Labour are in a v difficult position really.
I saw something yesterday saying an estimated 2/3 of Labour supporters voted Leave - I would assume that's made up mostly of their grassroots working class vote, with a fair dollop of middle class Lexiters thrown in.

Unfortunate they also have to contend with a very comfortably-off, shouty, sharp elbowed middle-class, metropolitan-type 1/3 who are used to getting their own way & don't like being told 'no'.
The ones who have co-opted Labour over the years & who would be spiritually more content if they switched to wee Tim Farron's team.
(I wish they would, then Labour would have a chance of getting its groove back).

Totally agree SemiPermanent

Pithily put and very true Semi

LynnsSnazzyCardigan · 27/01/2017 11:57

semipermanent just popping in for a swift half and a packet of dry roasted peanuts to say I'm a northern, working class, lifelong labour voting Lexiter Grin
Not sure which box that puts me in with regards to Jezza's target vote; I like the man for his principles but not as a leader. I was more of a John Smith fan myself and cried when he died, even though I was just a 16 year old whippersnapper at the time.

howabout · 27/01/2017 13:21

I wish they would too Semi as I have hope NS may be starting to be sufficiently offputting to the Lexit arm of SNP converts to give a platform for Scottish Labour.

(think it is 2/3 of Labour seats rather than voters lest the factcheckers get on the case, although the 2/3 of Labour voters voted Remain is based on small sample Ashcroft polling and I am highly sceptical of it).

Choose Blue Nun Wine

SemiPermanent · 27/01/2017 13:30

YY - 2/3 Labour seats, soz!

Lynn, you are perfectly welcome in my vision of the Labour Party Grin

Agree re Jezza - the man's a fool.
I have glimmers where I think I'm starting to 'get' him & then he just fucks up again and shows his ineptitude as a leader.

Am also irrationally irritated every time I see Ed Milliband too now - since he's let his hair grow big he's gone all shouty & combative.
(I think his hair makes him overheat, it's very thick).

DebbieDownersGiveItARest · 27/01/2017 14:35

My man Mulloch doesn't mince his words does he Grin and more than that he has such incredible back ground and proper - rounded experience. Will look up that link, the first time I saw him speak was in the BBC link I posted on thread. He oozes confidence, YES it will be hysterical to have him as Ambassador - whats the bloody hold up Trump!!!!!

Hilarious about Merkel as well, but its not surprising if she has inflated sense of self importance. Hmm

DebbieDownersGiveItARest · 27/01/2017 14:36

I caught little of QT last night and I must admit I find it very hard to listen to DA, I nearly turned her off and was astonished to hear her be so reasonable.

InfiniteSheldon · 27/01/2017 14:58

Diane has a cunning plan

WrongTrouser · 27/01/2017 15:02

DebbieDownersGiveItARest · 27/01/2017 15:52

wrong I must admit I pilfered the idea.....Blush too good to resist though Grin

InfiniteSheldon · 27/01/2017 18:39

Loving TM suit and Donald's matching tie

IamWendy · 27/01/2017 18:42

Anybody been watching the press conference?? Trump will be coming over for a state visit later this year, I wonder if we will be his first official state visit!?

IamWendy · 27/01/2017 18:44

Awwww....he held her hand down some steps!

SemiPermanent · 27/01/2017 19:57

I think it looks like a positive meeting was had by both Grin
Loved TM matching her colours to his!

DebbieDownersGiveItARest · 28/01/2017 10:24

I bet Trump cannot wait to see the Queen..you could see his countenance straighten up at the mere mention of "The Queen"...I think we need some solid assurances in the bag before we let him Grin its our leverage.

Apparently memos going round the EU to get on with trade deals that are dragging on - due to Trump/brexit, shame they have to have their backs to the wall to get on with stuff like this. Embarrassing really.

He wasn't joking was he - banning migrants form certain parts of the world entering the U.S.

RBeer · 28/01/2017 16:59

The folks that voted for Trump took him seriously but not literally. The rest like I took him literally but not seriously.
All were wrong.
He has to be taken literally and seriously.

RBeer · 28/01/2017 17:31

I for one am not hopeful for the US or UK. I will have to liquidate my stocks tomorrow as I can't see this ending good.

SemiPermanent · 28/01/2017 18:03

I am hopeful for both, I think it will all turn out perfectly well.

As such, I shan't bother to liquidate my stocks.

RortyCrankle · 28/01/2017 19:31

I would love to be a fly on Merkel's wall when she watches May with Trump Grin

RBeer · 28/01/2017 20:17

You don't need to be a fly. The World sees the UK appeasement to the fascist.
History repeats itself.
