I dont get you wrong

Im sure you dont mean they cant have different views

SeekEveryEveryKnownHidingPlace · 29/03/2017 09:48

So do you want EU nationals to stay, Wrong?

TM said she would 'represent' Eu nationals - she didn't say she'd be arguing that they should stay. Let's remember that citizens of the world are citizens of nowhere, according to her. And that she doesn't believe a single word she's saying anyway, as she was also a Remainer.

Her speech is balls from the outset - she doesn't 'represent every person in the whole UK.' She doesn't represent me, for a start. Vainglorious fool.

surferjet · 29/03/2017 09:50

Feels really weird coming in here as a customer Grin but cheers to fellow leavers 🍾 we finally did it!

I wonder who's delivering the letter?

SemiPermanent · 29/03/2017 09:54

Am struggling to find out where TM has stated that one of the Brexit aims is to 'expel all EU immigrants'.
Perhaps you could point me in the right direction Seek?

Or have you had sight of the letter/her planned speech where she lays this out as an aim?

For some reason all I've seen is clear statements that securing the position of migrants is a priority.

SemiPermanent · 29/03/2017 09:56

Hi Surfer!
You are like Angie Watts or Peggy Mitchell - the pub will always be 'yours' Grin

🍻

WrongTrouser · 29/03/2017 09:57

No, of course they can have different views. The point I was trying to make is that if people want moderate leavers to try to influence the form of Brexit, people need to stop maligning leave voters. If people are scared to stick their head above the parapet, and are constantly having words put into their mouths (the vast majority of leave voters do not want anyone expelled) then they are

  1. not going to be motivated to make their own voices heard and

  2. if they do try, are going to find it hard to be heard because they are fighting against the noise of the views others are trying to ascribe to them.

So if people want a sensible discussion about what sort of Brexit and country we want, everyone who is doing so needs to stop incorrectly ascribing views to leave voters.

SeekEveryEveryKnownHidingPlace · 29/03/2017 09:57

I think you're misunderstanding Surfer - I didn't say she had said that, if you have a little look above.

However, what she has done is use them as bargaining chips, and embarked on a course of action which has led to profound uncertainty for their future, which she is as powerless as she is unwilling to allay.

SeekEveryEveryKnownHidingPlace · 29/03/2017 09:59

The point I was trying to make is that if people want moderate leavers to try to influence the form of Brexit, people need to stop maligning leave voters

So all the moderate leave voters are too shy to express their moderate views until the remain voters promise them that they have a positive view of all leave voters? And them they'll feel confident enough to say that they do want EU nationals to stay here? But until that point, the nasty Remain voters are putting the moderate leave voters in the invidious position of reluctantly having to align themselves with the racist and idiotic leave voters?

SemiPermanent · 29/03/2017 09:59

Has she used them as bargaining chips?

How?

Negotiations haven't started yet btw.

WrongTrouser · 29/03/2017 10:00

Seek

Yes, I do and have said so many times on these threads.

Kaija · 29/03/2017 10:00

"I wonder who's delivering the letter?"

PMSL Semi, there's more arguing in here than there is in the queen Vic Grin

WrongTrouser · 29/03/2017 10:02

Bit early but Wine for surfer, semi and all celebrating leavers.

SemiPermanent · 29/03/2017 10:03

Surfer - the historic significance of handing the letter to Tusk has been likened in its importance to when Dirty Den handed the divorce papers to Angie... ShockGrin

But until that point, the nasty Remain voters are putting the moderate leave voters in the invidious position of reluctantly having to align themselves with the racist and idiotic leave voters?

You are doing exactly what I described above. All the polls show that the vast majority of all voters (as in 85-90%) want EU nationals to stay. So that's most leave voters. So they are trying to make their moderate voice heard.

But you are trying to shout over them "No, they don't want EU nationals to stay even if they say they do"

Why would you do that? I can't understand your motivation.

SeekEveryEveryKnownHidingPlace · 29/03/2017 10:07

Semi Liam Fox has referred to EU nationals in the UK as 'one of our main cards' in the discussions. May immediately followed her aspiration to expect to guarantee their right to remain by saying she wanted get a good deal for Britons in the EU - ie., quid pro quo. However, our quid, in every sense, is fucked and she knows it.

SemiPermanent · 29/03/2017 10:16

May immediately followed her aspiration to expect to guarantee their right to remain by saying she wanted get a good deal for Britons in the EU

So, she clearly stated that she wants to assure their position within the UK - exactly as I recalled.

I'm not sure if you're aware, but TM is the PM of the UK.
It's in the TORs for her job to look after the interests of UK citizens - would you have preferred she didn't give mention to, or state an aim to assure their position?

howabout · 29/03/2017 10:34

Morning Semi, Surfer, Wrong and fellow celebrants out n about on this historic day. Wine Cake Cake Any Unicorn biscuits left over from last time?

Just think of all the excuses we have had to celebrate so far and the negotiations haven't even started yet.

You are doing a sterling job in my defence this am Wrong. I fear I may in fact be a shy Brexiter as what with spending most of my time in My Little Pony Land with a 5 year old I find I have a distinct lack of bitterness and can only see unicorns and green uplands for me and my fellow Scots.

scaryteacher · 29/03/2017 10:34

Seek As I understand it from some contacts of mine, the PM had bilateral agreements about EU Nationals ready to go with 26 member states, but these were blocked by the 27th, which has elections in September. Mutti said 'nein'.

howabout · 29/03/2017 10:39

Gotta love the bbc sometimes. According to them £ is all over the floor this morning due to A50. Actually it is still up on last week and the $ has had a bit of a boost from US consumer confidence and Trump sorting out some industrial wins after the Obamacare non-repeal debacle last week.

Olympiathequeen · 29/03/2017 10:43

As a moderate Leaver with all the views expressed by Wrongtrouser (I hovered between Remain and leave) who has been ripped to shreds, my views rubbished and called all the names we are sick and tired of, I have no interest in lobbying for a soft Brexit. I simply can't be bothered.

I'm one of the pissed off Leavers who just wants it done with.

howabout · 29/03/2017 10:45

scary now I have "Mother knows Best" from Tangled going through my head.

Cailleach1 · 29/03/2017 10:48

I think people just don't believe her. I don't. That simple. Pretty words, but empty codswallop. Not everyone believes in Mother Theresa or the three stooges. Never mind the John Major's dodgy bastards MP's who have come out of the shadows.

I think people would prefer she acted on it. Well, maybe not everyone.

Was David Davis under oath at the parliamentary committee. Because if so, maybe he needs to be recalled. He knew nothing about anything at the committee. Hadn't yet looked at things when asked about them. But on QT they seemingly have a huge contingency plans 'for every possible outcome'.

At which venue was he embellishing the truth?
