So in the spirit of sharing our deluded brexiteer cheerfulness, heres a round up of some of this weeks good news.

http://www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/markets/article-5040279/UK-exports-booming-outside-Europe.html

http://www.londonlovesbusiness.com/business-news/london-news/big-boost-world-bank-ranks-uk-seventh-in-its-doing-business-report/18554.article

https://uk.reuters.com/article/uk-britain-eu-volkswagen/vw-explores-uk-banking-licence-ahead-of-brexit-idUKKBN1D22KR

The government have 'found' £60billion to put is a slush fund for brexit.

And in the week that saw the interest rate rise, the Bank of England said gloomily "as migration tightens, we will see wage growth". Note the 'we will'. Smile

Excellent. All this whilst the media obsess over impotent politicians as Britain works.

Rumour has it, some remainers are a little glum.....

Just seen this image on my FB being used to advertise local group for new Mums. Wee bit more what I'm used to.

Latest PWC growth forecasts for the UK - tad more optimistic than the EU Commission.

What is interesting is in the small print. They have modelled the effect on GDP per head by 2030 if EU migration to the UK halves. They estimate £60 per annum (which could be mitigated away). Tad different from however many £000s GO guesstimated.

Also see a continuing re balance between consumption and exports and investment.

Looks like leaves poster boy also had concerns about the Irish border.

www.independent.ie/irish-news/politics/nigel-farage-says-plans-for-irish-border-after-brexit-a-concern-as-coveney-says-ireland-will-be-stubborn-36038702.html

IT IS is "of concern" that EU citizens will be able to move freely across the Irish border into the UK without any immigration checks after Brexit, Nigel Farage has said.

Not going well today either;

www.theguardian.com/politics/2017/nov/17/irish-pm-brexit-backing-politicians-did-not-think-things-through

No shit.

CardinalSin · 17/11/2017 17:12

David Davis tells German business leaders not to put politics ahead of prosperity whilst putting politics ahead of prosperity, and gets laughed at!

Deservedly so.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 17/11/2017 17:22

www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2017/aug/16/uk-government-border-proposals-ireland-brexit-position-paper

The one really bold move in the paper is its rejection of the technological utopianism of the more enthusiastic Brexiteers, especially in the Democratic Unionist party. The commitment to “avoid any physical border infrastructure” means that there can be no CCTV cameras or registration-plate recognition systems. Magical machines are not going to take the place of human customs officers.

FaithHopeCharityDesperation · 17/11/2017 17:35

IT IS is "of concern" that EU citizens will be able to move freely across the Irish border into the UK without any immigration checks after Brexit, Nigel Farage has said.

And Nigel Farage is a big hitter in Parliament & the EU negotiations, what with him being in govt as part of the cabinet & DEXEU, isn’t he...

But it must be reassuring for you that you have an ally in Nigel, as he shares your fears re the (entirely imaginary) impending hordes using Ireland as a staging point - You Are Not Alone in your crackpot conspiracy theories!

GhostofFrankGrimes · 17/11/2017 17:46

Remarkable how brexiteers can detach Brexit and Nigel Farage just as immigration as an issue is airbrushed from history.

I have no fears faith. I don’t want a border, brexit and NI are incompatible. Likely to end in tears for the British government.

shhhfastasleep · 17/11/2017 18:09

Davis bleating on TV about how mean the EU is in negotiations.
So funny and sad at the same time.
To quote every Brexiteer’s favourite, Junckers , “the clock is ticking “.
Why should they give us a good deal? It is arch stupidity to think they would.

Figmentofmyimagination · 17/11/2017 18:20

It is all a bit Alice in Wonderland. Davies telling a roomful of Germans, with a straight face, that they should be concerning themselves with 'prosperity not politics'. Doesn't anyone think that's a bit odd? Brexit is all about sacrificing prosperity for politics. This very thread is evidence of that. Even people 100% committed to brexit have to scrape around the Internet with articles such as the pwc report showing that we may be going backwards, but at least it's not as bad yet as everyone feared.

