Theresa May is being held hostage.

There is mounting evidence that all is not as it seems at CCHQ. It makes you don your tin foil hat and ask who is in charge.

Theresa May was a Remainer. She suddenly abandoned that when she became leader. Her proclamation of what would follow next seems directly at odds with her actions. This is not her fault. This is her plea for help and way of telling the outside world that she is a prisoner of Brexit.

At first it seemed like perhaps she had been locked up with Brexiteers for too long. She seemed to be developing a survival strategy which seemed totally irrational to outsiders. The signs of intimidation everywhere though. Instead of criticising those who did this, May joined in with them or was complicit in her silence.

Things are now taking a sinister turn. After repeatedly saying ‘No Election’, May crumbled and called one. She has now not been seen in public since. Instead she is being wheeled out at closed events to the party faithful. They are being dressed as mixing with the people but they are no such thing. The plebs in attendance are set to ‘mute’ or locked out completely.

Behold the coming of the May-Bot. She seeks to ‘prevent tourism’ in Wales. She now no longer knows which town she is currently in. (Much less have a plan for Brexit). She accuses an organisation set up to use its numbers to get better deals, of doing what it is supposed to, except she calls this ‘ganging up’.

May is not transported in a bus. Oh no. Instead she travels by the Bond Villian’s choice of transport; the helicopter.

More worrying still is the mantra ‘Strong and Stable’ repeated as many times as possible. It is almost as if, if she says it enough she might start believing it. She certainly has got her party members brainwashed and acting as if they were Zombies. Who needs ‘Spice’ when you are a Conservative? They ‘Believe’…

The ploy is to hoodwink people into voting for May instead of the Tories. CCHQ have removed Conservative branding from literature and campaigning in the North. The party are still too toxic, but May apparently scores well especially against Corbyn. Ironically however negatively I think of Corbyn he does display something May increasingly seems incapable of: humanity.

Many people might think of May as some sort of dictator figure. Its true. Every vote for her strengthens her hand. But not for Brexit negotiations. Mainly because Brexit is without merit or reward. Not unless you hold power. This is part 2 of the grab for it.

This is May’s power paradox. SHE is not powerful. She isn’t persuasive. She isn’t a healer of divides. She relies on authoritarian measures to get her way. This isn’t a sign of her personal power, but a sign of her personal weakness. She is sly and sneaky in her methods rather than compelling others to come along with her. They are doing so more because they dislike the alternative in Corbyn less.

She is not stable. She has lurched from one drama to the next, and has repeatedly been forced to back down from what she wanted. Nothing says ‘stability’ and ‘good leadership’ like appointing Boris Johnson Foreign Secretary. The lady is not so much for turning and leading, but is already staggering around dizzy whilst blindfolded playing pin the tail on the donkey. And Christ she’s got a lot of them in her Government. Including the numpty who decided to do a live event and broadcast it in an area with no wi-fi. Mind you, that is soon to be the entire country. Or what’s left of it.

She had said she had a mandate for Brexit and did not need this to be approved by the country as she was getting on with the job. This is why we are having a General Election to give her a mandate…

Not only that, but there is a lurking question here that should not be forgotten. Who is pulling May’s strings and making her dance as her actions are not natural? Every puppet show has puppet masters behind the scenes of the stage, hiding in the shadows.

They will dispense with their toy once she has outlived her usefulness like every good baddie.

Is she the one we should be most fearful of?

Hold on tight this is going to be a very bumpy ride over the next two years. Just how many casualties will be sacrificed on the altar of Brexit?

Im just....baffled.
I'm no political commentator and only averagely intelligent but....fgs...these people aRe in some of the most deprived areas of the uk!
What do they think the tories will do?

TatianaLarina · 05/05/2017 19:34

I could be way off as it may just be that she's shit at public speaking. But any kind of stress plays havoc with type 1 diabetes - it makes insulin levels very difficult to regulate effectively.

I wonder if they're trying to shield from the thing she finds most stressful.

Peregrina · 05/05/2017 19:39

If TM is not good at public speaking then I suggest she learns PDQ.

As for being shielded from things she finds stressful - she should have thought of that before becoming PM. It's not as though this health condition has just come upon her.

SwedishEdith · 05/05/2017 19:42

But you cannot be PM and shit at public speaking - it's a key part of the job description. It's a pity she got the job by default as she'd have been forced out to campaign then and take part in debates. I do think her health probably isn't 100% though.

Peregrina · 05/05/2017 19:42

I know my last comment sounds harsh, but Theresa May didn't have to call an election right now. Sometimes too, health conditions do prevent you from doing certain jobs, and it's something you have to accept. So I am not going to accept special pleading from Theresa May or her entourage.

TatianaLarina · 05/05/2017 19:51

I agree, perhaps the Tories didn't notice quite how bad she was at it before she was elected. Or perhaps it was faute de mieux.

Either way, they've saddled themselves and us with a PM who can't debate, can't meet the public, and can't converse sensibly with the Sturgeon or the EU.

Maintaining stable glucose levels and correct insulin dose is very difficult under stress because your body burns up glucose faster during bouts of stress (as with sudden bursts of exercise).

