Where have all the Brexiters gone?

Just that really. 52% voted to leave. I know Mumsnet isn't completely representative of the electorate but you would expect at least a few people to be banging the Brexit drum. The ones that were quite vocal seem to have lost their voice. Perhaps they're just bored with the whole thing but their silence really is deafening.

Have you answered her question M4dad and I missed it?
If so I apologise.

Bearbehind · 11/10/2017 12:25

I simply mean that it isn't our job to figure out how it will work, that wasn't the question the referendum asked.

That sentiment will never cease to amaze me.

Talk about abdicating all responsibility for your actions.

It's truly appalling.

purits · 11/10/2017 12:26

Purits, I don't think any of the Tories/Lib Dems/Labour are right at the moment ... I have no idea what your point is.

My point, spelled our simply for the hard-of-understanding (he he that feels good), is that there is no right or wrong in politics. You cannot prove anything. You simply amass data and come to your own individual conclusion.
Brexiters cannot "prove" that Brexit is right, no more than Remainers can prove that it is wrong.

The evidence about what life is going to be like in the future strongly suggest ...

We all know that their are lies, damn lies and statistics. What you get out of your prediction machine depends entirely on what assumptions you put in.

M4Dad · 11/10/2017 12:26

OUR PM – as elected by us, or at least whose party is – sits on the EU Council

We have MEPs. You can write to them just as you can write to your Westminster or other UK MP

OK, say the EU does something we don't like, the people have no power to change that, do they?

surferjet · 11/10/2017 12:27

M4Dad
Don’t rise to them.
They start threads like this because they’re bored talking to each other.

Theworldisfullofidiots · 11/10/2017 12:28

So hard brexit = WTO option.
E.g.massive trade implications

Where have all the Brexiters gone?
BaronessEllaSaturday · 11/10/2017 12:28

Talk about abdicating all responsibility for your actions.

That is just it, it isn't my responsibility beyond voting for the people in power same as that is all you are responsible for.

M4Dad · 11/10/2017 12:28

They start threads like this because they’re bored talking to each other.

True, we are seeing the effects of those that only interact in echo chambers.

CardinalSin · 11/10/2017 12:30

M4Dad - not a very good question. We don't need a political union to be able to trade with other countries.

We don't even need to agree standards and jurisdiction.

However, if we don't agree those things, it's will be far more costly and time consuming, and those European countries will find cheaper and quicker alternatives.

There are also no agreements about services outside of the Single Market (even inside there are no proper ones, but they are fully allowed pending final agreements), and guess what our major exports are?

surferjet · 11/10/2017 12:32

& loving your posts on the 2nd referendum thread!

M4Dad · 11/10/2017 12:33

M4Dad - not a very good question. We don't need a political union to be able to trade with other countries

So you agree that there is no need for a political union and that we could just get along fine with a Trade Union (as in what the EU started out as)

We do not need a political European union.

CardinalSin · 11/10/2017 12:39

We do not need a political union. And, wow, we had a massive level of opt outs from any further political union.

Well, blow me!

So I wouldn't be wrong in saying that the whole EU project is just one massive con, it wasn't needed, it wasn't merited and it was brought through almost on the sly. It's literally the Inner Party from Orwell's 1984

People have been brainwashed into thinking it's some kind of saviour even though much of Europe is in poverty, they've even started to think that democracy isn't that important anymore - how the feck did that happen?

The one thing I love about Brexit is that we've given the Elites a punch on the nose and I love that.

themueslicamel · 11/10/2017 12:44

Cardinal

Well, blow me!

Can I get to know you a bit first! Grin

CardinalSin · 11/10/2017 12:45

Er, yes, you would be wrong in saying that.

HTH

M4Dad · 11/10/2017 12:45

So because you don't like the idea of a closer political union with the rest of your allies/trading block, you have decided to deeply damage yourselves politically and economically

There was no reason for any political union in the first place, that's the point.

CardinalSin · 11/10/2017 12:46

"M4Dad - not a very good question. We don't need a political union to be able to trade with"

HAHAHAHAHAHA!

The only people who are going to benefit are the elites and disaster capitalists like TM's husband

CardinalSin · 11/10/2017 12:47

Great, copy and paste fail!

The quote should be;

"The one thing I love about Brexit is that we've given the Elites a punch on the nose and I love that."

GhostofFrankGrimes · 11/10/2017 12:47

Apart from peace in Europe, scientific collaboration, European partnerships etc.

M4Dad · 11/10/2017 12:48

Thanks for answering my question, Cardinal Sin. Good to hear a remainer admit that there was and is no need for a political union to be able to trade with out European cousins.

M4Dad · 11/10/2017 12:49

Apart from peace in Europe

The EU has given us peace in Europe, NATO has given us peace in Europe.

Melassa · 11/10/2017 12:49

The one thing I love about Brexit is that we've given the Elites a punch on the nose and I love that.

Gotta laugh. So, who are the proponents of The Leave campaign? A shady billionaire, an Eton educated buffoon, a dodgy City dealer who went to a hugely expensive private school.. and so on.

So, if these are not the elites, then who the fuck are?

RhiannonOHara · 11/10/2017 12:49

The one thing I love about Brexit is that we've given the Elites a punch on the nose and I love that.

Grin

Elites like Boris Johnson, who will be fine whatever the outcome? James Dyson, fabulously wealthy, who benefits from cheaper manufacturing by having his products made in the Far East? Paul Dacre? Nigel Farage, public-school product and ex-stockbroker?

RhiannonOHara · 11/10/2017 12:50

x-posted with everyone. Grin
