When is lying not lying. When you can get enough of your mates to agree it is not lying.

And so we have David Davis, who has made two statements to parliament which deliberately contradict each other and must constitute some sort of lie to parliament at some point however you cut it.

Will the Speaker risk the wrath of his party to uphold democratic values? We watch carefully.

Davis also reveals and exposes May too though. May one way or another is complicit in Davis’s lie, either through not doing her job in reading the reports or by protecting Davis when she knew the reports did not exist. This is gross misconduct in her inability to ensure her staff do their bloody jobs. All so she can keep her own job.

This is where whistleblowers in other institutions pop up.

It has also become apparent that May has not had THE conversation with the Cabinet over what shape Brexit should take. After 18months.
Why not? Is she incapable of consensus building or is she just incompetent?

And then we have the DUP seemingly not being properly being involved in the wording of the all important document.

Vote Leave’s Oliver Norgrove is perfectly right in saying that Hard Brexit is all but dead. Don’t let that make you feel happier. Hard Brexiteers know that there only option now, is No Deal and that’s what they will try and pursue.

There is no deal until everything is settled. Right now, nothing is settled, not even what the UK want out of Brexit, never mind the EU position.

May might well have blown the only opportunity for a deal too, because of her failure over NI and the DUP. Where does she go from here? The idea that she will stand up to anyone, is ludicrous given her track record.

We might all wish we could John Lennon's song was apt when it comes to this Christmas and Brexit, it seems the war for our future post Brexit, it seems it is only just starting.

I like it mrsreynolds 'there, there' approach to it might be the only way to deal with the cross and nonsensical toddlers.(leavers)
This is a great thread on the history of the 'leave'.

That's not my brexit I want a tax haven:

@BrexitBin
The EU insists we adhere to ALL EU laws during our two year transition. That INCLUDES the EU's Anti-Tax Avoidance laws (to be introduced in 2019).
Bear that in mind next time you hear Mogg and the rest of them raging against the agreement.

We may as well just bend over and let the European Union have its way with us for years to come'

BBC are saying they're puzzled as to what Gove meant with his statement.
He means hes going for leadership. That apparently hasn't crossed their minds Confused

What is it with the BBC at the moment?

Delurking to express my horror at the possibility of Hunt-Gove partnership emerging. Although maybe this would be the nail in the coffin for the Tory party? Surely they are universally loathed??

LurkingHusband · 09/12/2017 10:08

On the basis of what is happening, I'm wondering if this was the masterstroke - the rabbit out of a hat - we were expecting in vain ?

It seems to have set the Brexiteers on each other in quite a vicious way, and at a stroke removed that pressure from May.

If I follow my own suggestion that the money-media pipeline for the Brexiteers has now been shut off (they're on their own now !) then they simply won't be able to garner the support they had to force anything. And if they try and fail, they may even risk where we are now. After all as this thread shows Remainers haven't gone away.

But for now, despite the snow, the sun is shining and the street looks like a Victorian Christmas Card. Let's hope thats the only thing ...

lonelyplanetmum · 09/12/2017 10:11

Also what do people think of the press treatment?

It seems to me scrolling down all the headlines, that it is the 'non news' cat litter tray liners that are jingoistically triumphant?

Oh and my contribution is...

That's not my Brexit its wording's too fuzzy.

IrenetheQuaint · 09/12/2017 10:20

There's a long road ahead still. For me immigration is the dog that hasn't barked (apart from the multiple stories about recruitment crises in the NHS etc caused by departing EU citizens). But it's still the key issue likely to prevent us getting anything close to a Norway-style deal. Though, having proclaimed their enthusiasm for an open border in Ireland, the Brexiteers have rather undermined their position on freedom of movement.

LurkingHusband · 09/12/2017 10:22

Came across the story about the case of Robert Hamill, who was kicked to death by a group of Loyalists in 1997. It was said a group of RUC officers failed to act when called upon for help. It is just not what you'd expect a police force in a normal society to be like.

You could probably stick a pin in any number of not so old "Mississippi Monthlys" or "Alabama Advertisers" and find an equivalent story about a black man, and white police officers.

"Mississippi Burning" was a true story. I can't put a hand on it straightaway, but if you get a chance, have a look at a photo of the Sheriff and Deputy on trial in Mississippi - they're smiling and laughing because they know (and are correct) that they will be acquitted.

lonelyplanetmum · 09/12/2017 10:27

Yes immigration is still there lurking (sorry LH). I assume everyone has seen this classic.

Leaving the EU is supposed to get rid of ( welcome for most ) Brown faces.

That's not my Brexit, its faces are too Brown.

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 09/12/2017 10:27

From yesterday, lurking

There's also the desperately sad case of Daniel Shaver who was killed while complying with the police. The police officer, who shot him in the back 5 times as Daniel lay prostrate on the floor, was found not guilty. The video of the brutal murder was released yesterday but apologies, I can't bring myself to post it. It's in the article though. Oh, and contrary to what you may have thought, not unreasonably given the precedents, Daniel Shaver is not black but white.

At first I thought it was an urban legend, but Officer Philip Brailsford really did have the words “You’re Fucked” etched into the steel of the AR-15 assault rifle that he used to murder Daniel Shaver.

The jury did not know this.

Cops executed Daniel Shaver.
•Shaver unarmed, peaceful, compliant, and inebriated
•Cop shot Shaver in the back & neck 5x as Shaver lay face down
•Cop acquitted as Not Guilty

This is 2017 America: “the land of the free.” Unacceptable.😓

Btw #BlackLivesMatter is fighting for Daniel Shaver, a white man killed by a white cop while the All Lives Matter crowd is defending the cop. Shows you who really believes that all lives matter and who just wants to defend privilege and police brutality.

That's not my Brexit its wording's too fuzzy.

There was a joke at the time that having won the referendum, all we had to do was say "well, that's Brexit then", and done nothing, apart from change the colour of our passports. For 80% of the people, that would have been it.

LurkingHusband · 09/12/2017 10:33

Daniel Shaver is not black but white.

Only on the outside.

woman11017 · 09/12/2017 10:41

A series of brutal arrests of black children by @metpoliceuk and controversial deaths in custody has Brought London’s black community to boiling point. Nobody cares. @jeremycorbyn or @MayorofLondon @HackneyAbbott @PeoplesMomentum #Racism #PoliceBrutality ow.ly/XBEd30h5tym

Like statistics of women killed by men in 2016, these stats are now difficult to access, but there have been several cases in the last year of black teenagers dying while in police custody in London.

The current 53% to 47% to remain is slow, but even the leavers' narrative has shifted:

Faisal Islam
Interesting to look at the angry responses to my (accurate) reporting of the exit settlement (£42-50bn) from exactly a year ago.. and see most of those accounts seem perfectly at ease now its confirmed. Odd.

@faisalislam
"We were told €50-60 billion" multiple EU sources tell Sky News re UK exit settlement for liabilities

@faisalislam
And exactly the same pattern in the wildly angry responses to my exclusive interview with then IRish leader Enda Kenny from a year ago, gently suggesting that a transition period was inevitable. Not a peep now.

TheElementsSong · 09/12/2017 10:57

The Leavers have always been keen on the rewriting of history, nothing new there.

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 09/12/2017 11:00

And facts, as per Raab’s tv circuits

NorWoman · 09/12/2017 11:01

Surely they are universally loathed??
Loathed maybe but in light of the rightwing media British inc. the BBC's government compliance the people are even less likely to revolt against the status quo and demand change. # Stiff upper lip.
