Westminstenders: The Maddest of May and Boris's Dare

Boris Johnson just dared May to fire him.

That's what his little rant about £350 million buses is.

Meanwhile its been pointed out that HMRC literally are incapable of handling a no deal and can only cope with an EEA / EFTA deal with no tariffs.

And given how good and on time the government are with computer systems even in a best case scenario are extremely unlikely to crack it in time.

Which makes Hammond's talk of a civil contingence plan, look, well half arsed and lacking.

We also wouldn't have planes able to fly to Europe under a no deal as we would no longer be part of Open Skies. This could leave thousands stranded. But no biggie there.

Meanwhile if the Leave Alliance have things right, May is about to serve our one year notice on leaving the EEA making all these things a reality.

Which is less like shooting yourself in the head and more like shooting yourself in the head, chest, foot, arm, leg and face (for a second time), whilst being run over at the same time.

But hey, Boris Johnson has it sussed in his 10 point plan. Especially the point where he says Brexit will be a success.

If you call success ending democracy, becoming a dictatorship, starving everyone, bankrupting the country and causing civil unrest.

Rule Britannia.

Frankie Boyle's description of 45 as a 'fat bee in a greenhouse' made me chuckle.
DH was talking to a friend who's a consultant psychiatrist in older adults and he puts the chance of Donnie having early stage dementia at about 90%.
I keep trying to trace back to how Trump and Brexit happened. A few years ago, the idea of the US being led by a sociopathic narcissist with dementia and the UK being turned into a dictatorship and driven off a cliff would have seemed unimaginable.

There's your problem, right there.

Germany, Italy and Spain don't have to imagine what life is like under a fascist dictator. BTDTGTTS. And (once again) France was the battleground as well as having to deal with's its own schisms.

That said, it's illustrative to note that the UK/Great Britains stock around the world is not as high as people - most of whom have never left Britain - think it is. These will be people who don't realise that 2/3rds of the American constitution is a diatribe against the tyrant King. Which is someone anyone who is a US citizen will have learned. By heart.

MissHoolie - I've thought the same thing, having watched my mother develop early onset fronto-temporal dementia (albeit triggered by the recovery process from a head injury).

....the inability to cope with small slopes viz May holding his hand ..... the simplicity of his language compared to his previous interviews .... his toddler tantrums .... the way his jaw juts out even more than it used to

Seems the EU has really taken notice of this Florence speech. All the European papers are gushing as to how this will fix everything.

IT'S ALL OVER. WE WON !!!!!!

"Treasury talking down Brexit".

Supposedly tomorrow's Torygraph front page.

LurkingHusband · 21/09/2017 11:47

Not a good sign for Treeza, if the headline isn't about Florence.

RandomlyGenerated · 21/09/2017 11:47

Or even today's Torygraph front page Blush

PattyPenguin · 21/09/2017 11:55

"Treasury talking down Brexit" is the main headline on the Torygraph's website.

Though the sub-heading is "Officials fixated on negatives of leaving EU, says May ally Nick Timothy".

Easier to eye the haystack than the needle ....

RandomlyGenerated · 21/09/2017 12:05

Yes - it's Nick Timothy saying that officials aren't emphasising the positives of Brexit enough.

Well, if the Government were to publish the financial reports then we could see all the positives for ourselves then.

LurkingHusband · 21/09/2017 12:14

Yes - it's Nick Timothy saying that officials aren't emphasising the positives of Brexit enough.

There isn't a microscope big enough. And the closest thing that could do the job is currently deployed looking for Trumps brain.

thecatfromjapan · 21/09/2017 12:48

I wonder if the lack of transparency of the UK government with regard to it's population - and government - is also impacting on 'the UK's stock around the world'?

It surely must have been noticed that the government are not releasing reports with regard to the impact of Brexit + Brexit has resulted in a massive power seizure by government at the expense of Parliament.

That is not a good image or narrative.

thecatfromjapan · 21/09/2017 12:52

I rarely LOL but ...

LOL at the Telegraph scraping up Nick Timothy for that headline.

Couldn't sink much lower where DB works (very high tech sector) in the US. That's on the odd occasion they do think of the UK (which is rare).

I think the lack of attendance at TM's speech at the UN (cp Trump and Macron) is indicative of the UK's current perceived importance in world politics. Hmm and it can only go down

Brexit has made it into the dictionary. I think they could have used some better examples of its usage.

Icantreachthepretzels · 21/09/2017 13:29

How can the dictionary definition of a Brexiteer include a reference to Norway when everyone knows even mentioning the slightest hint of the Norway model is as big an act of treason as trying to blow up Westminster whilst assassinating the Queen and reminding people that, no, we didn't win the war all by ourselves?
No self respecting Brexiteer lauds Norway now! The brexiteers in the oed are practically saboteurs. Brexit means Brexit! The single market is treason. And they all voted for exactly that and knew what they were doing.

It seems the Oed is unaware that history has been rewritten. It had better watch itself.

Once again, I think the UK is victim to the nature of the English language ... not everyone speaking English in the world is talking about the English ....
