I was thinking about how I could sum up the general election campaign and well. This said it all.

Irrationally annoyed by local Tory MP who sends election propaganda to the three male voters in our household and nothing to me.

I'm not voting for him anyway, so there!

WeakAndUnstable · 07/06/2017 13:51

OK it's time to chill, people.

I'm calling it here and now: hung parliament resulting in Labour & Lib Dems taking control.

Phew that's a relief. We can all relax again Wine

I'm working very hard on lowering my expectations, but the one thing I have learned in the past year is that there's no limit to how low I'm going to need my expectations to go.

lalalonglegs · 07/06/2017 14:11

You're right, Elements - do you remember those innocent days a year ago when we never imagined a British government would drive the country headlong into an economic and social car-crash just to maintain the veneer of party unity. Happy times...

BigChocFrenzy · 07/06/2017 14:14

motheroffourdragons 'Dozens of discussions' apparently being held with fintech companies moving to NL according to my nltimes feed also. There's a cap on banker bonuses in NL (hurray) so no doubt there will be discussions about whether that only applies to Dutch banks. New international schools being built at this very moment in anticipation.

WeakAndUnstable · 07/06/2017 14:44

And re NL, don't forget the 30% ruling, which most of these soon-to-be skilled expats will qualify for. This setting aside of 30% gross salary prior to any income tax being applied tends to be either 1) given totally to employee or 2) shared with the employer and used to offset relocation costs. Either way, it can result in a very cheap relocation for the company which is also rather attractive to the employee from a tax perspective. This benefit lasts for up to 10 years. And it's all in juicy Euros Smile

NL will do very well enticing international and UK brains out of post-Brexit Britain, I guess.

It looks like everyone is now working on the assumption that the UK will leave with no deal at all :(:(

PinkPeppers Labour have stated they will be negotiating for the benefits of the single market (which may be driving company relocation plans). Presumably there will be a price on that, but it might well be a price worth paying. If Tories have to pay ANYTHING, their right wing will be baying. The EU have made it explicitly clear there will be no cherry picking but the Tories have ruled out so many options because of this very rigid and empty approach so it's hard to see what they will be able to negotiate on anyway. There is no plan. It seems that May is quite prepared to just walk away. Unbelievably irresponsible.

I think the 'no deal' is the plan tbh

TheElementsSong · 07/06/2017 15:13

Gorgeous flower woman!

citroenpresse · 07/06/2017 15:20

When Liam Fox and David Davis were appointed as chief Brexiteers, I thought how clever of May. As a remainer, she's put prominent leavers in jobs where they'll have to put up or shut up. There's no plan - who knows what they've been up to. Fox is totally silent in this campaign. The hostile, infantile language is awful. Treating the EU as the enemy - these are our allies and trading partners.

Ms May posed for selfies with butchers wearing their bloodied white coats.

A metaphor old Shakespeare would have been proud of. Grin

Risk averse international investors are now targeting the E.U., according to Reuters, with clauses that the U.K. be excluded in advance of Brexit.

Peregrina · 07/06/2017 15:51

We won't be able to just walk away. There will be a huge amount of money to pay. She might not like it, nor will her far right comrades but we will have to pay to leave

We will end up paying significantly more, for a much worse deal, IMO.

- well I don't know what the alternative is. War ?
Some form of civil war maybe as those non wealthy non Tory Leave voters realise how well and truly shafted they have been?

BigChocFrenzy · 07/06/2017 15:52

No, of course not a war, mother
Not even economic war, just a crashing sound as the UK economy falls down the cliff