I don't think she was up to the job on any level really. It's a sign of the sorry state of the Tories that she got top job.

I know. It's mind boggling to me that people in some of the most deprived areas of Glasgow and therefore the UK, places where life expectancy is lower than in Iraq, places where a vast number of people are on benefits, would vote for a party who have nothing but utter disdain for them.

I don't think you sounded harsh at all Peregrina. If she's not able for the rigours of the job she shouldn't be doing the job in the first place. And if she's too scared to engage in anything but the most stage managed appearances she's definitely in the wrong job.

woman12345 · 05/05/2017 20:00

The health conditions of the poor souls she's deporting haven't been mitigating factors for them or those whose benefits have been removed despite chronic illness or disability. Or the rape survivors forced to provide evidence in order to access funds to feed their children.

Trump's new 'health' care includes the element that rape is a pre existing condition in terms of health cover.
www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/us-politics/trumpcare-rape-pre-existing-condition-healthcare-sexual-assault-domestic-violence-a7718661.html

Rape is the weapon that the state can turn on the survivor. Here and in US.

So, no, I also have no sympathy for May's pre existing condition of cruelty and weakness amongst many others.

SwedishEdith · 05/05/2017 20:02

I wonder if she'll stand down soon after? Secure 4/5 more years but pass leadership to someone else?

TatianaLarina · 05/05/2017 20:03

Who's talking about mitigation? I'm just mulling over reasons for her being kept away from the public.

Badders123 · 05/05/2017 20:14

Let's be honest....
The tories are now ukip in all but name
TM will be stabbed in the back before long by one of the brexiter ministers swivel eyed loons

BigChocFrenzy · 05/05/2017 20:16

I'm not sure at all that her physical health is being protected.
More like her political health.

She can make a reasonable set speech, but she's no good at debating, at thinking on her feet.
That's a serious disadvantage for a PM - I can't think of any who were so weak in this area

Therefore, she has to be shielded from members of the public, journalists, ... basically anyone who isn't part of the Tory circle feeding her prepared questions

She's also totally unequipped to handle Brexit, because she thinks she can bully & bluff her way to a deal.
That works against benefit claimants, but not against a much stronger opponent like the E27

BUT once she realises they won't give a special deal and she faces a humiliating climbdown, or presiding over an economic crash .....
She may use health as an excuse to resign - to save admitting failure

I wonder which fallguy the Tories will choose as PM afterwards Hmm

  • Bojo ? He knows it would be a poisoned chalice. Would ego & ambition trump self-preservation ?
  • Liam, IDS ? Surely even Brexiters hate them too
  • Davis ? He's stupid enough to accept
BigChocFrenzy · 05/05/2017 20:24

woman "rape as a pre-existing health condition"
Callous, evil bastards Angry
I'm sure some in the Uk would support that too - there are a few MN posters who will justify & support any hard right policy to take from the poor and vulnerable

Badders123 · 05/05/2017 20:25

Yep
😞😡

lalalonglegs · 05/05/2017 20:26

Swedish - that's what Dan Hodges speculated about in the MoS a few weeks ago - in fact, before TM called the election.

I checked his theory with another Minister. ‘I don’t know the exact timetable,’ he said. ‘But she’s certainly only a transitional PM.’ A third Minister agreed. ‘She’ll fight an Election, then be gone in 18 months.’

squoosh · 05/05/2017 20:32

The sight yesterday of Republican politicians (overwhelmingly white males of course) whooping and cheering that they'd passed the first hurdle for uninsuring tens of millions of Americans while simultaneously creating a massive tax break for the super wealthy was genuinely nauseating. Utterly sick making. The amoral fucks.

TatianaLarina · 05/05/2017 20:33

I'm not sure either, just considering the options. She may just be shit at public speaking. I'm actually more concerned that she's so bad at negotiating and so out of touch with reality.

I wonder whether she may do the two year negotiation period and then resign or be pushed as we move onto the interim deal and trade negotiations start. I think you're right that health issues will be the excuse.

I think Hague may be a contender.

woman12345 · 05/05/2017 20:35

I don't think she is going anywhere. They are winning on her ticket and she's got the swivel eyed loonery of Thatcher in her demeanour now. She's around for the foreseeable.
It's academic anyway, this is an Arron Banks government, anyone notice how he's invisible?

Jellykat · 05/05/2017 20:48

I cant believe this, Stephen bloody Crabb has crawled out from under his stone! His 'retirement' didnt last long eh? Got a letter from him today, and he wants me to vote for him next month.. Yeah rrrright Hmm
Talk about opportunist, he obviously saw the Torys were ahead, and decided to try and slither back in! Urgh!

NotDavidTennant · 05/05/2017 20:52

I think Hague may be a contender.

Hague stood down as an MP at the last election. It would be a long road for home to come back now.

Peregrina · 05/05/2017 20:58

She wouldn't be the first PM to use ill health as an excuse to go, once the going got tough. Funny that the MoS had a piece about her not calling a GE two days before she did!

Peregrina · 05/05/2017 20:59

How long did Thatcher last once the swivel eyed loonery set in? Two years?
