I am also of the 'couldn't give a fuck' crew, so DT has banned people from some pretty backward places? big deal. If the rest of us were to stop helping places who think justice is tossing rocks at women who are buried up to their necks, maybe they would sort themselves out? Building football grounds for them to turn into execution stadiums is stupid.

squishysquirmy · 29/01/2017 16:33

To be pedantic, it's not just "immigrants" from those countries. It includes those with dual citizenship and green cards, it includes tourists making flight connections in US airports, it includes British citizens, even a Tory MP and a British Olympic champion are affected. Those born in the USA, with dual nationality are banned. It even affects those who haven't been banned - American born children with a parent with dual nationality, for example. Families have been separated. Businesses are missing highly skilled employees who are unable to return from holiday. There are people stranded who cannot return to Britain.
And if Iraq do as Iran have done, and ban US passport holders, US soldiers may be stranded. As a US citizen, our foreign secretary may find himself banned from those countries too.
And everyone is affected by actions which widen divisions and increase radicalisation.

GraceGrape · 29/01/2017 16:51

Of course, Trump is only doing what he promised. Although notably, his ban on Muslims only extends to Muslim countries where the US has no vested interest. Including, incidentally, Saudi Arabia, a country with an execrable record on women's rights. So it's not really a ban on Muslims at all is it? Just political posturing which denies refuge to those genuinely in need simply because of their place of birth, whose citizens have never been shown to cause any danger to the American people.

Apologies for the delay in replying, have just been making some scented candles for my friends in my slow cooker.

rorty, we discussed the fact you read much more into what I said the Nissan workers at the time and several times since so that really is old news now.

Old news or not, I will never forget what revulsion I felt when I read your old threads about Nissan workers and I doubt if I ever will.

If I had been American my initial inclination in the latest Presidential election would have been to abstain. However learning what I have about Hillary Clinton would have compelled me to vote for Trump to prevent her becoming POTUS.

No, of course I am not going to provide links - you are perfectly capable of Googling and looking on Youtube. While you're at it, I suggest you do similar on Obama - you may learn something.

Actually I'm feeling generous - here's a link about Chelsea Clinton - she appears to often wear an inverted cross round her neck - any idea why someone would do that?

GraceGrape · 29/01/2017 16:59

Sorry, should explain, the numbers on the photo above are meant to relate to terrorist attacks on America and obviously not accurate, but I used to illustrate that their is a big grey cloud hanging over Saudi Arabia's involvement in 9/11 but no Syrian has ever been shown to have committed an act of terror against the US, but which country faces the ban?

Could you be any more dramatic rorty? Hmm

I don't recall my exact words though I'm sure you have them saved to whip out in a flash but the principle, which I 100% stand by, is that if those Nissan workers in Sunderland lost their jobs because they voted Leave and Nissan pulled out then I wouldn't be sympathetic as they were warned it was a likely repercussion of voting Leave.

That is very different to being 'gleeful' about people losing their jobs.

I'd apply the same logic to any Leave voter who becomes disadvantaged as a result of Brexit however that manifests itself.

I think you might want to look at your priorities when deciding which comments are revolting because, from where I'm standing, your cronies are saying things far, far worse than anything I could ever think, let alone type.

RortyCrankle · 29/01/2017 17:05

Me please surfer, candle making is thirsty work.

Could I please have half a Guinness - need to top up my iron [smille]

TheElementsSong · 29/01/2017 17:13

Has anybody seen Wrong recently?

Corcory · 29/01/2017 17:21

As leavers we don't always agree, and I have to say I do care about what Trump is doing in the US. I can't stand the man and I think his policies are wrong and certainly this latest ban on certain Muslim countries. His logic is completely screwed. He defends the right of the American people to bear arms which is a massive killer in the US but wants to ban Muslims from countries which have had nothing to do with terrorism in the US. He has made ISIS even more hard line and only playing into their hands - stupid man.

Headfullofdreams · 29/01/2017 17:34

Wel said Corcory.

Hilarious that when a "Remainer" asks a question it's interrogation, but when a Leaver asks one it's just a question?

Headfullofdreams · 29/01/2017 17:35

Well

Bearbehind · 29/01/2017 17:53

Just to add, in order to save you the bother of digging it out rorty, I do also think that Leavers need to begin to reap what they've sown sooner rather than later so that we can limit the damage caused by Brexit.

I hope some are starting to see the potential consequences of being beholden to the US, because you can't begin to argue they need us more than we need them.

fritillery · 29/01/2017 18:05

Seriously? Someone on this thread is saying that the Clinton family are worshippers of Satan and that Bill Clinton became president through Satan helping him? Do you actually believe that, Rorty? If so, I think a visit to your GP is long overdue?

RufusTheSpartacusReindeer · 29/01/2017 18:07

rorty

Its the cross of St Peter Grin

Talk about scraping the barrel

fritillery · 29/01/2017 18:08

Maybe the "I don't give a fuck because it doesn't affect me personally" crew on here need to re-read this:
First they came for the Communists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Communist
Then they came for the Socialists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Socialist
Then they came for the trade unionists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a trade unionist
Then they came for the Jews
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Jew
Then they came for me
And there was no one left
To speak out for me

RufusTheSpartacusReindeer · 29/01/2017 18:09

Oh goodness that is funny

I love this thread its a laugh a minute

You dont honestly believe she is a satanist because she wears the cross of st peter do you

That would be really really sad

RufusTheSpartacusReindeer · 29/01/2017 18:10

squishysquirmy · 29/01/2017 18:18

Well said Corcory.
Rorty, if you're going to bring up religion, it might be worth reflecting on what Christianity actually teaches.
Even Leviticus, which is not the most tolerant, liberal bit of the bible has some interesting advice on how to treat refugees (19:33-34).
Funny how the religious right are so keen to uphold the anti-gay stuff, but not the parts which preach mercy and inclusiveness.

TheElementsSong · 29/01/2017 18:23

Corcory thank you Flowers

RortyCrankle · 29/01/2017 18:42

Yes, I know it's the Cross of St Peter (him allegedly being crucified upside down) but it is also used in modern times as a symbol of anti-Christian, the occult and satanism.

Kaija · 29/01/2017 19:00

Lord. You think Chelsea Clinton is a satanist? Are you a fan of Alex Jones by any chance?

Kaija · 29/01/2017 19:02

I'm guessing you already know about the flies and smell of sulphur around Hillary Clinton and Obama. It was on Infowars so must be true.

RufusTheSpartacusReindeer · 29/01/2017 19:04

Oh thank goodness rorty

Because someone would have to be fucking stupid to believe that and i honestly dont see that in your posts

And yes some people use religious symbols for the wrong reason (like the swastika)

I remember a particularly memorable sceen in The exorcist involving a crucifix

Luckily for me i have managed to restrain myself from making inappropriate comments whenever i see anyone wearing or carrying a crucifix
