Nice to see some positive news, Qatar announcing £5,000,000,000 investment and Sir James Dyson makes some valid points in support of going our own way.

It's funny how life works out isn't it, Teresa May campaigns for remain and she is the one to trigger brexit!

Come on TM, get on with it so we can make a start.

And of course, anon clocks on at 18:00 UK time, or 10:00 California time.

Seriously anon

You should be enjoying yourself in the sunshine

Go on...off you trot

Corcory · 01/04/2017 23:52

New one on me Kitty!

Peregrina - I know quite a few SNP supporters who don't want to be in the EU either they want total independence and that was always the traditional stance of the SNP. As far as I'm concerned it was a fundamental premise of their independence struggle. Total independence.

Corcory · 01/04/2017 23:59

Prettybird. I certainly wouldn't be happy joining the EU if I thought there was any likelihood of us having to join the euro at any time at all.

Peregrina · 02/04/2017 00:01

Another question Corcory - I remember the SNP from way back - the seventies, when the idea of Independence seemed pretty fanciful to be charitable about it. My impression was that the change started with the poll tax. What exactly happened to go and almost wipe out all the other parties in Scotland? The 56 Westminster MPs haven't come from nowhere.

prettybird · 02/04/2017 00:26

I for one have always been a supporter of Europe/the EEC/the EU - started crossing my Zs and 7s in tribute the day we joined the EEC Grin

I haven't always been a supporter of independence/the SNP (indeed, even though I couldn't vote, my non vote counted towards the rejection of Home Rule in 1979, which I was quite happy about) - but for the last 20 years I have been both.

I don't see the two as incompatible. Smile

prettybird · 02/04/2017 00:27

(Prior to 20 years ago, I was a dedicated Labour voter)

Corcory · 02/04/2017 00:35

I wasn't living in Scotland at the time of the poll tax but I do know Maggie Thatcher really rubbed the Scots up the wrong way. As for the 56 MPs. I think there are several contributing factors including the demise of the Liberal party and the labour vote going right down. In Scotland UKIP has never taken off and taken the disgruntled labour vote but the SNP has. I live in a traditionally liberal area and we now have an SNP MP for the very first time.

Peregrina · 02/04/2017 00:39

The LibDems carried the can in Coalition and now people are waking up to just how nasty the Tories would have been without them, but that explains their loss of votes. What caused the Labour vote to collapse?

Notice how as soon as anon was called a troll, the posts stopped? We must make sure that our troll antenna are in good working order. Fortunately we were able to get back on track and discuss the issues. We need informed Leaver's opinions like Corcory's, or informed commentators like Richard North. We need this now more than before.
