Westministenders: Theresa's Common People

She came from Oxfordshire she had a thirst for knowledge
She studied geography at Saint Hugh's College
That's where politics
Caught her eye

She told them that her husband was loaded
The press barons said "In that case have a rum and coca-cola"
She said "Fine"
And in thirty seconds time she said

I want to look like common people
I want to do whatever common people do
I want to eat like common people
I want to sleep like common people
Like you

Well what else could Fiona and Nick do
They said "We'll see what we can do"

They took her to a supermarket
I don't know why
But they had to start it somewhere
So it started there
They said pretend you've got no money
She just laughed and said
"Oh you're so funny"
They smiled "Yeah”
Well we can't see anyone else smiling in here

Are you sure you want to live like common people
You want to see whatever common people see
You want to eat like common people
You want to sleep like common people
Like me

But she didn't understand
She just smiled and held Trump’s hand

Order that benefits get the chop
Tell them all to get a job
Promise to bring back the grammar school
Pretend you don’t think them a fool
But still you'll never get it right
'Cause when you're laid in bed at night
Watching the news talking about building the wall
All have to do is call your mates to fake it all

You'll never live like common people
You'll never do whatever common people do
You'll never fail like common people
You'll never watch your life slide out of view
Whilst you blame it all on the EU
Because that’s all you can do

Sing along with the common people
Sing along and it might just get Brexit through
Laugh along with the common people
Laugh about leaving the EU

It’s the most stupid thing that you will do
Because you think that it is cool
You’ll call them a ‘lying foreigner’
But don’t say we didn’t warn you
You’ll regret saying we are better off out
'Cause everybody hates a benefits tourist

It doesn’t matter if you can’t do the math
With all those pockets that you grease
You’ll win the vote in Bath

You will never understand
How it feels to live your life
With no meaning or control
And with nowhere left to go
You are amazed that they exist
And wish they were all white
So you tell ‘The Big Lie’

Get THE flat above THE shop
Cut your hair and get THE job
Trick some mugs and hire some fool
Pretend you are not really cruel
But still you'll never get it right
Instead you're plotting late at night
About which ‘cockroach’ will take the fall
All have to do is call your mates to fake it all
Yeah

You'll never live like common people
You'll never do what common people do
You'll never fail like common people
You'll never watch your life slide out of view
As we plan to leave the EU
Because there's nothing else left to do

But ‘moan’ about how we don’t want to leave the EU.

"Libertarian" has nothing to do with left or right. It is anti-state control of the individual, which may be either left or right.

The 2D refers to
horizontal axis = left right (economic)
vertical axis = authoritarian libertarian

This is another 2D map example of famous dead political figures from around the world

The GE map is of the party leaders, not the voters or the manifesto

I've just done it - this is mine...
Left Libertarian (but voting blue this time, and voted for Brexit - so doesn't fit really!)

Motheroffourdragons: I believe Yorkhill is now the ambulatory care centre for the North/West of the city (with the closure if the Western); the Sick Kids is now at the Southern and the Queen Mum's closed a few years ago.

Ds was born at the Queen Mum's (& I was readmitted there 2 weeks postpartum with a nasty infection) and they were lovely. Breast feeding support was brilliant too. My 1st MMC was managed there very well; the 2nd MMC at the Southern was handled atrociously Sad

My dad was a consultant at the Sick Kids (although he retired in the 90s) which is why I chose to have ds there. Smile

Thanks bigchoc.
I'm sort of where the Greens are currently, which surprises me a little as I normally come out dead centre in these things.
Maybe its the Overton window shift.

HashiAsLarry · 19/05/2017 23:20

Ok I'm kind of like Ghandi then. That's ok for me
Me too, far worse to be similar too Grin

He'd have still been there (I think - might just have been doing locums by then). He was a paediatric radiologist, so it would've depended on what was wrong with your dd whether he'd have been involved.

You'd remember him if he had been Wink

BigChocFrenzy · 20/05/2017 00:14

So sorry, pretty Flowers

BigChocFrenzy · 20/05/2017 00:24

Dementia care costs are different to nhs costs for ordinary diseases, because they require years of labour-intensive care, which is the most expensive kind - and there are millions of sufferers.

Needing care is a consequence of growing old and not dying suddenly.

The sheer resources required for dementia are far in excess of those for any other disease.

Oh Pretty, I'm so sorry Flowers

The guardian did a long read on the plight of curry houses which was interesting:

Demand is dropping because restaurants have more competition from supermarket ready meals and cook at home sauces. This could be overcome by allowing them to bring in new chefs and develop new dishes which have to be done by men, and men brought up in India learning how to use the specialised equipment.

It was interesting in that the article was very uncritical, but with very good points below the line which hadn't been addressed such as , why not recruit women already living in the uk, the unhealthyness of a lot of curry, the fact that there are far more options now than there were in the 70s etc.

Artisanjam · 20/05/2017 07:38

I'm sorry, Pretty.

LurkingHusband · 20/05/2017 07:39

Isn't tartan more a Victorian picture-postcard affectation ?

In which case, it's entirely appropriate ...

(In fact using the "a" word there does rather beg the question if Sassenachs wearing tartan might not be considered cultural appropriation ... like Scots owning bulldogs ?)

RebelAllianceUK · 20/05/2017 08:04

I knew this. No part within a mile. Unsurprising that I'm so politically depressed.

Bolshybookworm · 20/05/2017 09:00

I come out as really left wing on that graph Grin

BigChocFrenzy · 20/05/2017 09:15

The 3 nationalist parties (but not UKIP !) are all near the centre crosshairs; the main parties much further out

I wondered why I kept finding so much in common with the SNP - it's because I'm almost on the crosshairs and the other 2 nationalist parties are hardly ever reported.

prettybird · 20/05/2017 09:17

Good point Lurking - maybe I should laugh at her and remind myself that if she thinks that that will sway us, then more fool her Grin

However, part of me is bothered by the subliminal message that I perceive that she is portraying: that we are really nothing but tartan and shortbread. That is said by some Unionists: that we have nothing to export except tartan tat Angry

Going back to the latest YouGov polling for Scotland (for the first ever in 5 years of YouGoving, I was actually part of the survey): looking at the raw data tables (which I now always do Grin rather than believe the headline), it was interesting to see that Ruth Davidson's +10 rating excluded 24% of respondents who didn't know/weren't sure Confused The equivalent figure for Nicola's +2 was 9%.

BigChocFrenzy · 20/05/2017 09:23

Rebel If you're in England, you're even further from the major parties than I am
Maybe red could start a Westministenders party:
Even though we have quite a wide range of views, we have some important driving forces in common which is not addressed by the main parties:

. we like facts and we seek them out
. we like to keep our brains switched on, regardless of all the flag-waving
. we don't demonise or "other" minority groups or the vulnerable
. we take responsibility and don't blame foreign countries for our own mistakes

BigChocFrenzy · 20/05/2017 09:28

pretty Those attitudes seem all part of how the Tory Party and a large chunk of the public regard Scotland as a mixture of their closest colony and a tartan theme park.
There is little respect, just patronizing ownership
Hence the fury when those uppity Scots aren't sufficiently respectful to their owners.
