The big developments are that the government have signalled they are prepared to pay more and to involve the ECJ when it comes to citizens rights on condition that we move to talk of trade. But no apparent progress on NI. Which is significant with Ireland threatening to veto.

The EU has not changed its stance at all. Since Day 1.

There is always a worrying omission and lack of commitment to retain the Charter of Fundamental Rights. The bonfire begins.

Talk is of Green still going in a reshuffle, possibly with Gove replacing him as Deputy PM.

Coalition talks in Germany have broken down, and the British have got excited about it, whilst the German response have largely been a slight shrug.

Its been a much quieter week, despite the budget. Thank goodness. There are lots of outstanding issues that are lurking in the background like the Green one though.

The main message coming from the budget, has not been any new policy, but the dreadful economic forecast for the next few years.

The court heard the A-level student, who is white and British, had set up an Instagram account encouraging jihad and supporting al-Qaeda. Police found the password for the account was "truck attack".

Hmm

Are our youth really that stupid ?

LurkingHusband · 28/11/2017 11:24

Now the Chieftain tank could run on petrol, diesel, alcohol, paint thinners, cooking oil .... whatever was in the field.

Holliewantstobehot · 28/11/2017 11:28

Just watched a bit of sky news politics. Interview with German Ambassador to the UK. Asked if crisis in Germany would affect brexit. He replied that they had a mini crisis and if they wanted to see real crisis in government they only had to look at the UK or the states. Touché.

AgnesSkinner · 28/11/2017 11:32

The original Leyland designed Chieftain with RR engines couldn’t - multifuel was a NATO requirement which meant a massive redesign with different German engines.

HashiAsLarry · 28/11/2017 11:41

Well my DM is currently not talking to me after I asked her to stop talking around me and the DC about undeserving forriners scrounging off the nhs. She can tell by looking at them you know. She also didn't like me pointing out she took exception to that treatment herself 3 decades ago.

Oh well, at least I can avoid Christmas with the brexit loving racist family this year. I'll consider it an early gift.

LurkingHusband · 28/11/2017 11:42

The supplementary bit I left out was how the REME guys I knew hated them ...

LurkingHusband · 28/11/2017 11:54

Well at least they are consistent. If there's one thing worse than being a female victim of crime in UK2017, it's being a foreign female victim of crime Angry

Where are the c**ts who voted Tory now.

www.politics.co.uk/news/2017/11/28/woman-reports-rape-to-police-and-is-arrested-on-immigration

A woman who reported being kidnapped and raped over a six month period to the police was arrested as she sought care, Politics.co.uk can reveal.

The shocking case reveals how far Theresa May's 'hostile environment' towards immigrants has gone and raises serious questions about whether immigration enforcement practices are now discouraging the victims of crimes from reporting them to the police.

The woman, who was five months pregnant at the time of her arrest, attended a London police station in March to report that she had been kidnapped and raped in Germany between September 2016 and March 2017.

Officers took her to the Havens sexual assault centre, which provides care for women who have been sexually assaulted.

Some Brexit news in real life:

Farmcare to quit ‘operational’ farming

One of Britain’s largest farming businesses – Farmcare – has announced it is quitting “operational farming” and turning to joint venture arrangements instead.

The company, which farms 13,000ha over 11 sites, was formerly run as Co-op Farms, but was sold to the Wellcome Trust in 2014.

A statement issued on Tuesday (21 November), said following a lengthy review of its business, Farmcare was announcing “a restructuring plan that will increase the economic resilience of its farms and ensure their long-term prosperity”.

The company is already in negotiations with potential farming business partners, who will take over the operational management of the farms on a day-to-day basis.

The plan will also see Farmcare closing its central office in Barnsley and selling its fruit business as a standalone entity.

I assume quitting operational farming is euphemism for fleeing the marketplace and joint ventures mean that they do not expect to find cash buyers.

Ashford: A20 lorry clamping trial begins between Charing and the Drovers roundabout 31st October 2017

A controversial clamping trial stopping lorry drivers from parking illegally in Ashford has started.

RHA disappointed at lorry park set back 15th November 2017

The Road Haulage Association is disappointed to learn that the Department for Transport’s Judicial Review into the planned lorry park in Kent has been rejected.

