Where have all the Brexiters gone?

Just that really. 52% voted to leave. I know Mumsnet isn't completely representative of the electorate but you would expect at least a few people to be banging the Brexit drum. The ones that were quite vocal seem to have lost their voice. Perhaps they're just bored with the whole thing but their silence really is deafening.

Oh many of us have tried and tried to engage wisedad, but as Marcia points out, in typical MN remainer fashion, what has the EU got to do with Brexit?

They shout 'we have sovereignty', we show them we dont, and they run off.
They shout 'we have a veto', we show them we dont, and they run off.
They shout 'trade armageddon' and we show them the millions of non union goods that pass through the EU and the UK quite happily and unhindered, and they run off.
They shout 'youll all be unemployed' and we show them the EU youth unemployment figures, and they run off.
They shout, TMs a joke with no majority and a laughing stock, and we show them the other 18 EU nations in minority coalition governments. (Rather sweetly Merkel being the newest member of the dodgy coalition club).

They glaze over at the mention of trillions of QE by the ECB. They glaze over the shafting of Greece and the risks that entails. They glaze over Le Pen receiving more votes than TM. They glaze over details about corporate tax law. They run off wisedad because they wont consider for one tiny moment, that the EU is a crumbling undemocratic mess thats impolding due to appalling economic and social decisions forced on unwilling member states.

All of these things have to be demonstrated in extensive posts .....that they then complain about......then run off.

Lifes so much easier in remainer land, where leave voters are ignorant racists. Thats all they want to say.

PS Yes youre right about tariffs, but try explaining commodity codes, non union goods etc and how tariffs are applied on here...and theyll run off.

CardinalSin · 11/10/2017 23:34

Oh dear, a Leaver lecturing us on tariffs...

Carolinesbeanies · 12/10/2017 08:49

Ah, thats nice and quiet. Glad I could help. Grin
Heres something remainers really need to reflect on.

'Ah America, yes we'd love to have a trade deal with you. Here are our conditions;

All EU citizens have the right to come to your country and live and work there. Forever.

You must adopt our human rights laws and policies, and agree that our courts take ultimate precendence over your courts.

You must abide by EU rulings on all tax issues and agree to uniform tax rates. (We will of course be bringing in legislation within the next 5 years to specify how you then spend your tax revenues, and we will assume your agreement by silent acceptance of this)

You must agree to send 20,000 troops to join our european defence army. They must speak German and will be used to keep the peace in unruly EU states. (The spanish police were a little upset at the lack of support a couple of weeks back). Plus, weve been itching to have a go at the Turks, its a long story. If you dont send men, like Ireland wont, then we will charge you 2 billion a year to help us pay for our army.

You have too many people. So to balance what may be seen as an unbalanced proportional representation of Americans within the EU 'decision' making process, we are applying a new calculation to your population numbers and giving you 95 MEP seats. Germany has 96, and as we cant give you more than Germany (they sell us our Euros), 95 it is.

The Euro. You must adopt the Euro and then pass all monetary policy control to the ECB.

You must agree to never hold any referendum on any aspect of EU trade, law, policy, or membership. A few member states have tried that, and its a disaster for us, so we're banning them.

Finally, of course you can at some future point leave. We're not dictators. But all rights and laws included in this trade deal will remain. Forever.

In return, we'll buy your Ipads and Iphones. Its an OK product, but we dont really think EU citizens are that bothered about them.

Oh we can also offer Greece. Having crippled Greece by forcing punitive bailouts on them, we reckon youll be able to enjoy really cheap holidays there soon, that is, if all the accomodations arent filled with the migrants we're dumping back there. (PS Dont go to Spain, until we get an army, theyre getting touchy about tourists)

Love, The EU.

PS This is a 'no reply' mailing, as no one here actually has the authority to negotiate differently.

M4Dad · 12/10/2017 08:52

Ha ha. Excellent.

Yes, because we're exactly the same as USA aren't we? Hmm

  • We are as large as they are
  • We manufacturer as much as they do
  • We aren't heavily reliant on the export of services
  • We aren't geographically right next to the trading bloc we are leaving

Oh, hang on......

Peregrina · 12/10/2017 09:17

I could easily see the USA adopting exactly that stance:

You must accept our food standards - you can keep your own higher ones for yourselves if you want, but why spend the money.

