downsides as all deals have. But sweeter than pretty much any other member. Fucking loons voted it down the toilet.
I've stopped being polite about BeLeavers.

I hope you are right - but I see no evidence of insight or planning from the UK team.
The level of humble pie needed by the UK team will be extraordinary.

keyboardkate · 21/08/2018 19:33

@Ta1kinpeace

I'm of the opinion that the Civil Servants on both sides have been sweating over the Summer to get things sorted. They know the score.

While TM is hiking up and then down the hills again!

There is much going on behind the scenes. We are not told about it, because Government do not have much respect for their Civil Servants really. But I bet there is a Sir Humphrey or two over there in Brussels trying to save our land from disaster.

Well if I am proven wrong, I can at least say I have some optimism and faith in the Non Governmental negotiators.

A hard Brexit is unfathomable. Everyone, but everyone knows it. So it has to be fixed, and hopefully will be.

bellinisurge · 21/08/2018 19:35

@keyboardkate - your faith is rather naive. Charming, but naive. Forgive me if I don't share it.

Ta1kinpeace · 21/08/2018 19:36

Ah yes, the EU unelected bureaucrats are going to work with the UK unelected bureacrats
to save us from the elected UK muppets Grin

Jayfee · 21/08/2018 19:40

Have any of you signed the online petition change.org/finalsay?

keyboardkate · 21/08/2018 19:41

Thank you for all your kind words. But believe me the Civil Servants on both sides want a good deal for all.

The Government is not doing anything, well that's the optics anyway, but DEXIT or whatever it's called are running around like ferrets trying to sort this out.

Whether it will work or not is anyone's guess, but it seems to me to be a lot more level headed and workman/woman like than the absolute shambles going on in Parliament!

I think Government is saying this and that for the optics, but the workhorses are doing the donkey work in the background.

Be positive folks! Neither Remain nor Brexit is going to get everything they want, but anything other than a deal (as I said before) is Treason to me.

We shall see.

Rosstac · 21/08/2018 19:42

prettybird I don’t regret my vote, I was asked a question and gave a honest answer, it’s now up to others how it pans out, I have no control what happened or happens after the vote

bellinisurge · 21/08/2018 19:44

@Rosstac - not really taking back control there, are you? Have a flounce and then leave it to the grown ups to sort out. And blame them if it doesn't.

Ta1kinpeace · 21/08/2018 19:44

Rosstac
What positives for you personally do you hope / expect to see from Brexit?

ThinksTwice · 21/08/2018 19:45

I think the world will explode! 🌍

PestymcPestFace · 21/08/2018 19:49

Ta1kinpeace In theory Article 50 could be withdrawn www.europarl.europa.eu/RegData/etudes/BRIE/2016/577971/EPRS_BRI(2016)577971_EN.pdf

I do hope many people have decided to find out how the EU works. Most people don't even know that they have more than one MEP.

In theory Article 50 could be withdrawn
Indeed. I'm well aware of that.
But as the Tory leadership are petrified of Rees Mogg and his cronies
and Corbyn has always been anti EU
that is not very likely to happen
is it

keyboardkate · 21/08/2018 19:58

Pesty,

FPTP has many voters for EU Parliament bewildered.

More than one rep in my EU consistuency, what fresh hell is this! The fact that some are not aware of the voting system for the EU Parliament says it all for me.

prettybird · 21/08/2018 19:59

If that's the case Rosstac - then you should take responsibility for the consequence of the vote to leave (if they come to pass as Remainers and some Leavers believe) and not make blithe comments that the Government wouldn't have given us that option if it was going to be that bad Confused. You voted for it. Own it. You can't abdicate responsibility. You are one of the 17.1 million people who created this situation.

It's not the EU's fault. It is merely applying the rules of its own organisation.

If the UK wants to be a 3rd country, then it - and its people, especially those that voted for it - has to accept the consequences. Prepare for No Deal or be realistic about what sort of deal it can get. Unfortunately, the latter seems increasingly unlikely. Sad

CherryPavlova · 21/08/2018 20:00

Rosstac - No I don’t think it will happen in one day as I know it’s started already. A few of the many companies with Brexit related job losses thus far.. I could do list four times as long. Sadly the government still spouts the message that unemployment is falling but that’s because they count zero hours contracts as employment.

Ta1kin the other 27 countries would also have to approve of us deciding to stay and that seems even less likely than our main parties sorting their acts out.

Ta1kinpeace · 21/08/2018 20:03

pesty
the other 27 countries would also have to approve of us deciding to stay
Nope
According to the English chap who wrote Article 50, the UK parliament can reverse it at any time up till five minutes before it takes effect.
Only after that do the other 27 have to ratify the UK's accession (because the UK is still a member until that moment)

IdahoJones · 21/08/2018 20:04

Be positive folks!

If I might be frank, I do find exhortations like this on MN a bit patronising and tiresome.

Yaralie · 21/08/2018 20:06

Positive about what IdahoJones?????

PestymcPestFace · 21/08/2018 20:07

Yes Kate FPTP has led to a bipartite country. None of our politicians have learnt to negotiate. Proportional representation needs to be introduced.
