Back from the dead, May carries on whilst the vultures circle.

She had tried to out smart her rivals by running of to the palace to tell the queen she could form a government before they could act.

Definitely she stood and pretended nothing had changed. Except everything had. The wrath of her party was unleashed and there was open revolt. She has been summoned to appear before men in grey suits tomorrow at 5pm to hear their verdict.

How do she decide to make amends and reach out to moderate Tories? By sleeping with the DUP. And appointing Gove to her Cabinet.

How long will this last? How long can it last?

In all seriousness, if she resigns or is forced out in the next 24 hours, does that mean the DUP deal is off the table? Or could it be the beginning of a Boris/DUP dystopian nightmare?

Artisanjam · 12/06/2017 06:46

I don't think the dup deal would automatically be dead if TM was replaced, but her replacement may feel it's better to lead a minority government than deal with the dup.

DumbledoresApprentice · 12/06/2017 06:54

I think the DUP are going to be needed at least informally even if a formal agreement falls through.

Delta and Bank of America boycott 'Julius Caesar' play starring Trump-like character
Production of Shakespeare epic in New York’s Central Park shows a suited, blond-haired Caesar with a Slavic-accented wife dressed in designer clothes

Now on at Stratford, enjoyable production. Smile

Gove banned all non British born writers from the GCSE English Literature syllabus. He hates Steinbeck too. I can't think why.

I wonder how long it will be before immigrant's son and closet Catholic William Shakespeare is taken off.

lamado · 12/06/2017 07:03

Surely the tories know they need a new leader, but want to avoid an election at all costs. Once Brexit negotiations start it's easier for them to argue that in would not the right timing for an election. So she's safe for a week at least. No way she could get through a party conference.

BestIsWest · 12/06/2017 07:05

I did a double take at that article - it claims NI has a population of 18 million.
It's 1.8.

TM 2016: we must respect the will of the people
TM 2017: fuck the people, they're idiots

woman12345 · 12/06/2017 07:12

BestisWest I think it's a wee bit tongue in cheek:

Our most famous tourist attraction is the Gigantic Causeway – a huge stone structure formed in 4000 BC during the Great Flood.

The most famous Northern Irish actor ever is Eamonn Holmes, who has appeared in movies like Taken, Taken 2 and Fifty Shades of Grey

BestIsWest · 12/06/2017 07:16

Grin I almost believed it !

boldlygoingsomewhere · 12/06/2017 07:20

Morning,

Just waiting to see what today brings!

Loved that very tongue in cheek NI article. Smile

WeakAndUnstable · 12/06/2017 07:21

Yes, the reversing fortunes of the "will of the people" mantra is one of my favorite things.

But someday soon, likely this week, we'll need to crack on with a Greatest Hits list recently amusing moments (with a catchier name, obvs).

Because since Thursday 10pm, I've laughed more than I have in the entirety of last year (post 23 June). And that doesn't look like stopping any time soon Grin

Peregrina · 12/06/2017 07:25

Placemarking here - but the old thread is not quite finished yet, so still posting there, to answer other's points.

I couldn't but help think of the Carnival float - May shooting herself in the head over Brexit, and then the float fell to pieces in the wind. Life imitates art, indeed!

ClashCityRocker · 12/06/2017 07:29

We live in interesting times.

pointythings · 12/06/2017 07:45

Weak I haven't stopped smiling yet either !

HashiAsLarry · 12/06/2017 07:49

Judging by what I've seen this morning, with Ruth and Nicola apparently not being happy with a proposed dup deal we have to give TM some credit. She appears to have temporarily united scotland. Against her mind you, but she's achieved it Grin

citroenpresse · 12/06/2017 08:01

May and the 22 committee can discuss her management style all they want but the problem is not how she implements policy but that she doesn't have any policy at all.

The feared domino effect for the EU - once the UK leaves, so will everyone else, appears to be working in reverse. France and Germany are just gaining in strength. Our negotiating position is getting weaker all the time.

citroenpresse · 12/06/2017 08:09

Do your children (aged 11) read 50 books a year? That was the recommended Gove rate (not exactly a joined-up policy with the closure of libraries). He also axed To Kill a Mockingbird. That's still standard for learners of English in Dutch schools.

flippinada · 12/06/2017 08:16

Placemarking for later. Love the title.

50 books a year?
Lol even dc1 who is an avid reader doesnt read 50 boos a year. Thats one a week!!

PinkPeppers · 12/06/2017 08:23

Tbh on the eu pov, seeing the mess created by brexit (and that weve just proved again with this election), we are actually demonstrating nicely that leaving the eu isnt an easy task at all!
If anything this will convince people that working together is the right way.