You must contribute to our Army - but we will dress it up as NATO. You will join in whatever wars we decide to fight. Vietnam was something of an exception there, but even then Harold Wilson gave the Americans back door assistance.

You will adopt the dollar in every day usage. Note that a significant number of goods are already traded in dollars, like oil.

You already speak a sort of English, but with funny spellings. You will adopt our spellings as a matter of course, not just occasionally as now, but always.

You will become the 51st state. Etc.

CardinalSin · 12/10/2017 09:18

More delusions from the Leavers. They really don't understand the world, do they.

Bearbehind · 12/10/2017 09:30

More delusions from the Leavers. They really don't understand the world, do they.

Doesn't look like it?

I have a certain amount of 'respect' for posters like surferjet who genuinely don't give a shite what happens.

It's an appalling stance however, if you're only looking out for number one and know you'll be fine whatever happens and aren't operating under any illusion that it will all be rosy then I kind of get that.

What I'll never understand is the people who still think we will carry on as we were just without immigration.

frumpety · 12/10/2017 10:04

M4Dad genuine question , how has the brexit result given Soros , the Rothschilds and Kissinger a bloody nose ? How have they been financially impacted or otherwise by this vote ?

Carolinesbeanies · 12/10/2017 10:24

Youre right. Im deluded. EU citizens already buy iphones and ipads, what a stupid thing to suggest they need a trade deal to do so.

MichaelFabricantsHair · 12/10/2017 10:30

More delusions from the Leavers. They really don't understand the world, do they

That just makes you sound like a pontificating arsehat.
Further upthread it was insinuated that there was something wrong with being old, badly educated or poor. Well I may not have a degree, a career or even good health but I still had a vote that was equal to yours, despite being considered too thick and poor to participate in the referendum.

It's not a crime to not be an EU superfan.

Bearbehind · 12/10/2017 10:44

When will it sink in that Remainers aren't EU super fans?

It is rare in life you get to make the absolute best choice, it's more often you have to choose the least worst option.

Given we gave no fucking idea how leaving will work, because we are still assuming we can keep everything we like and we can't, I can't see how Remaining wasn't the least worst option.

MichaelFabricantsHair · 12/10/2017 10:48

When will it sink in that Remainers aren't EU super fans?

About the same time it sinks in that being thick and poor is not synonymous with lacking political engagement.

Bearbehind · 12/10/2017 10:57

that's just generalising again though michael

I did not believe anyone thinks the 'thick and poor' can't be politically engaged but when posters on these threads make comments that clearly show they haven't got a clue what they are talking about then I make an assumption about that person but don't think every leaver thinks like that.

I'm sure even you gave to admit there have been some very Hmm comments on these threads, from both sides.

Bearbehind · 12/10/2017 10:58

^^ Do not, not did not

Theworldisfullofidiots · 12/10/2017 11:16

I wish Mumsnet had a like button bear

histinyhandsarefrozen · 12/10/2017 11:52

M4Dad genuine question , how has the brexit result given Soros , the Rothschilds and Kissinger a bloody nose ? How have they been financially impacted or otherwise by this vote ?

I'd love to hear it too.

CardinalSin · 12/10/2017 12:13

To be honest, it's people like that and the disaster capitalists who financed the Leave campaign who stand to make fortunes out of the imminent depression, buying up cheap housing, industries etc., and selling them on in 10 or 20 years when our economy has struggled back up to 2009 levels or we've rejoined the EU

M4Dad · 12/10/2017 12:19

It's because they are the Uber Globalists. Obviously Soros isn't in the same league as the Rothschilds but there you go.

When people voted for Brexit it meant they valued sovereignty, identity and independence OVER money.

So yeah, a punch on the nose for the globalists.

CardinalSin · 12/10/2017 12:27

I suspect they didn't even notice your "punch", and they stand to make money from the idiocy of the decision.

Well done you.

M4Dad · 12/10/2017 12:30

Well done you

Thanks, I'm very proud of everyone who voted for Brexit. We voted for something more than materialism.

frumpety · 12/10/2017 12:33

M4Dad so Mr Soros , Uber Golabalist or hedge fund manager to give him his correct title , has been in no way impacted by the Brexit vote other than in your head ?

Brexit was a blow against the Globalists where people put ideals first and money second. Do you understand?
