Hot Tramp, I love you so!

The European Parliament have agreed to progress talks to the next stage. Despite Brexiteers saying its not legally binding, it is apparent that the EU certainly disagree.

Not only that, but the wording of the deal goes further. It binds us to not being able to agree and new trade deals for 2 years.

The All Important Amendment 7 to the Great Repel Bill has been successful. May’s power grab has a set back.

By just FOUR votes the government was defeated. How May will be regretting that pointless election tonight.

Parliament will have a meaningful vote on the exit terms.

But don’t be too excited. Brussels might not like this as May can not guarantee the UK will agree to a deal. It means the the EU are negotiating with parliament NOT May now.

There is also the suggestion that the mood of parliament is changing and is beginning to lean more towards a EFTA / EEA type deal.

But equally this could also send us to the brink with a deal from the EU that could be rejected by parliament.

The stakes just got higher.

Two by elections last night. The Lib Dem’s gain in godalming central is astonishing (unless I’m missing local factors that makes it less so - perhaps the collapse of the “something new” party?)

Great LibDem news. Never thought I'd say that as an historical Labour voter.

On a slightly flippant aside, to be positive about some Tories too, is it me or do these backbenchers have kinder warmer faces than the likes of Gove, Leadsome, May, Redwood, Rees Mogg etc?

Not surprised at the DM front page , watched the BBC news this morning at 5.45 when they have a guest on and go through the papers , but don't think they did this one or I may have just left the room for a moment ?

Wrt a couple of previous questions:
The DUP - all 10 - voted with the Govt against Amdmt 7.
Also it appears 12 Tories voted for it. I don't know why the DM says 11 should be 'proud of themselves'...

Article 50: a legal challenge, championed by A C Grayling, is going to get underway to challenge the legal basis for A50. Nearly met its crowd fund target.

One of the striking things after last night’s vote were the smiles & laughter of Ministers who oppose a hard #Brexit

Chuka's response to Dorries was also good
You have voted against a Tory leader and PM over 30 times - you are in no position to scold others who do so. They put their view of the national interest above party interest for which they deserve gratitude - it’s about country not party.

Sludgecolours · 14/12/2017 07:54

Are Waitrose distributing the Daily Mail free across the UK?

If so, I think we should know who authorised this on behalf of all their staff?

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 14/12/2017 07:54

Tweeted waitrose, have yet to email.

@faisalislam
Normalisation of words “traitor/treachery” to mean “people who disagree with my belief”...
Not entirely sure how political system is meant to do its job of mediating sustainable democratic compromise in such circumstances...

thecatfromjapan · 14/12/2017 07:56

I've emailed Waitrose.

That is not something I associate with Waitrose.

Chuku Umana was talking on the radio about how he fears to stand too close to the edge of the tube platform, in case some extremist pushes him under.

That headline is extremist.

It's important we don't allow ourselves to become de-sensitised to extremism. Vitally important.

Waitrose giving it away is an act of desensitisation. Sad

I'm sure they had no idea that was going to be the headline when they agreed the deal.

It's an utterly despicable headline in a country where a MP was actually shot and killed by a Far Right extremist.

It's massively irresponsible of Waitrose to endorse it.

How are they going to justify it if someone does harm one of these MPs?

I sound crazy writing that, don't I? And yet, of course, we now live in a country where a MP has been killed by a Far Right extremist.

BiglyBadgers · 14/12/2017 08:04

I'm assuming that waitrose agreed a publicity deal with the mail that they would do this. It was probably agreed ages and ages ago. It's promoting to middle class leavers I suppose. All the burgundy trouser types.

woman11017 · 14/12/2017 08:04

Correction 'not distributing' but giving away free if you spend more than £10
I'll remove that post.

BiglyBadgers · 14/12/2017 08:07

Oh, yes. Now I see. They do that with the guardian and other papers as well and have done for yonks.

Eeeeeowwwfftz · 14/12/2017 08:11

Generally a good idea that get your facts straight before slamming into the social media.

Tanith · 14/12/2017 08:12

Not surprised by the Godalming result. Paul Follows ran by far the best campaign and, in fact, won two elections last night - the Borough one, too.

The Conservatives finally sunk their chances by wheeling out Jeremy Hunt, the local MP Grin

TheElementsSong · 14/12/2017 08:12

It says on the Waitrose website that they give a choice of newspapers if you spend over £10 so unless this is a new thing for today, it’s not a Daily Mail Special deal.

thecatfromjapan · 14/12/2017 08:20

Drat. That's a reminder to me to check before writing a strongly-worded e-mail!

Sludgecolours · 14/12/2017 08:20

Thanks for clarifying Woman11017! I was about to forego my Waitrose Christmas pudding!
