Westministenders: Strong and Stable Theresa Date with Destiny

WELLLLL

Its just before 2.00am.

So far its the YouGov model all the way. Still a long way to go but, the Cons are not getting the top of their target list and Labour are doing very well in seats they just 'shouldn't be'.

Corbyn is now favourite to take the poison chalice of Brexit, but they may not be the largest party yet.

This is looking right now like 1974 not 1983.

May's potted regardless. I look forward to her resignation speech. Its still entirely possible that our next government is a Tory Minority under another leader.

The LDs are having a rough night so far. They are loosing deposits all over the place as they are squeezed out. But they still might hold the balance of power yet. Though they are pledged not to go into coalition.

Another election in the autumn? Brexit delayed and going soft and squishy?

Red I returned from the count a couple of hours ago - it was a Long night. I have copied over your prediction from the previous thread:
Election Data‏**@election**_data
My projection for tomorrow is:
Con 387
Lab 186
SNP 51
LD 4
Plaid 3
Greens 1
Conservative majority of 124

I am so glad you were wrong on this. (This is being said in a nice way, not gloating). To think that Theresa May with a small but workable majority would throw it away is almost unbelievable. At best she has wasted 8 weeks which could have been spent working on Brexit. For us in Oxford West and Abingdon, we had the delightful result of overturning a majority of something like 9700, for one of 816. It didn't quite go to a recount - it required a rechecking of the bundles and one had been miscounted, which did take some votes away. A bonus!
I am so glad that Corbyn proved them wrong, after all the vilification he has had.

Ed Vaisey, the winning Tory candidate for Wantage (where Tory votes are weighed) also counted in the same hall, said an interesting thing - that May no longer had a mandate for the hard -Brexit she had been seeking.

WeakAndUnstable · 09/06/2017 07:44

Yes, I've read the Torygraph. Or as we call it here, "The Posh Sun" Smile

PattyPenguin · 09/06/2017 07:45

Elements surely not! How could that be possible in a sane world? I'm shocked, I tell you, shocked.

BigChocFrenzy · 09/06/2017 07:46

May had an open goal, but she personally lost it.

She based the election entirely on herself, her leadship ... her ego.
Then ol' Strong & Stable bottled out of all debate

imo, many voters decided she was Cowardly & Chicken

Her prestige is down the toilet
The party probably need her to stay - a leadership election would waste yet more time and probably weaken any minority govt

HashiAsLarry · 09/06/2017 07:47

Very important news

@gregknight
I am back too. New video under consideration!

WeakAndUnstable · 09/06/2017 07:47

Peregrina if we're recalling election predictions, now seems a good time to remind the world that on p8 of the last thread I predicted a hung parliament HaloGrin

BigChocFrenzy · 09/06/2017 07:48

Redwood on now - incredible !
He's taking having the most seats and the Liberal performance as "a very strong mandate for Brexit" Shock

RedToothBrush · 09/06/2017 07:49

Turnout for 18 - 25 year olds in 2015: 43%
Turnout for 18 - 25 year olds in 2017?

SEVENTY TWO PER CENT.

I've just heard.

Tell that to the nameless Conservative MAP who laughed saying they never get off 'their lazy arses to vote'.

You just got spanked for your contempt of the young and good bloody job.

Oi May U-turn now! Resign you hopeless excuse for a politician. Grr Goldsmith.

Now more Zzz

HashiAsLarry · 09/06/2017 07:50

Whoever the guck runs this show in the end, there's one fact. There's no mandate for brexit unless ignore the elephant in the room is a policy.

BestIsWest · 09/06/2017 07:52

#kevinmaguire So Theresa May's not resigning? We're all old enough to remember when she wasn't having an election. It was only two months ago

lalalonglegs · 09/06/2017 07:52

Just had a lovely thought: this must mark the end of Lynton Crosby Smile

BiglyBadgers · 09/06/2017 07:53

Wow! I am so thrilled by that youth turnout. Hurrah for them. Let's see the conservatives start pandering to the young a bit more Grin

CivQueen · 09/06/2017 07:54

72% for the young vote!!!

No matter what else, that is in itself incredible.

Way to go Jezza!!!!!!!

I would like to ask all the PLP members, who are going on about not getting too excited as labour haven't got a majority, whether they think that their constant undermining and trying to get rid of Corbyn might have contributed to that lack of majority in some way. Hmm

RedToothBrush · 09/06/2017 07:56

This is 60% leave

#GE2017: St Ives:
Con: 43.2% (+4.9)
LDem: 42.6% (+9.4)
Lab: 14.2% (+4.9)
No UKIP and Green as prev.

Bigly - I may well put that question to my own (decent, hardworking but anti-Corbyn) Labour MP

boldlygoingsomewhere · 09/06/2017 08:00

What news to wake up to! Even if May resigns, who on earth would take over leadership? It's all a bit of a poisoned chalice.

Part of me wishes someone would have the balls to say that the country isn't stable enough to negotiate Brexit and the whole thing should be stopped. Extremely unlikely I know but I can dream. Smile

RedToothBrush · 09/06/2017 08:01

Martin Schulz
Just talked to Jeremy Corbyn on the phone. We agreed to meet very soon.

bigchoc deadwood didnt just claim mandate for brexit - he actually claimed mandate for leaving single market . No one picked him up on it.

CivQueen · 09/06/2017 08:02

I hope the PLP are tucking into their humble pie just as much as the conservatives are.

Just imagine what Corbyn could have done with their support instead of having to fend the knives off.

RedToothBrush · 09/06/2017 08:02

Lab did not want to win this election. No matter how crazy that sounds.
