*brexit I mean.

Badders123 · 22/03/2017 08:54

There not their!
Argh!

Niamer · 22/03/2017 08:57

no remainer has said the EU is perfect

I agree totally. On the outside we have no way of influencing the future of such a powerful union.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 22/03/2017 09:00

Intellectually poorer for sure.

MsHooliesCardigan · 22/03/2017 09:00

poorboy I don't think that atheists can be fundamentalist in the same way that religious people can because, generally, they hold the beliefs they do having weighed up the evidence and decided that there isn't a god. Religious people get their beliefs from reading a book written thousands of years ago and going to church/mosque/temple. Also, even the most passionate atheist would admit that you can't prove that God doesn't exist whereas many people of faith would say that they are 100% convinced of God's existence.
I have never heard a single Remainer claim that the EU is perfect- a lot of those who voted Remain have a lot of criticisms of the EU but still think that, on balance, we're better off staying in.
The really extreme Brexiters on the other hand will never admit that there are any negatives about Brexit e.g. pointing out about bankers leaving and taking the considerable amount of tax they pay with them is just met with 'Yay! We got rid of those liberal elitists'.
Arguing with the most devout Brexiters is like trying to convert Billy Graham to Satanism.

SemiPermanent · 22/03/2017 09:04

It doesn't sound wanky & boasty!

SemiPermanent · 22/03/2017 09:05

That was to Badders - I xposted, soz.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 22/03/2017 09:07

Mshoolies it's the lack of critical thinking that is dangerous for society as a whole.

Imjustapoorboy · 22/03/2017 09:28

Ot sure re atheists I have met some who refuse to acknowledge the rights of others to have a belief system. It's that kind of blindness I find amongst brexiters online. Most remainer are actually moderates who arent ardent pro eu but have analysed the situation in terms of how they see the UK would be better for most in their view tgerefore when they hear people are leaving....they are.....or are making plans....I am.....Most brexiters crow and gloat (not becoming) have no empathy.

It's not shocking so much as shameful. It is possible to think leaving is right and be concerned about how it us being done. There is common ground on both sides there. It's a shame that tribe like mentality isn't allowing rational thought and care towards those who are afraid

Imjustapoorboy · 22/03/2017 09:30

I do think it's only the extreme brexiters that are like this. Many of my friends who voted leave are not like this. I have friends from across political spectrum...apart from the extremes...they are capable of reasoned expression

GhostofFrankGrimes · 22/03/2017 09:44

Well I'm yet to hear that reasoned expression. Not suggesting it doesn't exist just not amongst leavers here

Svetlana33 · 22/03/2017 09:48

Exposure therapies are still considered to be the most effective treatments wrt fear-related conditions btw

True. In this case: shock, denial, anger, acting out, anxiety & depression. it is noted that quite a few remainers are from EU countries and also from outside of Europe, so their frustration is understandable.

Interesting article How the most sinister trend of our age is a poisonous conviction taking root on the Left and among the elite that ordinary people are too stupid to be trusted with voting

www.dailymail.co.uk/debate/article-4258522/A-poisonous-conviction-taking-root-Left.html#ixzz4c2wy4TjB

GhostofFrankGrimes · 22/03/2017 09:51

Ah yes the daily mail who attacked judges and the rule of law. Suggest leavers Google cognitive dissonance.

Svetlana33 · 22/03/2017 09:51

The poor will get thrown under the bus. Remember the poor? Yeah Brexit was gonna help them

Not so. in fact it is EU poor that has thrown UK's poor under the bus.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 22/03/2017 09:54

I'm an ordinary person Svetlana.

Bearbehind · 22/03/2017 09:54

svetlana, could you explain what you mean by that comment.

How has the EU thrown the UK poor 'under a bus'?

I realise it sounds good in defence if your position but can you actually back it up?

Svetlana33 · 22/03/2017 09:58

And the low-end of jobs market has been manipulated by businesses, big and small. shortfall in low wages picked up by govt so business owners do not care so long as someone is enabling cheap overseas labour to remain in UK.

howabout · 22/03/2017 09:58

All a bit Hyde Park Corner in here atm Shock

All the faux concern for "the poor" does wind me up though. Just as there are elites on both sides of the debate there are reps from all strata of society with competing interests.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 22/03/2017 09:59

Wages won't go up post Brexit.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 22/03/2017 10:00

No faux concern here. Been involved. In social justice campaigns for nearly 10 years

Bearbehind · 22/03/2017 10:01

svetlana So you think jobs being done by cheap overseas workers will now miraculously be taken up by locals?

Why didn't the locals do the work before?

Svetlana33 · 22/03/2017 10:02

govt has tried many times to get our own longterm unemployed into work but unsuccessful. some are unemployable for number of reasons. Merkel says that she needs more people because of falling birth rate, but many who entered her country are also not very employable people. few will agree to work for the Man - I mean few men from outside of Europe will want to work for white boss. only the educated will succeed.

Bearbehind · 22/03/2017 10:05

So, as you've conceded the government has been unsuccessful in getting long term unemployed into work, what has that got to do with the EU?

How is leaving the EU going to resolve the problem?

As far as I can see it is only going to further harm the poor as they'll be most affected by inflation.

Svetlana33 · 22/03/2017 10:07

EU is much depending on next generation of immigrants who enter Europe. if religion obsession does not get in the way, the children of these immigrants may succeed well. that means a big change for the 'look' of Europe, its culture will change and recede and will be replaced.

squishysquirmy · 22/03/2017 10:07

"few men from outside of Europe will want to work for white boss"
Hmm
What are you basing this on?
