Brexit

If leaving the EU is a complete and utter disaster, who will you blame?

Ten years down the line, the economy is struggling because of it, troubles in NI are inflamed again, I'm scared to even think what might go wrong in Gibraltar or a split with Scotland. Anyway, if it is a huge mistake, who will be at fault?

OP posts:
GloriaGaynor · 24/01/2017 21:29

I will blame every single leaver both confessed and unconfessed - so that includes you Corbyn.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 24/01/2017 21:29

And if it's a roaring success who will you apologise to?

The unicorns? Hmm

YokoUhOh · 24/01/2017 21:30

It will not be a roaring success.

Blame? Too many arseholes to mention but I'll give it a go

Cameron
Boris
Farage
Gove
Vote Leave
People who voted leave
May
Murdoch
Dacre
Desmond
Successive Tory governments
Blair for having a mandate to radically improve things and squandering it

SummerLightning · 24/01/2017 21:30

I shall blame

  • Cameron
  • Boris
  • Corbyn
  • The tabloid media
  • Farage

If it's a roaring success I shall apologise to no-one but be delighted and gladly admit I was wrong.

Figmentofmyimagination · 24/01/2017 21:30

I also blame the BBC, for pursuing a stupid 'balance' policy which loosely worked by allowing Farage or Gove to pop up every five minutes talking bollocks.

cushioncovers · 24/01/2017 21:30

*Cameron - for calling the referendum with no plan.

Both Campaigns - for lying and scaremongering.*

^^ this

Kaija · 24/01/2017 21:31

"And if it's a roaring success who will you apologise to?"

To you, infinite.

And the unicorns.

BuntyFigglesworthSpiffington · 24/01/2017 21:31

SO MANY PEOPLE.

Cameron, Farage, Banks, Johnson, Corbyn, Gove, Davis, Fox, people who wanted to remain but couldn't be arsed voting, people who made their minds based on Facebook memes, May, Rees Mogg, everyone in charge of Remain campaign, Daily Mail, everyone who told blatant lies, the bloke who owns Wetherspoons, people who were motivated by racism, Murdoch, Murdoch and Murdoch again, Sarah Vine.....

larrygrylls · 24/01/2017 21:32

Gloria,

Every political decision ever taken is 'trying something', including joining the ecsc in the first place.

Managing economies is continual trial and error.

VikingVolva · 24/01/2017 21:33

I will blame everyone who trash-talks the UK's prospects since the vote.

Because like it or lump it, what matters most to our future is what happens next, in terms new deals and new relarptionshios. And doom-mongering can only impede it.

And yes, why not expect a roaring success? Just as likely as total doom.

The actual future will be between those two (probably) and talking doom and gloom isn't going to help, anything.

So for the successes, I'll praise everyone who worked from the time of the vote onwards to secure them.

Moi

user1475253854 · 24/01/2017 21:34

shutthefrontdoor very good point. We really think we're someone on the world stage. I don't think we are.

HormonalConfusion · 24/01/2017 21:35

David Cameron for announcing the referendum, Theresa May for carrying on with it, Gove/Boris/VoteLeave for deceiving the public, and any leave voters who either a) voted for racist/xenophobic reasons or b) voted because they believed everything they heard or saw without doing even the tiniest amount of research, especially when people pointed out to them that some stuff was clearly untrue (i.e. claims that the EU paid Dyson to move to Malaysia in order to spite Britain Hmm)

Cherryskypie · 24/01/2017 21:36

Yes, because the power of positive thinking will get us out of this shit!

StorminaBcup · 24/01/2017 21:36

I'd say Cameron too. Although I read an interesting article that said it was Tony Blairs fault; as the PM as he didn't impose a limit on eastern block workers migrating to the UK, which changed how the British viewed the EU (article here)

Some of the sound bites from this and Trump has really made me question the democratic process.

Figmentofmyimagination · 24/01/2017 21:37

M Thatcher for fucking over the unions' ability to negotiate decent terms and conditions, and for selling all the council houses and refusing to allow councils to reinvest the sale proceeds in refurbishing council houses or building new ones (possibly the stupidest policy decision ever, until Brexit), leading to some of the worst social inequality in the developed world.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 24/01/2017 21:37

And doom-mongering can only impede it.

No it won't but Tory ineptitude will.

Figmentofmyimagination · 24/01/2017 21:39

All the people who googled 'what's the EU' on 23 June.

Bearbehind · 24/01/2017 21:39

I'll blame all those who supported Leave because, for varying reasons, they thought it would further their cause, when it was never ever the answer.

Those who didn't think about the repercussions of their tunnel vision goal whatever it might have been.

That includes the career policitisns, the disenfranchised who voted to stick one up the establishment, those who dislike immigrants, those who are rich enough to ride it out anyway.

OhtoblazeswithElvira · 24/01/2017 21:39

Murdoch. Dacre.

Their hate-filled papers have damaged the UK so much, perhaps irreversibly, perhaps to the point of destruction.

GloriaGaynor · 24/01/2017 21:43

larry. Not this kind of trial which is plunging a whole country into an abyss on the offchance.

Political, social or economic change needs a manifesto, it needs white papers, it needs discussion, it need debate, it needs regional trials, it needs an election, it needs a mandate etc.

I can't get over the naivety of the people who think you can pitch a country at an iceberg and see if it sinks.

Figmentofmyimagination · 24/01/2017 21:48

Whoever turns out to have been on Putin's payroll.

And Gove, since he was only supposed to blow the doors off.

mirokarikovo · 24/01/2017 21:50

Mainly David Cameron for calling the referendum in the first place, for making the question so unspecific so that there was no definition of what a yes vote meant. - 65%

Also all the politicians over decades who blamed the EU for things rather than defending the benefits that the partnership brought us - 20%

And the newspaper moguls who spouted claptrap for their own ends - 15%

Redactio · 24/01/2017 21:57

GloriaGaynor

You mentioned the word mandate. In this case the government clearly has one for once.

Tryingtosaveup · 24/01/2017 22:05

I won't be blaming anyone. It will be an enormous success for the country.
