British politics and media in a nutshell.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boomerang_effect_(psychology)#Political_beliefs

No EU progress, no discussion. Just this. Keep everyone in line by bouncing boomerangs.

Disaster capitalism looms, they just have to get us to the edge of the cliff before the centre reforms. That's it.

If the legal roads to stop Brexit are closed as David Allen Green says, then how do you force the political flood gates to open, especially with both the far left and the far right using micro-aggression against the public to keep the centre ground weak?

Answers on a ballot paper on 3rd May.

I don't know if this has been posted already but OpenBritain is organising a March for the People's Vote on Sat 23rd June.

I will certainly be bringing my DS, I wonder whether we will bump in to William and Prince Louis of Remain...Smile

lonelyplanetmum · 27/04/2018 13:04

Dobby - If it hadn't been for the French Revolution, little Prince Louis of Remains' hand could already have been promised to Princess Marie- Thérèse of France 🤴🏼. Thereby creating a union of peace, prosperity and trade.

Now there's an idea. If only there were some modern way of creating a similar result...

Dobby1sAFreeElf · 27/04/2018 13:13

Don't give TM any ideas lonely, Trump has a number of young grandchildren available Envy

lonelyplanetmum · 27/04/2018 13:17

Agghhhh- has he?

Prince Louis of Remain

Is there a hashtag yet ? Be amusing if it started trending.

lonelyplanetmum · 27/04/2018 13:23

Oh no! I googled it. There's..

Arabella Rose Kushner
Chloe Sophia Trump
Tristan Milos Trump
Spencer Frederick Trump
Kai Madison Trump

And ( drum roll) Donald Trump the third

lonelyplanetmum · 27/04/2018 13:25

Hmmm ...wonders if the Spencer name was chosen with a view to reviving international political marital diplomacy...

RedToothBrush · 27/04/2018 13:32

"One is not amused by Prince Louis of Remain".

Hey, regarding the app for EU nationals seeking to stay in the UK after Brexit. I hope that elderly great Grandpa Phil can borrow a non iPhone if needed.

Irony Klaxon

MET SAY OLNEY COMMITTED CRIMINAL OFFENCE OVER SPENDING BREACH

The police are showing it’s one rule for politicians and another rule for everyone else – would they treat a benefits cheat with the same leniency? The Met and the CPS giving the LibDems the green light to break the law at will…

Yeah about that.

I do think tightening up on enforcement is needed.

But the problem is all the other instances where no further action has been taken in similar cases.

Irony Klaxon.

Hmmmm.Clutching at straws. In a constituency where it was only 47 votes or thereabouts between her as LibDem candidate, and Zac bloody Referendum Party Goldsmith.

Filling out a form with your start
date is more likely to have been an inadvertent putting down of the closest date you could remember - rather a deliberate circumventing of spending limits.

Unlike Gove and Johnson who must have known the whole BeLeave branch of the campaign was established exclusively to circumvent spending limits.

Amber Rudd was told about migrant removal targets, leak reveals
Exclusive: Secret memo contradicts home secretary’s claim she was unaware of targets

Someone really has it in for 'poor old' Amber Rudd.

Just to cheer everyone up …
Senior civil servant JDD on RNorth’s blog a few days ago, becoming ever more apocalyptic about Brexit
– I hope he is just a inherently panicky bugger, because I just can't believe the worst crash-out could be as bad as he fears:

http://eureferendum.com/blogview.aspx?blogno=868433_

“People get prepared for the worst ever economic situation ever
Get out of the UK if you can
Move your business
Stock up with 8 months of food and water
Be prepared for rationing, fuel, food, energy and water
Protect your property
Good luck“

DGRossetti · 27/04/2018 15:09

In the real world, there should be two very simple futures for Amber Rudd.

  1. The future predicated on her insisting she was unaware of a key policy of her own department, which is such a staggering display of incompetence so as to warrant resigning.

  2. The future predicated on her knowingly lying to the House. Instant dismissal-dressed-as-resignation.

Presumably she is Schrodinger's Home Secretary ?

DGRossetti · 27/04/2018 15:13

I just can't believe the worst crash-out could be as bad as he fears

I can, easily. But then I'm a fan of Bruegel and Bosch ...

The living will envy the dead

Has anyone ever practiced sewing themselves into their funeral shroud, in case there's no one around to do it for you ?

RedToothBrush · 27/04/2018 15:18

But project fear...

Can't imagine it will be as bad as that?

May has the anti-midas touch.

Name her political successes.

OP posts:
RedToothBrush · 27/04/2018 15:24

Ian Dunt @ iandunt
Even as someone who thinks demands for Rudd to go are a sideshow, it is getting v.hard to defend her continued presence.

What do we think? Will she last the weekend?

And if she doesn't, will she head straight to the naughty corner to sit next to Nicky, Anna, Dominic and Justine?

If she has any intention of continuing her political career she would have to do so, to reflect her constituency.

May has basically pushed her under a bus and is quite cleverly staying in the shadows herself.

DGRossetti · 27/04/2018 15:42

I'm still not 100% sure why Amber Rudd is the one in the spotlight here over Windrush - I can't understand why May is not getting more flak.

What's the word for a question which suggests its own answer ?

HoC Committee: 'Grave concerns' over department's approach to Brexit

Public Accounts Committee on BEIS progress on Brexit preparations, view from the Chair:

https://www.parliament.uk/business/committees/committees-a-z/commons-select/public-accounts-committee/news-parliament-2017/exiting-eu-beis-report-published-17-19/

"The Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy appears to be operating in a parallel universe where urgency is an abstract concept with no bearing on the Brexit process.

The Department is responsible for around a fifth of the work streams the Government must complete as the UK leaves the EU.
It is an extremely important, challenging and time-sensitive workload.

Yet the Department told us it had not re-prioritised its overall programme of work,
had not begun procurement for around a dozen essential digital systems
and could not provide vital information about its workforce.

We have grave concerns about this apparent complacency,
compounded by the lack of transparency on the Department’s progress with what in some cases will be critical projects."

mybrainhurtsalot · 27/04/2018 15:48

Exactly, Mother. I’m half wondering if this targets business was set up on purpose to deflect attention from TM.

lonelyplanetmum · 27/04/2018 15:59

Do we know if JDD is from BEIS...

No, afaik, he's been moved around but is currently attached to the Cabinet Office