There should be good news - not these sad dribs and drabs and attempts to spin stuff with a sort of mad 'cheeriness'.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 17/11/2017 18:24

Davies isn’t exactly doing uk any favours is he?

shhhfastasleep · 17/11/2017 18:34

The only bargaining tool we have is to maintain goodwill at the ROI/NI Border. Anyone old enough to remember how desperate it was before (I am old enough) desperately hopes we don’t go back to a hard border.
A soft border is better for peace and trade. Do Brexiteers want this? with all that ranting about unsustainable hordes of EU citizens swanning into the UK taking our jobs and swelling our schools (not forgetting the imminent arrival of every Turkish person in Turkey and every Syrian etc etc).

abilockhart · 17/11/2017 19:00

Seemingly, Leavers are trying very, very hard to convince themselves at this stage. Smile

GhostofFrankGrimes · 17/11/2017 19:11

Interesting piece on sky news on the place that gets brexiteers all excited, Catalonia. Sadly businesses are pulling out because they value EU membership. If only someone had explained this to leavers before the referendum

howabout · 17/11/2017 19:12

Wee example of wrong on the internet.

"It noted that Scotland had the second highest proportion of European Economic Area (EEA) workers in the UK at 8%, behind London at 14%".

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-scotland-business-42025327

The 8% for Scotland struck me as odd. According to latest Scottish Government stats it is actually 5%.

www.gov.scot/Publications/2017/11/1376/3

Looks like the PWC report has something wrong in the detailed regional analysis graphs and BBC have picked it up without crosschecking.

Do wish people would spell DD correctly, especially since there is another MP called David Davies.

Going for my pedant of the year award Star

Good twitter comment on politics before prosperity - that's where it is in the dictionary. Grin

howabout · 17/11/2017 19:14

Ghost your comment re Catalonia is more relevant to any future consideration of Indyref (and possibly ROI/NI issue) than Brexit surely?

GhostofFrankGrimes · 17/11/2017 19:20

Nope, uk is democratically leaving EU. UKs responsibility to find solution to NI. If businesses leave UK, well it’s the will of the people.

FaithHopeCharityDesperation · 17/11/2017 19:36

UKs responsibility to find solution to NI.

There is a solution - no border.

The UK isn’t insisting on a border, the EU is.

The UK can do whatever it wants re borders post Brexit - it can say ‘no borders at all for anyone or anything’ at one end of the spectrum, or it can say ‘militarise all borders & allow no goods or people to pass’ at the other extreme.

It is entirely the EU that is insisting that there must be a border.

shhhfastasleep · 17/11/2017 19:40

“The UK can do whatever it wants re borders post Brexit - it can say ‘no borders at all for anyone or anything’ at one end of the spectrum, or it can say ‘militarise all borders & allow no goods or people to pass’ at the other extreme.”
So what was all that guff prior to the vote about “we need to strengthen our borders “?

GhostofFrankGrimes · 17/11/2017 19:41

Brexiteers just winging it now in a desperate attempt to save face.

shhhfastasleep · 17/11/2017 19:41

Talk about “making it up as you go along “!

Bearbehind · 17/11/2017 19:42

How is having no border a feasible solution?

It relies on us being able to carry on as before.

When will Leavers accept this isn't going to happen.

CardinalSin · 17/11/2017 19:42

That's hilarious!

shhhfastasleep · 17/11/2017 19:46

Be honest, Brexiteers, you either didn’t think about the land border at all or you believed the half arsed crap of that honourable bunch of rednecks and terrorist sympathisers aka the DUP.

woman11017 · 17/11/2017 19:47

Unicorn drones?

time4chocolate · 17/11/2017 19:53

I don’t usually go in for all this could/might/maybe malarkey, however, just supposing there is no agreeable solution to the ROI/NI border issue and we can’t progress, do we end up with no deal in March 2019 or do we stay in the EU? If we stay in then what, everything goes back to normal and we all live happy ever after - I think not.

An acceptable solution will be found.
