Its all going so badly and everyone is worried, but what can be done?

Do we want another referendum and the whole Brexit thing aborted? Do we want another leader doing something different? Do we think Teresa May is doing everything that can be done?

I say "do we think" but to be honest, I don't think anything either way of Teresa May, I don't know what to think.

I don't know what could make things better at this stage

I wish I could ride above wishing consequences on those who voted Leave, but I just can't. I really hope that it fails spectacularly for at least a decade. That is just mad.

TheMonkeyMummy · 02/08/2018 21:21

www.change.org/p/theresa-may-mp-give-people-a-final-say-on-brexit-deal

I think this is important for both sides

TheMonkeyMummy · 02/08/2018 21:23

@derxa The whole
Situation is mad.

LoveInTokyo · 02/08/2018 21:26

Not fucking invited!

@LoveInTokyo Grin

PrincessMargaret · 02/08/2018 21:54

The whole thing is fecking stupid and will cause far more problems than any one believes it will solve. Nd the people in charge are either mind blowingly incompetent, or playing a very long game where they cancel it all at the minute and blame the EU for it not being possible. Not their fault any of it, on no.

I am LOVING this video

ShackUp · 03/08/2018 04:00

There is a lot of fucking back-pedalling from Leave voters.

Your cheerleader was Nigel Farage, an inveterate racist who will rise like a floating turd while the rest of us sink after Brexit. Own this fact: you agreed with him, he convinced you. If this statement is untrue, why did you wish to be on his side? You supported a borderline illegal campaign replete with out-and-out lies, probably funded by Putin, with a view to destabilising Europe.

I will NOT be told by Leave voters that ANY of this is my fault. I voted Remain, and this whole fuck-up is nothing to do with me or my vote. At least have the decency to take responsibility for what now looks to be an unavoidable disaster.

Helmetbymidnight · 03/08/2018 08:36

Oh if you think there’s back- pedalling now.

No one will have voted for Brexit by next year!

It’s interesting to read the old threads on here on the ref. The idea that the economy will be screwed for 50 yes (Jacob reees mogg) was not being touted. Turkeys imminent membership was. Interesting to see so many ardent leavers. Where are they all now?

falcon5 · 03/08/2018 11:57

But... do you not want people to back pedal now ? Or maybe put it another way ... would you rather be "right" or would you rather try and get people saying (in large enough numbers for it to change political goals) you know what, I change my mind, I made terrible decision. Because if you consider it to be possible that there were a bunch of leavers who voted, not because of Farage and immigration, but because of TTIP worries, knee jerk dislike of large organizations, protest votes, didn't know what to do so did what their brother said, flipped a coin, never thought it would happen etc etc whatever reasoning they had on that day then dont you want them to start saying stop the bus? Or do you really believe the people who come on and say 17.4 million leave voters clearly voted to exit SM CU stop freedom of movement etc.?

KennDodd · 03/08/2018 13:41

Are any of the loud Brexiteers still saying leaving the EU will be good for the economy or have they all now abandoned that?

I have noticed JRM has moved the goalposts and is now saying we might have to wait 50 years before we can judge if Brexit was a success or not.

TheElementsSong · 03/08/2018 15:01

do you not want people to back pedal now?

That depends. Are they back-pedalling meaning they would change their vote? Or are they back-pedalling meaning that they cleave even more strongly to their original vote, but attempt to re-write the history of what they wanted to occur?

falcon5 · 03/08/2018 15:02

I took it as meaning that they said I change my mind, I made a bad decision (And think we should remain and would vote that way now)

AuditBird · 03/08/2018 21:01

We absolutely should remain. The only people advocating leave are multi millioaires. They do not have our best interests are heart.

They will strip away our employee rights in a heartbeat. I've no idea why anyone who is working class would side with Farage or Rees-Mogg. Unless they are delusional and think that either of those dicks speaks for them. Unless they are bit racist of course. You know, brown people having rights.

I actually fucking despair. How low we have sunk to let these utter twats take control.

Lottapianos · 03/08/2018 21:07

'I actually fucking despair. How low we have sunk to let these utter twats take control.'

Grim times Audit, grim times. The pendulum has swung uncomfortably far this time. I agree that Remain is the only sensible option. It horrifies and terrifies me that No Deal is being spoken about as a legitimate option for a second referendum

Ta1kinpeace · 03/08/2018 21:22

Auditbird
Ah, so you've never met rooms full of blue collar Tories then
they are an interesting breed
pretty rare on MN
prevalent in Brexit circles

Ihatemycar · 03/08/2018 23:53

I can't wait to leave the EU. I'm tired of all the remoaners. 17.4 million people voted.

I believe in Brexit today as I did when I voted out.
I am sooooo looking forward to have success and happiness away from the EU.
I really don't get the adoration. I never will.

If you wanted to stay you should have rallied the troops a vote to stay.

I'll never regret to LEAVE. Can't wait.

Jason118 · 04/08/2018 00:27

Where are you moving to?

ragged · 04/08/2018 04:26

Formally leaving the EU won't stop people 'remoaning'. We'll just have A LOT more to moan about after 29.3.19!!

The only way to prevent this Forever-Saga was an overwhelming Remain result in 2016. That part I agree on.

ShackUp · 04/08/2018 07:13

'If you'd wanted to stay you should have rallied the troops'.

Nope! No. Not our responsibility. You can't 'bring a mate who thinks the same as you' to the polling station. And you can't undo years of trolling by right wing idealogues.

And neither will it be our responsibility when the country goes tits up.

ShackUp · 04/08/2018 07:22

'I've never understood the love for this democratic organisation that has kept Europe safe and prosperous for half a century. Why would anyone want to be part of that shitshow? I'd rather go it alone because of some mistaken belief that we still rule the empire and can EASILY make bilateral trade agreements, piece of piss, everyone wants a bit of us when we're on our own'.

JRM is pissing himself laughing and rubbing his hands in glee. His investments are golden and the poor will be chewing on gin -soaked rags in gutters just like 1870.

Ihatemycar · 04/08/2018 09:41

@ShackUp why do you think so many people voted out? It's not a coincidence.
Probably 90% of my friends and family voted out.
Mix group of individuals. We did rally the troops and voted.
Brexit isn't a mistake. The way it has been conducted is.
I don't think the government had any idea that the majority was going to vote out.
They had no plan. That was a huge gamble and a mistake.
I believe we are going to be successful as a global player.

Ihatemycar · 04/08/2018 09:47

@ShackUp the EU didn't keep us safe or prosperous. We paid not so long ago the billions in debt that we had after the war.
Do you think Europe cared about how impoverish we were after we liberated them?
Do you think the older generation ever forgot the horrors of war curtesy of our friends in Europe.
They only care for our money as the second net contributor.
I'm not saying it's all bad to be part of the EU but they can't accept change. They haven't moved on with the times.

Moussemoose · 04/08/2018 09:56

Ihatemycar without wanting to dismiss what the U.K. suffered during WW2 I think most people realise many Europeans suffered significantly more.

Rationing ensures no one starved, the generation that formed and were most committed to the EU in Europe had actually suffered starvation.

The U.K. was bankrupt and the end of WW2 but so was the rest of Europe.

The EU has absolutely contributed to keeping us safe. Since 1945 this is the longest period of peace in the history of Western Europe.

PestymcPestFace · 04/08/2018 10:12

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dutch_famine_of_1944%E2%80%9345 yeah, the Dutch had it so easy.

Who has not moved on with the times Ihatemycar ? People over 80, 'the EU', 'Europe' or just you?
