So in the spirit of sharing our deluded brexiteer cheerfulness, heres a round up of some of this weeks good news.

The government have 'found' £60billion to put is a slush fund for brexit.

And in the week that saw the interest rate rise, the Bank of England said gloomily "as migration tightens, we will see wage growth". Note the 'we will'. Smile

Excellent. All this whilst the media obsess over impotent politicians as Britain works.

Rumour has it, some remainers are a little glum.....

Scotland has always lead MRI scanning - the first full body MRI scanner was developed at the University of Aberdeen.

It’s on display at the ARI Smile

OliviaD68 · 21/11/2017 11:47

MRI is good news and nice to read about.

But nothing to do w Brexit.

Red squirrel. Grey squirrel. Don't care. This is a Brexit thread.

AgnesSkinner · 21/11/2017 11:48

Howabouts news is actually Brexit related though - research on Fast-Field Cycling MRI has been funded by Horizon 2020 to the tune of €6.6 million.

So good it posted twice Hmm

OliviaD68 · 21/11/2017 11:52

@AgnesSkinner

Agree!!!

CardinalSin · 21/11/2017 11:53

So the good news is that it's going to lose it's funding and not be world leading anymore?

AgnesSkinner · 21/11/2017 12:03

And talking of red squirrels, I guess they won’t be getting any more EU funding in the UK either:

Oh the irony!

CardinalSin · 21/11/2017 12:10

Well, that only makes sense, what with all these leavers that want to tie us to America. Let's make sure the grey squirrel takes over everything...

howabout · 21/11/2017 13:04

Definitely Brexit related and pertinent to relocation of EMA. Co-operation in medical research helps UK and EU27. It is not the UK pulling up the drawbridge. Smaller insular EU6 plus adherents is in no-one's interests esp EU.

If you would rather discuss squirrels however I will leave you to it.

CardinalSin · 21/11/2017 13:12

I still don't get this bizarre Leaver "logic".

We're leaving the EU therefore the EU should leave their organisations here, because we didn't say we wanted to get rid of them.

It really is religious in nature.

Bearbehind · 21/11/2017 13:12

howabout the logic in your arguments today is baffling me- have you changed sides?

howabout · 21/11/2017 13:13

www.theguardian.com/environment/2017/feb/24/red-squirrels-5000-volunteers-sought-to-save-species-and-help-kill-invasive-greys

Someone needs to come up with a squirrelpox vax pdq. Could never bring myself to bludgeon a red, grey or black squirrel - that's our resident fox's job.

howabout · 21/11/2017 13:16

Just agreeing with the BMA.

I have no idea why political Union is or ever was a necessary prerequisite for any of this.

CardinalSin · 21/11/2017 13:30

"We are conscious of the fact that the EU makes a significant contribution to UK research and, indeed, that the UK receives more in grants from Horizon 2020 and its predecessors than it has contributed to the programmes."

I.e. The UK has been gladly taking all this EU money, and somehow expects the EU to keep paying for it after we've left. CF. Cornwall, Wales, etc...

"A vital aspect of the partnership working across the EU is the capacity for research staff to work, learn and teach in institutions across the Union."

Or, Freedom of Movement, one of the central pillars of the EU

"Hence, we believe that common regulatory frameworks should remain for research and medicines. In particular, we would support the UK’s continued membership of the European Medicines Agency"

Yes! We want to remain a member of European agencies when it suits us

"and believe that this would be facilitated by the Agency remaining in London"

And we'd like our cake and eat it...

howabout · 21/11/2017 13:37

See entirely consistent. Always been a huge fan of Cake and Eat It Cake Brew

CardinalSin · 21/11/2017 13:44

But that's the bizarre mindset!

So many Brexiteers think that having our cake and eating it is a noble, fair, and reasonable position!

It does make you sound somewhat unhinged...

Bearbehind · 21/11/2017 14:14

OMFG, you are actually serious aren’t you howabout?

CardinalSin · 21/11/2017 14:15

Have you sent that to David Davis?

But even that doesn't propose that one party having their cake and eating it at the expense of the other party is a successful negotiation.

Leavers on this thread don't seem to actually read what they link to!

OliviaD68 · 21/11/2017 14:19

@howabout

This doesn't apply here. The negotiations are
Lose-Lose. Not win-win. There's nothing in it for either side but damage control.

howabout · 21/11/2017 16:03

Cardinal the point of all my links today is that the EU is cutting its nose off to spite its face. Always been my position that UK leaving EU could and should be good for both sides. ie win-win

CardinalSin · 21/11/2017 16:05

Au contraire, as they say over the water...

OliviaD68 · 21/11/2017 16:07

@howabout

There is zero good about Brexshit for either party. Zero.
