Westministenders: May's Turd Way covered in Donald's Glittery Tickertape from his Parade

Where next?

Auditions for chief turd polisher to Mrs May are in full action, whilst those who don't believe in the turd, wade about knee deep in their own shit, still searching for that illusive plan for Brexit which doesn't stink to high heaven of crap.

After the dual resignation of Davis and Johnson, amongst the stench there is an air of uncertainity and expectation of all hell breaking loose.

In the last 48 hours we have been told that

  1. May is more secure having crushed the brexiteers,
  2. May about to be ousted by a no confidence vote, triggering a leadership election,
  3. The Tory Party are about to split,
  4. Brexiteers are in disarray fighting amongst themselves,
  5. We will remain in the EU,
  6. We get an EEA deal,
  7. We will get no deal,
  8. A People's vote is inevitable and
  9. There will be a General Election.

Which only serves to merely highlight just how little of a clue ANYONE has about what happens next.

What bothers me now, is that Johnson seems not to have surfaced yet and there are rumours that Gove has gone to ground, whilst Donald Trump is practically on the plane and is stirring the pot praising Johnson.

Instead we seem to have a series of junior ministers and Tory HQ figures quitting in a long drawn out coordinated toy throwing out of the pram exercise, to try and get what hard brexiteers want.

If I had to hazard a guess at the general silence from key figures, I might be tempted to say that someone is going to use Trump's visit to throw a political grenade and actively invite him to endorse them.

That might sound ridiculous given that the public hates Trump, but that loses sight of the fact that the people who will vote for the next leader of the Tory Party are overwhelming authoritarian leaning and likely to be those who like Trump and would be impressed by such a move.

I note this tweet today from the wise Sarah Kendzior:

Sarah Kendzior @sarahkendzior
"There are parallels to past authoritarianism, but what's happening with Trump, in the digital age, is new and transnational. The president's loyalty is not necessarily to a state but to foreign leaders and multinational criminal alliances. The state is just something to sell."

It is clear that others in the parliamentary party will be very alarmed at the prospect. There were Tory MPs who were openly tweeted how please that disgusting Johnson had gone and are no fans of Trump.

May still seems to think that she can get her plan through and approved by the EU in its current form. The White Paper is due on Thursday.

Much speculation is that it will be significant if she fails to produce this on time, as she will have capitulated to the Brexiteers. And this will lead to the EU just giving up on us anyway.

She also announced to the Cabinet today, that preparations for No Deal were to be stepped up significantly.

We still are left wondering who, she is stitching up; the Brexiteers whose heads are currently exploding or the friends she keeps closest to her (friends? or ideological enemies).

The problem is that there just no other viable way forward at the moment, as the country is divided, both Labour and the Conservatives are divided and are more interested in their own future than that of the party and there are far too many ambitious 'celebrity MPs' who want to make their mark. No one gives a shit about ordinary workers or business. Plus there is the divine observation that DGRossetti made at the end of the last thread: The biggest obstacle to Brexit has been Brexiteers

The grab for post-Brexit power shows the whole of Westminister up as the cess pit of self interest it is, with Boris Johnson merely its biggest figure head.

Wait until the GFA officially has its head put on the chopping block awaiting its fate. Perhaps we can flog NI to Donald and get a Brexit Dividend afterall.

I must admit to finding it hard to have a view that is altogether different to this:
James Patrick @J_amesp
There is no way back from all of this. The next seven days simply decide how badly - on a scale of fucked to smouldering crater - it is going to end.

One final predictation, which I am DAMN certain of: Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday are all going to be grim for political watching if you are into democratic values and principles. It will be a 4 day sales pitch for Brand Trump in all its All American Overblown Horror that Brits tend to find utterly distasteful. Expect the red carpet of full of turd glitter to be rolled out for Donald Trump Show. Expect May to embarass herself in her fawning all over him, as if she's star struck. Expect that hideously cringeworthy photo thats totally inevitable.

Politics is going to get worse. It may never get better.

(But yay football gets to cover it all up... Come on England!)

@JasminMuj
I fear too many still labour under belief that these indictments will be released & Trump’s presidency will unravel of its own volition. This is not Watergate. He will not resign. He will force institutions to bend to his will or crack them outright. It will be extremely ugly.

Yup.

“She was talking about her relatives who voted for Trump. Her first comment was "they just don't understand, they don't get it -they're pretty uneducated."

My US family (with a few exceptions) also voted for Trump. They are not uneducated, most of them went to college / have a degree. It’s really bizarre and I’ve really struggled with it. It’s like they’ve been brainwashed. The worst part is that they are immigrants themselves, and yet still look down on other newer immigrants. Confused

No such thing as a nation, no such thing as an indigenous person.
I have a feeling the trumpinstras watched the 'moonies' (ask your mum as Charlie Brookner says) in the 1970s and thought that would be a useful tactic. Cults. Sad

Same with my family. They haven't liked it when I pointed out how much they hated that rhetoric being aimed at them 30 years ago. Because they're different you know?

BrexitWife · 13/07/2018 22:15

That’s because tu have good immigrants and bad immigrants.
The good immigrants has done everything lawfully and more. They fit within the country, spend a lot of time saying how wonderful their host country is and often how bad their original country is.
By doing so they are proving/have proven to be worthy and as good as the ‘real’ inhabitants

A bad immigrant is one who isn’t following the rules/laws (eg an illgigal immigrant) for example or is going way over the top to fit in and be like everyone else (whilst knowing they aren’t).
Those are bad immigrants and it’s ok to have a really go at them.

And that’s why immigrants themselves can be much harsher to other immigrants who don’t follow the ‘code’.