The judges ruled that the proposed holding area for Operation Stack at Stanford West, designed to provide safe and secure parking for approximately 3,600 lorries, cannot go ahead because no environmental assessment was carried out prior to the review.
www.rha.uk.net/news/press-releases/2017-11-november/rha-disappointed-at-lorry-park-set-back

It is all kicking off. I was expressly told by colleagues living in Kent that there is too much traffic there because of all the foreigners, and Brexit will ease congestion.

Yes that’s true elena

Things don’t seem to be going well in Westminster

David Allen Green
@davidallengreen
At least three pro-Brexit MPs saying government has not complied with the "humble address".

Even suggesting a new, amended motion.

This is not looking good for government.

Real prospect now of a contempt of parliament motion in due course.

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 28/11/2017 13:49

David Allen Green
@davidallengreen
In essence:

  1. Davis has to attend Brexit committee "very soon".
  1. Bercow will then consider any new notices requesting a contempt motion.
  1. Bercow rules disclosure motion is "binding".
  1. Looks like government may attempt new, amended binding motion re papers.

1/2

  1. So (a) unless government manage to get a new amended binding motion, and (b) if Brexit committee say disclosure so far insufficient, then real prospect of contempt motion.
  1. Government is in a serious hole here.
  1. Bercow is playing a blinder. An outstanding Speaker.

2/2

mrsreynolds · 28/11/2017 13:55

LOVE Bercow

RhiannonOHara · 28/11/2017 13:58

I posted a while back about being unable to obtain a prescribed medicine, with various theories as to why.

Here's the MHRAs unhelpful reply:

As you will be aware the manufacturer, Thea Pharma, discontinued both presentations of Teoptic (carteolol) 1% and 2% eye drops from the UK market; with last supplies entering the supply chain in August 2017. Thea Parma was the sole supplier in the UK and there are no currently no licensed carteolol eye drops on the market. We understand that UK specialist importers are able to import unlicensed carteolol 1% and 2% eye drops presentations from abroad for individual patient use. Under the medicines legislation, a doctor can prescribe an unlicensed medicine from another country, however in doing so, takes full responsibility for the welfare of their patient.

LurkingHusband · 28/11/2017 14:07

real prospect of contempt motion.

meaning ? Loss of sweet rations for a day ?

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 28/11/2017 14:14

David Allen Green‏
@davidallengreen

Those getting excited at the prospect of a "contempt of parliament" motion being passed.

(And it would be exciting.)

Bercow and MPs more interested in compliance with the binding motion.

So something "compliant" likely to be negotiated very quickly.

HashiAsLarry · 28/11/2017 14:23

@davidallengreen
Whichever genius came up with using the nineteenth century "humble address" binding motion for disclosure of the sector reports deserves a constitutional prize.

Cat, meet the Brexit pigeons.

This is chaotic.

LurkingHusband · 28/11/2017 14:29

I wonder if they actually know what "contempt of parliament" means ? (Hence their desire to avoid it ...)

lalalonglegs · 28/11/2017 14:29

In order to avoid a contempt motion, wouldn't DD have to sit in front of the select committee and back down? Is DAG convinced that would happen? DD is such an arrogant (and to compound his stupidty, lazy and careless) man, I think he will just try to bluster his way out of it.

OliviaD68 · 28/11/2017 14:33

@LurkingHusband

So we are clear, what are the consequences of being deemed in contempt of parliament? Removal from Parliament? Arrest?

Would DD's absence today not be considered another instance of such?

LurkingHusband · 28/11/2017 14:37

OliviaD68

Was your question aimed at me ? I don't have those answers !

lalalonglegs · 28/11/2017 14:37

@Olivia68

According to David Allen Green, the traditional punishment was to be locked up in Big Ben. He doesn't specify for how long...

lalalonglegs · 28/11/2017 14:39

I've just skimmed the DAG and David Lammy twitters for today - this is a monumental fuck up. The sheer breadth of the government's lies and their incompetent attempts to cover their tracks takes the breath away. Shock

Peregrina · 28/11/2017 14:40

I suspect the reduced form of the impact assessments is, in fact, the only bit that they could get written in time.
