Where have all the Brexiters gone?

Just that really. 52% voted to leave. I know Mumsnet isn't completely representative of the electorate but you would expect at least a few people to be banging the Brexit drum. The ones that were quite vocal seem to have lost their voice. Perhaps they're just bored with the whole thing but their silence really is deafening.

Bear I get what your saying, but since it's moving forward, can't you see that the EU stance is a bit one sided?
Don't you think they should be giving as well as taking?

A4Document · 11/10/2017 19:24

those responsible for making it happen don't even think it's the right thing to do, including TM, as demonstrated by her refusal to say she'd vote Leave now.

To be fair, she didn't say she'd vote remain again either....

MarciaBlaine · 11/10/2017 19:30

Why should the EU be giving anything? We said we wanted to leave. Now we want to cherry pick the nice bits without giving any guarantees to millions of EU citizens in UK and abroad and the people of NI and Gibraltar. It is a complete clusterfuck and I reserve my right to call anyone who cannot see this an idiot.

A4Document · 11/10/2017 19:32

Why would I want to sit here and see my children's future ruined?

You wouldn't. Likewise, the 52 per cent want their children's future not to be ruined by remaining. Leave voters had future generations in mind too.

mummmy2017 · 11/10/2017 19:37

We are divorcing them.
When you get a divorce, you work out how much your worth, the debts and the assets and work from there.
If you have dependants then you work out how to fund them.
You might want to make a deal over some things, it's not all just about the money is it?

Bearbehind · 11/10/2017 19:44

To be fair, she didn't say she'd vote remain again either....

Er, because she'd have lost her job immediately Hmm

MarciaBlaine · 11/10/2017 19:45

A4, but I have never in a year, seen a logical answer as to why anyone's future would be ruined by remaining. I presume you can give me a high level list?

Bearbehind · 11/10/2017 19:47

No I really can't.

They stated 3 things that need resolving and we haven't bothered our arse doing much about those thing, even though they do need dealing with as a matter of urgency.

How much more giving do you want them to do, other than roll over and let us carry on as we were before?

purits · 11/10/2017 19:50

They stated 3 things that need resolving

Why do they get to set the agenda? Typical EU bullying stance.

Bearbehind · 11/10/2017 19:51

Because they do actually need resolving.........

purits · 11/10/2017 19:54

Because they do actually need resolving.........

We'll do it at the same time as agreeing future trading terms. OK?

Bearbehind · 11/10/2017 19:55

No, because until those things are decided, the terms of a trade deal can't be determined.

We are so fucking arrogant it astounds me.

The EU really don't need us more than we need them.

mummmy2017 · 11/10/2017 19:56

But your playing both sides of this arguement.
We need to tell them how we are leaving..
But they tell us what we have to tell them...

Shouldn't it be a case of both sides coming together to work it not one bullying the other.

Bearbehind · 11/10/2017 20:00

The EU aren't bullying us.

We are leaving their club. They will carry on without us.

We don't have the upper hand here.

They can tell us to fuck off and we'll have a much bigger problem than they will.

The 3 points that need addressing need a solution and, as this is all our doing, there is an expectation we have an idea of how they can be addressed.

Sadly we haven't got a fucking clue unless it's carry on regardless.

Peregrina · 11/10/2017 20:03

If it’s such a headache for the government and it’s going to be an absolute nightmare for us all why did the tories even bother hold a referendum?

Because Cameron wanted to shut up his Eurosceptic wing, and/or not lose votes to UKIP, and never thought that he would lose. However, even if Remain had won, I doubt whether it would have shut them up. Only by trying to Brexit and making a complete pigs ear of it, will they shut up. They should at least have got one of their own in as PM, but they failed to do that, the obvious contender not bothering to put up for the post.

CardinalSin · 11/10/2017 20:04

Its not a divorce in any way, shape, or form. We have said we're leaving their club.

Why anyone thinks we thereby get to set any subsequent agenda is arrogance at it's highest which is the whole problem in the first place

mummmy2017 · 11/10/2017 20:06

The EU deal with loads of other countries world wide, and other countries don't have to jump through the hoops the EU wants the UK too.
But if their rules apply to their memebers in our country, why don't ours get to apply when we are in their countries.

OCSockOrphanage · 11/10/2017 20:09

No, the EU are not bullying us; just trying to insist that it's their way or the highway. There are auto manufacturers that are not German, Italian or French. People make wine and cheese outside Europe and some of it is very good. Vegetables are grown all over the world. We shall not starve or go without white goods not made in the UK.

Get real, the EU's main motive is to put the frighteners on, to discourage any other countries from leaving. Bit of an own goal to try to tell the Catalans that independence from Spain is not an option, and we'll fire rubber bullets at old people to prove it. Or am I just cynical about politicians who are reluctant to relinquish power over populations who no longer want what they are offering?

HipToBeSquare · 11/10/2017 20:12

Are you getting Spain, Catalan and the EU mixed up Confused

mummmy2017 · 11/10/2017 20:15

But Bear when you leave a club, you pay up to the end of the contract and walk away, you don't have to pay towards the Electric Bill for 2018.

OCSockOrphanage · 11/10/2017 20:15

I don't think so Grin. I was good at geography.

Bearbehind · 11/10/2017 20:18

But Bear when you leave a club, you pay up to the end of the contract and walk away, you don't have to pay towards the Electric Bill for 2018.

Which would be fine except we're planning on using their electricity indefinitely.

WiseDad · 11/10/2017 20:24

No, because until those things are decided, the terms of a trade deal can't be determined
Actually that is what the EU have said but it isn't a fundamental truth of international discussions. It is their restriction. It is perfectly possible to discuss the future relationship but the EU knows if they do their leverage for getting money is gone and they need the money. If they didn't need it they would move on.

The way this is seeming to work is bearbehind puts up a straw man and then resists any more engagement on detail. I thought we started something on the house moving analogy but didn't get anywhere.

The choice wasn't leave the EU or stay in a never changing EU by the way. This is something completely ignored by the Remain crowd who deliberately avoid this topic.

purits · 11/10/2017 20:25

Which would be fine except we're planning on using their electricity indefinitely.

I'm not with this. What 'electricity' are we talking about?

Bearbehind · 11/10/2017 20:26

I said how ridiculous I thought your house analogy was and you didn't reply- where was there to go from there?
