WELLLLL

Its just before 2.00am.

So far its the YouGov model all the way. Still a long way to go but, the Cons are not getting the top of their target list and Labour are doing very well in seats they just 'shouldn't be'.

Corbyn is now favourite to take the poison chalice of Brexit, but they may not be the largest party yet.

This is looking right now like 1974 not 1983.

May's potted regardless. I look forward to her resignation speech. Its still entirely possible that our next government is a Tory Minority under another leader.

The LDs are having a rough night so far. They are loosing deposits all over the place as they are squeezed out. But they still might hold the balance of power yet. Though they are pledged not to go into coalition.

Another election in the autumn? Brexit delayed and going soft and squishy?

Oh I am grateful to Corbyn, but that doesn't mean I'm going to suddenly think he's amazing. He does deserve a chance now though, he has bloody well earned i, but I want to see him follow through with his rhetoric in parliament, I want him to put a good team around him and I want him to start working properly with his party. THEN I'll rate him as a leader. This election will hopefully bring the party together, partly because Corbyn has proved his metal, and nullified some of the questions around him (trident, Ira etc).

I still think the Labour Party should have won this by a landslide though- have we ever seen a Tory party as weak as this?! Very, very happy that labour have done better than expected though and happy to have been proved wrong on Corbyn.

Bolshybookworm · 09/06/2017 07:16

As much as I dislike him, I would take Corbyn over may any day.

BiglyBadgers · 09/06/2017 07:17

Some of them are beyond stupid though Bigly.

This is true. Hopefully everyone else will just roll their eyes and politely ignore them now. Grin

Robert Peston @Peston
.@johnmcdonnellMP says Labour wants to form a minority government and challenges SNP, Green and LibDems to support it. Woooooo

ElenaGreco123 · 09/06/2017 07:21

Bolshy You have just summed my view on Corbyn. Flowers

My nice Labour MP has increased her majority to 19,000.

HashiAsLarry · 09/06/2017 07:21

Any mucking around now and trying to unseat Corbyn with a coup again would be beyond stupid.
I've noticed there's a lot less anti Corbyn rhetoric coming from labour MPs at the moment. I mean those who have been quite public with their despair previously aren't exactly singing his praises, but more politely stfu about it. Hopefully there'll be a larger pool of people for Jc to pick from again.

RhythmAndStealth · 09/06/2017 07:22

I think the more appropriate phrase is "Well done Jeremy" Bolshy. You don't have to think he's amazing. But I do think somewhat less qualified praise would be warranted than that which you are offering.

He's proved his mettle under friendly fire, in enemy territory with a hugely hostile press.

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 09/06/2017 07:27

Robert Peston @Peston
I think there's good chance @theresa_may will not stand down. Ministers urging her not to, citing her 43% share of vote, up from Cam's 36%

PattyPenguin · 09/06/2017 07:30

It's all very well JC proving his mettle against opponents, he's been doing that his entire career.

I'm another who is convinced he will not be able to run a government*, because he can't handle the practicalities.

*particularly not a minority government, where you have to horse-trade and negotiate with allies - you can't strong-arm entirely separate parties.

PattyPenguin · 09/06/2017 07:31

It would be great if Treeza didn't stand down. With any luck that would tear the Tory party into shreds.

lalalonglegs · 09/06/2017 07:32

I suspect you are right, Patty, but let's celebrate him for today at least Smile. By anyone's standards, he has pulled off an absolute blinder.

Bolshybookworm · 09/06/2017 07:32

I have said well done! Has he won though, or did I miss that?

ElenaGreco123 · 09/06/2017 07:33

Rhythm Corbyn is fantastic at campaigning, but he has a lot to prove in terms of running an organisation on a day to day basis. You have to make compromises when you represent the whole of the party, and he is getting better at it.
Well done, Corbyn! Wine

Red was right about Tynemouth. 12,000 majority for Labour.

So has Treeza chained herself to the radiator? Osborne is having such fun.

lalalonglegs · 09/06/2017 07:34

Theresa May has "no intention" of resigning" - Laura K Shock Shock Shock

Bolshybookworm · 09/06/2017 07:34

I agree with Lala, and am happy to celebrate today, but don't think it's fair to tear people down for having very well-founded doubts. Let's celebrate together, get on with it and show what can be done!

PattyPenguin · 09/06/2017 07:35

So, when will Treeza do the U turn on resigning? Please, Treez, don't do it for a bit, I want to see your party go frothing, raving mad.

Bolshybookworm · 09/06/2017 07:35

Grown-up politics ftw!

pointythings · 09/06/2017 07:37

Well, I never thought it would happen but I am having Wine tonight... Let's hope we can now avoid car crash Brexit.

BiglyBadgers · 09/06/2017 07:37

I still think the Labour Party should have won this by a landslide though- have we ever seen a Tory party as weak as this?

I don't think this was ever going to happen. The Tories started with a huge predicted majority and everything on their side. It takes time for public opinion to swing on that scale and this was a snap election with only 6 weeks for labour to make that happen. The fact that in that time they have achieved what they have is phenomenal. Given another month or two I think a labour majority could have been possible, but nobody could have shifted it that far in 6 weeks.

BigChocFrenzy · 09/06/2017 07:39

Wow, I've just caught up with the threads
Incredible news !

Grim that evil shit Davies hung on though - I was so happy at the fake news

BigChocFrenzy · 09/06/2017 07:40

Many thanks red for staying awake most of the night and giving us a new thread, when the ink is not dry on the old one Flowers
I hope you can have a sofa day

ElenaGreco123 · 09/06/2017 07:42

Had anyone else seen the Torygraph website? Ok, so they have been going through a breakdown lately, but today they are losing it. Their undertone is that May (perhaps deliberately) sabotaged Brexit with the election. I am not kidding.

TheElementsSong · 09/06/2017 07:42

Having caught up with various threads this morning... Is it just me, or is there some overlap between the people who:

  • Re Brexit were all about the immutable and eternal Will of the People in their ineffable wisdom who should thus never be questioned again, and were apparently thrilled about the consequent instablity being a leap of faith into the unknown;

and

  • Re this GE are deeply concerned about the harrowing instability and uncertainty for the country, and feel that The People have been foolish and ill-informed, and ought to be asked again until they give the correct answer?
BiglyBadgers · 09/06/2017 07:43

Funny that isn't it Elements Wink
