To be scared by our apathy?

Threads on here discussing how best to stockpile food, the government telling us not to panic but at the same time making the kind of plans we shouldn’t see in peace time.

All of this is self inflicted. Largely down to our politicians worrying more about their parties than the rest of us. Austerity making us feel poorer and running down our services. Now the scary reality of next March is getting closer by the minute.

Countries have managed to royally fuck themselves before up by blindly believing the government will sort it out before. Ask yourself do you really believe that all those 650 MPs in parliament are either competent or working in your best interests?

but... its not too late

Many believe it’s a done deal with no turning back. But it can be stopped. Here’s the proof.

Speaking on the BBC Radio Today programme this morning, French Europe Minister Nathalie Loiseau confirmed that the door “remains open" to the UK, and that we could stay in the EU “on the same terms”.

Commenting, Lord (John) Kerr, the architect of Article 50 and a leading supporter of the People’s Vote campaign, said:
“It’s up to us. There would be no price – political or financial – to pay if we took back the Article 50 letter, as the French Europe Minister today confirmed we can.
“The people should have the right to choose. They deserve their vote, once the present negotiation with the EU ends.”

We all need to making our thoughts and voices heard on this. Please dont’t leave it to others - its all our futures and those of our kids.

So write to your MP, sign the facebook petition and take back control!

What democracy is this? If one side breaks the rules surely the vote should be rerun? A vote is only rerun if the result would have been different had the error not been made.

I was more worried about the 9 million pounds not declared by the remain campaign to send a leaflet to every house in the country (where was the investigation in to that?). Also the interference of foreign leaders/politicians to boost project fear should be investigated!

frumpety · 26/07/2018 12:37

fangirl can you explain why the government is asking businesses to stockpile or ensure adequate supplies ( which sounds less dramallama but is the same thing ) ?

PineappleSunrise · 26/07/2018 12:40

Oh fangirl, the Remain campaign didn't break the law. Why are you trying to make the two campaigns equivalent? Do you think you're fooling people?

By the way, who were the foreign leader who were boosting project reality? Can you give some examples? (Or is this another example of that well known far right tactic where you accuse others of doing what your side is doing before you get caught doing it? See also: Steve Bannon and 'fake news.')

GhostofFrankGrimes · 26/07/2018 12:40

Don’t like the thread? Hide it. Do not attempt to shut down debate when you’ve previously been arguing for democracy and freedom.

NewGrandad · 26/07/2018 12:44

A vote is only rerun if the result would have been different had the error not been made.

An error is a mistake. This was a deliberate attempt to affect the vote. not an error.

Walkingdeadfangirl · 26/07/2018 12:45

Its either
a) sensible planning to ensure there is no disruption or
b) trying to fuel fear so people will accept TM's compromise for a soft Brexit plan.

CardinalSin · 26/07/2018 12:50

It's quite enlightening how many BrexitBots there still are coming on to these threads trying to stifle debate and trying to persuade people not to look at the genuine issues.

Look, a squirrel...

InfiniteSheldon · 26/07/2018 12:50

No one is attempting to shut down debate just asking for it to staying the Brexit section as per MN rules

YeTalkShiteHen · 26/07/2018 12:51

TM has been talking about stockpiling medication too. That’s worrying. The implication (not denied) that the NHS will possibly be unable to provide necessary medication post Brexit.

I’m sure someone will come along with a sneery tone and insults, but the fact is that the PM is suggesting stockpiling of food and medication, hardly the actions of someone who thinks it’s all going to be fine.

CardinalSin · 26/07/2018 12:52

I.e. stifling it, because they don't want people to think seriously about the issues. If it's safely hidden away they don't need to worry their little heads about anything more than "I'm a squirrel, Ask Me Anything"...

Walkingdeadfangirl · 26/07/2018 12:52

Oh please the electoral commission was clearly not impartial, they were motivated by a political agenda rather than uncovering the facts.

NewGrandad · 26/07/2018 12:52

@YeTalkShiteHen Great handle

NewGrandad · 26/07/2018 12:54

Oh please the electoral commission was clearly not impartial

And you have proof?

delphguelph · 26/07/2018 12:55

People just don't give enough of a shit.

frumpety · 26/07/2018 12:55

Thanks fangirl .

a) why would there be any disruption ? how long would it last ?

b) People have to accept whatever Brexit deal the government eventually ends up with. Nobody has any control over that, is that right ?

scaryteacher · 26/07/2018 12:59

Speaking on the BBC Radio Today programme this morning, French Europe Minister Nathalie Loiseau confirmed that the door “remains open" to the UK, and that we could stay in the EU “on the same terms”.

Does she speak with the direct authority of the 27 and the Commission? Thought not.

We would forego the rebate, have to join the Euro and probably Schengen as well. I voted out; I didn't vote to be tied to the EU in perpetuity by the PM and Mr Robbins.

ReevaDiva · 26/07/2018 13:01

I'm Scottish. We're overwhelmingly Remain, and the SNP is the majority party.

Who can I write to? Nobody. We've done all we can and we're still utterly fucking fucked.

Someone needs to call a second IndyRef, today if not yesterday. We need to escape this massive shower of venal immoral cunts.

callmeadoctor · 26/07/2018 13:01

Reported thread (yawn)

ImAIdoot · 26/07/2018 13:02

Threads on here discussing how best to stockpile food, the government telling us not to panic but at the same time making the kind of plans we shouldn’t see in peace time.

The worst part is most of it can't be prepared for. How will the government shield the populace from the power going off completely, planes dropping from the sky, human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together and the formation of several new active volcanoes throughout Britain.

Answer: they can't. The only solution is to discuss this matter with people who really understand so you can be best prepared. For instance in the Brexit section.

Snickerdoodles · 26/07/2018 13:03

The editor of the Independent has started a petition to ask the government to give people a final say on the Brexit deal.

There’s a link here if you’re interested:

YeTalkShiteHen · 26/07/2018 13:03

@NewGrandad I only signed up again today and I’ve got a Mhairi Black coffee mug so it was my inspiration Grin

CardinalSin · 26/07/2018 13:03

We would forego the rebate, have to join the Euro and probably Schengen as well.

And I suppose you've spoken to the heads of the other 27 governments and know this for a fact...

ConstantlyCold · 26/07/2018 13:04

Biscuit x1000
give it a rest please

Thanks for the Biscuit dreary I’ll add it to my stockpile.

Thanks for the thread op you are right the apathy is scary

Keeptrudging · 26/07/2018 13:04

Yes, a referendum was held, 'will of the people' and all that. Had it not been based on a pack of lies/illegal and shady funding I'd be upset but would take it on the chin.

There was also a Scottish referendum, also based on the lie that if you voted for independence, Scotland would be out of the EU and face dire consequences. People out with Scotland might not be aware of the level of threats made, since we get different editions of newspapers/news. I think many people in both referendums would vote differently 2nd time around. Support for Scottish Independence is currently at a higher level than it was pre the last referendum (which was a very close result), I'd imagine it would be the same if Brexit was rerun, now there is more information available/reality is biting.

YeTalkShiteHen · 26/07/2018 13:05

And I suppose you've spoken to the heads of the other 27 governments and know this for a fact...

Exactly, this comment absolutely sums up the problem. There are NO facts, literally not one person has the faintest fucking idea what will happen, nobody ever did.

Let’s not forget that no politicians actually expected the result that happened, and hadn’t planned for it.