PineappleSunrise · 13/07/2018 22:18

I also have a family member who voted for Trump. The thing is, unlike the rest of my very salt-of-the-earth people, the Trump voter IS in fact a genuine loser - bankrupt, twice divorced, not even good at his trade.

Our patience with him is wearing pretty damned thin these days.

I had never contemplated the obliteration of this country, but if I had, I wouldn't have thought that a little piece of shit called Nigel would have achieved it. But there we are.
Harold Pinter could probably have written a funny play about it.

Everyone is an immigrant! You know what happens to the gene pool when they're not. Lincolnshire. (joke)

prettybird · 13/07/2018 22:37

Trump himself is the son of an immigrant Hmm. He's married two immigrants Hmm. If "The Good Fight" is to be believed, she came in on a Genius" visa Confused

The USA is a country built by immigrants Hmm

But it's a classic "they're the right type of immigrants. Not like those nasty Hispanics and Natives from South America or the Muslims from the Middle East and Africa" Hmm

Those are the ones with nasty alternative cultures which will contaminate our righteous Christian way of life and are a threat to our safety HmmAngry

Nothing whatsoever to do with the inconvenient fact that the refugees are escaping war and instability that was fomented and encouraged by the activities of the US and its allies HmmConfused

And breeeeaaaathe Wink

OhLookHeKickedTheBall · 13/07/2018 22:43

I can wholeheartedly assure you that in my immigrant family's case all immigrants are bad. Except them. Well those family members, I have plenty on that side who realise that being bad isn't reliant on an accident of birth thankfully.
However I do know people of the view of good vs bad being those who fit in and those who don't. Though even then its pretty sketchy.

PineappleSunrise · 13/07/2018 22:43

"Hispanics" is one of the weirder aspects of American racism. Basically, an hispanic is a New World person of Spanish-speaking European ancestry.

They're white too, in other words. It's like anti-Irish racism in England.

Bearbehind · 13/07/2018 22:44

Exactly right prettybird.

I'm truly sickened by this notion of good and bad immigrants, especially in the case of Trump who is currently married to an immigrant.

I also despise those first and second generation immigrants who now seek to deny the next generation the same choices.

prettybird · 13/07/2018 23:19

I agree Bearbehind

As a South African by birth, I know that under apartheid, these "Spanish speakers of European descent" would have been categorised as "White". (My own birth certificate has my race colour "White" on it Hmm)

People are people. Smile

People went on about Meghan Markle being "black". I just saw a beautiful woman. The same with Halle Berry and any number of "black actresses" (and actors).

I know I speak from a position of white privilege. I know it helps some to highlight or identify with the particular race (or mix of races) that form their heritage. But I find it so frustrating when others attempt to pigeon hole other people into categories that pander to their prejudices.

prettybird · 13/07/2018 23:21

Sorry - that should also have been addressed to Pineapplesunrise Blush

OhLookHeKickedTheBall · 13/07/2018 23:37

pretty As someone who spends a lot of time on football terraces they ain't terraces no more you get a good grip of different forms of this crap. From John Barnes' goal that didn't count because he was black to Rio Ferdinand being so light skinned he was ok. My poor ADHD brain could not understand this when younger. I've now realise that people who are dicks to steal a phrase are dicks. They come in multiple colours, shapes, etc.

lonelyplanetmum · 14/07/2018 04:27

Youngest DD just woke me up again-she's running a slight temperature and I now can't get back sleep.

Thought I'd share this.

The new YouGov/ Times voting intention survey - the first conducted since the resignations of DD and BoJo sees the Tories on 37% .This is from 39% on 8-9 July and Labour on 39% (unchanged).

It was Conservatives 41%, Labour 40% on 3-4 July.

Elsewhere, Liberal Democrat voting intention stands at 10% (from 9%) while 14% would vote for other parties (from 13% previously).

The beneficiary of this recent decline in Conservative voting intention is UKIP, who are now on 6% having been on only 3% at the beginning of the month.

UKIP rising-No words.

Brexitwife In all EU countries, including the UK until it leaves,
EU citizens have the right to bring non-EU spouses to live with them.

This - and permanent appeal to the ECJ - are 2 of the main rights that May is insisting they lose after Brexit.
The draft Withdrawal Agreement would maintain rights of currently residing family members - if it is ever signed off.

The EU offered, right after A50, to keep all expat rights, but May refused

  • her "generous unilateral" offer that Leavers keep quoting was minus significant current rights

The Home Office since the EU ref has been breaking the law by telling some EU citizens or their spouses to leave.

Here are the detailled petition to the EU Parliament to address the lost rights
and the form to sign to support:

BigChocFrenzy · 14/07/2018 07:26

My mum's huge extended family in the Middle East (Christian) all emigrated to the US during the period 1950s - about 2012
They all got naturalised and all vote tribally conservative - and socially conservative - so vote Trump without thinking

They also look down on any immigrant who is poor, or at least not aspirational and working without leisure time

For too many "Christians" in the US, someone who is destitute and / or fleeing a regime - unless communist - or fleeing an abusive man, means God is punishing them for some great sins

RedToothBrush · 14/07/2018 07:38

If Mueller goes the way it's looking do ponder on this:

UKIP are rising in the polls and Farage has said he'd return to the leadership if he had to because of Brexit. But returning to the leadership would also be a damned good protection as it would inflict additional political chaos the more popular Farage is, in the UK. Simply because everyone of his fanboys would automatically claim it a stitch up.

If Farage does decide to become leader again, I will be looking straight at where Mueller is at, very expectantly.
