Westminstenders: The Maddest of May and Boris's Dare

RedToothBrush · 16/09/2017 22:43

Boris Johnson just dared May to fire him.

That's what his little rant about £350 million buses is.

Meanwhile its been pointed out that HMRC literally are incapable of handling a no deal and can only cope with an EEA / EFTA deal with no tariffs.

And given how good and on time the government are with computer systems even in a best case scenario are extremely unlikely to crack it in time.

Which makes Hammond's talk of a civil contingence plan, look, well half arsed and lacking.

We also wouldn't have planes able to fly to Europe under a no deal as we would no longer be part of Open Skies. This could leave thousands stranded. But no biggie there.

Meanwhile if the Leave Alliance have things right, May is about to serve our one year notice on leaving the EEA making all these things a reality.

Which is less like shooting yourself in the head and more like shooting yourself in the head, chest, foot, arm, leg and face (for a second time), whilst being run over at the same time.

But hey, Boris Johnson has it sussed in his 10 point plan. Especially the point where he says Brexit will be a success.

If you call success ending democracy, becoming a dictatorship, starving everyone, bankrupting the country and causing civil unrest.

Rule Britannia.

That Times article is actually hilarious and cuts Boris Johnson into little bits. A particular highlight was the painting of BJ's bouncy enthusiasm for Trump's anarchic administration being sadly diminished after Charlottesville. Ouch.

The knives are well and truly out. I think the whole "BJ, the brilliance behind the clown" thing is well and truly over. It's now "Johnson: the slithery opportunist whose clownishness hides a deeper stupidity."

Badders08 · 18/09/2017 12:36

That dave and sam tweet has made really quite angry

Badders08 · 18/09/2017 12:36

...only info I have is linked in tweet

MichaelFabricantsHair · 18/09/2017 12:41

Bigchoc I'm sorry you had an awful experience with your mum Flowers

Without going into too much detail we turned up to visit my DB one afternoon and he had a black eye and fingerprint bruises on his upper arm. Sadly DB can't verbalise and has anterograde amnesia so couldn't tell us what had happened. All a doctor could say was that he had bruising not consistent with a clotting disorder.

The carer was moved, but only on the technicality of 'not documenting a seizure' Hmm and still to this day works unsupervised with vulnerable adults.

So I do understand and again I'm sorry your mum had to experience such dreadful care.

MichaelFabricantsHair · 18/09/2017 12:42

We know deep down the injuries weren't caused by a seizure btw but couldn't prove it.

thecatfromjapan · 18/09/2017 12:42

Go on, Badders, elucidate why it makes you so angry.

I think we all know that a. 'Dave' and 'Sam' (because, like, they are so down-home and intimate and friendly) were and are 'remainers' b. Dave never thought for a minute the vote would go the way it did.

So, go on, share. Grin

Is it the arrogance? The crass irresponsibility? The fact that they, personally, will be cushioned against the fall-out?

You know you'll feel better if you use your words ... Grin

Peregrina · 18/09/2017 12:42

I won't shed too many any tears for the Camerons. Their money will go a long way to insulating them from the shit storm that Brexit will bring on the rest of us.

Badders08 · 18/09/2017 12:45

Cat...i cant.
It would just be gutteral sounds bad words...

Badders08 · 18/09/2017 12:45

Really sorry to hear these experiences of the exploitation of vulnerability.

This thread makes me feel sane, amongst friends, hopeful.

I feel sad that these things have happened to you.

prettybird · 18/09/2017 13:02

My dad (80 and very healthy and active - still cycles and gallivants regularly on long haul holidays Smile) has already said he will take himself to Dignitas once he feels he is losing his faculties. Sad

We watched my mum die of early onset fronto-temporal dementia, brought on by a head injury while cycling. I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy Sad She spent that last 2 years in a home (which was actually very good and caring) and she hated every minute, as she wasn't "old" and she still had her memories Sad(because it wasn't Alzheimer's).

Horrible Sad. She gradually lost the ability to walk, control her movements and even had difficulty talking (some aphasia). She eventually stopped eating - and we stopped forcing her to do so Sad

Badders08 · 18/09/2017 13:03

I know this is really sad but I am really glad that social media has made the sharing of these stories easier. I find it helpful (my parents are ageing; I will in time) and it's a real change to hear this and to know about what will inevitably be something I will deal with too.

Flowers to all of you.

thecatfromjapan · 18/09/2017 13:13

You know, there is so much pressure on businesses and 'business leaders' to maintain a silence about the impact of Brexit - future and present - which is (for most) pretty negative, that it really should be flagged up as part of the story when businesses/business leaders go public.

I'm thinking of John Lewis here, and others.

We know that businesses have been told to keep negativity to themselves or risk being excluded from access to government but I'm not sure that's true with the general public. When businesses get so frustrated and worried that they go public, that should be part of the story, rather than a focus on 'X business says profits are down as a result of Brexit'. The other part of the story is that they've given up with the silent acquiescence + access approach because they are truly alarmed.

SunSeptember · 18/09/2017 13:16

On the tangent I am another who worked in care home as a teen, I am also heading to Swiss clinic if I live that long. We need radical over haul of care for elderly... it's hidden away people don't grasp what actually happens until it's too late and your in it. The legislature for dignitas stuff is all there it's just moral ethics that's needs to be worked out. You wouldn't treat a dog how we treat elderly and at end of life expect people to trundle on indefinitely in pain. It's awful

Guy in charge of brexit just quit...

story has disappeared without trace on the BBC. Interesting, since it was the BBC that seemed to break it.

Regarding the Europol stance ....

would I be correct in surmising that interaction with Europol is overseen by the ECJ ?

HashiAsLarry · 18/09/2017 13:26

Flowers to all those currently caring or having experienced the bad side.

Our experience with homes was slightly different, although there was some issues with property theft and some rough handling which the home always dealt with very rapidly often before we'd complain.

In the main, gms carers were wonderful and put up with a torrent of abuse from her mainly of the racist variety Sad. One of the best carers in the home used to look after her most often when others would refuse mainly because of my sister and I standing up for the carer. Well not her particularly, but Muslim folk in general. The lady nearly wet herself when we pointed out to gm that the Muslim carers probably weren't trying to kill her as homes are quite a high drain on tax incomes and doing us a fiscal favour wasn't high on a jihadis priority list Grin

thecatfromjapan · 18/09/2017 13:28

LurkingHusband It's popped up again on my Twitter fed, via the Independent and Vince Cable.

The BBC are somewhat ... disappointing ... in their Brexit coverage.
