I was thinking about how I could sum up the general election campaign and well. This said it all.

Ha ha, I knew someone would mention a march. I probably need to create a chart of optimum gathering sizes cross referenced with marches.

Peregrina · 06/06/2017 22:30

The GFA relies on the EHCR so she can't just walk away from it without destroying the GFA.
She makes a big song and dance about this two days before an election when she's on the back foot with her track record on security.

Part of me hopes that she behaves stupidly enough to try this, and then sees what sort of reception she gets with the rest of the world when she shows she is happy to rip up international treaties.

Peregrina · 06/06/2017 22:34

The Women's Marches seemed to go OK, though.
As did our March for Europe on 25th March. 100,000 of us marching peacefully, with no arrests made, and people giving flowers to the Police. There was quite a joyful atmosphere.

Thanks for the new thread Red!

I agree.

Of course, going back to why would Remainers vote Labour, they pledge to unilaterally guarantee the rights of EU residents before talks start. So, they start off from the position of putting people first.

I'm a labour voting remainer
I may have voted lib dem had they not fielded a brexiter candidate

Watched Diane Abbott tonight on Skynews. She looks a very sick lady on medication. Let's hope that she has not got a severe illness. I do hate all the stone throwing by media and politicians on somebody who is very vulnerable.

Peregrina · 06/06/2017 22:47

The snap election is probably what brought this about - the candidates were chosen a year earlier, before the Referendum result came about. Once the election was called there was no chance of replacing them, unless the Prospective candidate chose to stand down. So probably the question of how they would vote in the Referendum wasn't a consideration.

As for voting - it depends where you live. In my constituency a LibDem vote will help to get the Tories out, but we don't expect to get a decisive number of seats. Although Labour's stance is not what LibDems want, they are expected to be more humane with their policies. In other places, a Labour vote would be the best.

This. Labour voting Remainer here too.

HesterThrale · 06/06/2017 22:57

It seems 75 Tory candidates have failed to turn up at their constituency hustings. Worried about facing tricky questions?

I wonder if as many of the other party hopefuls have been no-shows?

Particularly important to me!

Two FB friends reported they registered to vote, queried why they haven't received their polling cards and have now been told they 'can't be identified'. Scary stuff.

May might consider curfews, visiting controls - sources

Theresa May has confirmed tonight she'd consider longer prison sentences for terror offences, more stringent rules on deporting those who espouse terror, and new controls on those who are seen as a potential threat even if there is not evidence to take them to court.

Sources suggest if elected on Friday, Theresa May might consider ideas of curfews, controls on who people can visit and suspects' access to communications.

Tomorrow's headlines are mainly that JC is a terrorist.

And this is a tough, but probably accurate read:

In 7 General Elections as anchor @Channel4News, after weeks of requests,Theresa May is the first serving PM to refuse me an interview why?

squoosh · 07/06/2017 00:18

Because she feels more comfortable doing simpering ITV interviews where she reminisces about rebelliously running through wheat fields...

Dh just caught the news about TM and her reduction of human rights. He rolled his eyes and asked 'so when is she planning on building the death Star?' Grin

Thank you so much those who commented on why they as Remainers are going to vote Labour as opposed to Lib Dem.

I'm still voting Lib Dem (am in Tory sage seat anyway) but it has really made me feel much better...far less isolated in my remaining passion that Brexit is the clusterfuck of the century.

HashiAsLarry · 07/06/2017 07:55

weak I didn't answer because I shall be voting lib dem in a safe Tory seat too. However if it wasn't, and there was a chance Labour would make it I would have tactically voted. For the rights of eu citizens and because I'd rather have starmer in charge out there.

Moussemoose · 07/06/2017 08:01

Tories making ambiguous statements about human rights the day before and election.

Worst kind of dog whistle politics. Absolutely shameful.

This is where the dog whistle drives me nuts.

I am born of foreign parentage, not quite of the religion of this land. My foreign side were the terror threat once. I have family members closely ties with people who it later turned out were associated with the terror groups. I have visited that country many times and I have also been to the country who massively funded those terrorists too.

trump Ira fundraiser - 2 days old but worthy of note

Shall I sign my own deportation papers? Also, where do I go?

The flip side of this of course is I've worked nhs and local government. I campaign for both. I fundraiser where possible. Ive never dodged taxes and until I became a sahm always worked.

It's possible to fit into both camps, but most importantly I've never knowingly funded or supported terror in any forms.

woman12345 · 07/06/2017 08:09

I think these 'dog whistles' were packed and ready to go today, anyway, but it feels like it is in particularly poor taste after what's happened on the last 3 weeks.

Even at the height of the 'troubles'/ Irish war, there was a discreet 'gentleman's agreement' not to jeopardise national security by this sort of rhetoric. It sets a troubling precedent.
