May's Speech Abbreviated:

We still have nfi how we are going to do this. EU this is your fault. You sort it out. We are too lazy, workshy and fighting like high school children to work it out ourselves. Be our whipping boy.

I support democracy as long as I get to do whatever I like
I support human rights as long as I can ignore them when I like.
I support the rule of law except when it doesn't suit my agenda.

Waffle waffle.

"Creative", "Dynamic" PR for my Premiership.

Waffle waffle

We really need policing cooperation, PLEASE keep it with us. I know I threatened to withdraw this, but I'm sorry, I was wrong and a bit of a dick about this.

Gets to the point FINALLY.

"2 year transition period"

(With another time bomb lock which is still too short for IT departments. Nothing to do with the next general election, honest).

RULE BRITANNIA!

Polite Applause.

Without an end to the racism visited on 'migrants' and upholding of GFA, to which she didn't refer overtly in her speech transition looks as unlikely as the original unicorns.

Triggering a50 was such a bad move.

Nigel Farage tells me Euro Parliament have not paid him MEP salary for several months now, cos of row over Ukip group use of Euro Parl funds

Violetparis · 22/09/2017 16:50

Meant to add, from what I've seen and heard on twitter and the news it appears that many leavers and Tory voters aren't happy either. What a shambles.

EternalOptimistToo · 22/09/2017 16:53

Barnier saying "Put your money where your mouth is". Grin

That's sounds about right!

Twofishfingers · 22/09/2017 16:53

It's like watching a 5 year old trying to participate to Masterchef.

Fuck.

A creative solution? I cannot believe they are still winging it. It has been over a year and they are still winging it. It was funny a year ago, not funny anymore. Meanwhile, the pound is taking another slide down - 'The pound is currently down against both the euro and the dollar. Losses against the dollar have accelerated, with the pound down 0.6% dipping just below the $1.35 mark. Against the euro, the pound is down 0.8% at €1.1275. '

Peregrina · 22/09/2017 16:56

Apart from Barnier's opening sentence, he basically reiterated what has already been said.
With regard to Ireland, the United Kingdom is the co-guarantor of the Good Friday Agreement. Today's speech does not clarify how the UK intends to honour its special responsibility for the consequences of its withdrawal for Ireland.

i.e. a solution for NI must be found.

Please MN, can we have a crocodile tears emoticon?

If this was May coming with the olive branch of showing that the UK is serious about finding an agreement, then many EU officials might feel that she has beaten them about the head with it. Grin

Cailleach1 · 22/09/2017 17:18

It isn't simply a row or spat over pay. Olaf in/was investigating them for alleged fraud.

Cailleach1 · 22/09/2017 17:23

Maybe 'misuse' is to fraud. Like 'misspoke' is to lie.

woman11017 · 22/09/2017 17:25

Like terrorist and president.

prettybird · 22/09/2017 17:28

I genuinely don't understand how she can claim on the one hand that setting up a bespoke UK Free Trade Deal will be easy and quick because our regulations will be aligned at the moment of Brexit and on the other say that the reason that we want to leave is because we want to be able to have the freedom to set our own regulations Confused

There is a real doublethink disjoint there - and no amount of "creativity" or "imaginative thinking" is going to be able to square that circle Confused

LurkingHusband · 22/09/2017 17:31

Seems the will of the people needs a jump start ...

Petition
Leave the EU immediately

The Government should walk away from the Article 50 negotiations and leave the EU immediately with no deal. The EU looks set to offer us a punishment deal out of spite. Why wait another 18 months when we could leave right away and fully take back control of our country, lawmaking powers and borders?

Did I read that she couldn't see why there had to be tariffs? Does she not understand what being a third country means?

On another thread, I have posted that it was always a joy when (invariably English) people told me how I should pronounce my foreign surname.

I suspect Theresa May would have been one of those.

Theworldisfullofidiots · 22/09/2017 17:50

I had to do TMs and JCs profile for a client day. She is practically the least creative person you could find.
Earlier in the week I did a session for 24 v senior leaders on influence. Not one of them thought she was a good leader.

Peregrina · 22/09/2017 17:55

I would love to see the profiles of both JC and TM.

Theworldisfullofidiots · 22/09/2017 18:07

I'll see if I can put up a link or a photo when I'm back from being a teenagers taxi

Peregrina · 22/09/2017 18:14

And she ruled out an ambitious free trade deal like the one the EU has with Canada - it would take too long and would ignore the fact that we start from a position where all our rules and regulations are the same.

This seems a nonsensical argument (no surprise there!) - if we already have rules and regulations which are the same then it should be quicker to strike a deal.

QuentinSummers · 22/09/2017 18:27

Following. Glad not to be having to decipher what that speech meant.

RedToothBrush · 22/09/2017 18:36

UKIP were given a deadline to repay money to the European Parliament weren't they?

They didn't.

Rule 1 of Bookkeeping: If someone owes you money and is refusing to pay it back, you sure as hell don't pay them for something else.

Why is anyone surprised?

I wonder what Farage will do about it? Take it to the ECJ? I hope they withhold his pension as well.
