A poster for the pub wall.

surferjet · 06/12/2016 17:23

Not quite sure why you're on this thread twofingerstoGideon ?

Has the 'Great' been put back into Great Britain yet?

InformalRoman · 06/12/2016 18:05

I think we've lost the "United" from United Kingdom though.

SeekEveryEveryKnownHidingPlace · 06/12/2016 18:09

Why should twofingers be on the thread! You know it's not actually a pub, right?

SeekEveryEveryKnownHidingPlace · 06/12/2016 18:13

Why *shouldn't!

WidowWadman · 06/12/2016 18:21

I thought the pub was a place for everyone? At least that's what it said on the title of the first one.

howabout · 06/12/2016 19:02

Too early for a game of Brexit Plan bingo?

Anyone want a go at drafting the caveat clause saying of course once the EU actually deign to negotiate with us it will end up completely different and making it bulletproof from an A50 style challenge?

Cailleach1 · 06/12/2016 19:36

Oh my, twofingers. That poster is so funny. It is so bizarre, but perfectly reflects the pulling back of the veil.

Bearbehind · 06/12/2016 19:38

Given the lack of progress and announcements over the last 6 months, the number of u-turns the government are making is astounding.

winterisnigh · 06/12/2016 19:43

Hislop article - war is peace - black is white,

Surely thats Blair?

Suppressing truth and reality?

winterisnigh · 06/12/2016 19:45

Has the 'Great' been put back into Great Britain yet?
Whats the EU looking like these days?

Has it finally got its act together? Or is it still a shambolic rambling in coherent mess?

winterisnigh · 06/12/2016 19:49

figment are you quoting from an article here?

We live in a country in which people are primed by superficial stuff they see on the internet (blah blah white eton male etc etc) and by the right wing press to attack judges without the first clue about how the rule of law operates in this country

I read almost same words today in paper but saying this is the argument used and its not true Hmm

winterisnigh · 06/12/2016 19:53

widow

I think MN is for everyone and its not for posters to say who can or cant g on a thread.

But some threads are started up with a purpose and if that purpose is in the spirit of a cosy pub, friendly etc storming into any pub on attack mode is not the done thing, constant fire etc...not surprised the LL gets riled from time to time. Some posters write in a very aggressive way.

I know, one of them lost the plot a few weeks back.

Bearbehind · 06/12/2016 20:12

I assume you mean me winter but I did not lose the plot at all.

The spirit of this thread, despite its assertion that it welcomed everyone, it actually that it is only for people to back slap each other about how fantastic leaving the EU will be without having a fucking clue how it will work in practice.

I suggest you look a bit closer to home to establish who has truly lost the plot.

Figmentofmyimagination · 06/12/2016 20:36

Err no. I'm not quoting from an article. I was merely pointing out that right at the moment, there is an awful lot of irrelevant rubbish being fed to people about the personal characteristics of judges, without appreciating (or in some cases perhaps intentionally obscuring) the fact that in the UK, the quality of judicial decision making - especially in the appellate courts - is exceptionally high.

This is a dangerous trend. No need to quote from an article to make this point however!

Kaija · 06/12/2016 23:14

"I know, one of them lost the plot a few weeks back"

That was WinchesterWoman I think. Had a big sweary meltdown at someone who accused her of pulling the old doorbell trick.

Ah, those were the days. That was of course before we knew we were having a red, white and blue Brexit.

MangoMoon · 07/12/2016 06:50

Smallfox was the one who lost the plot completely from my point of view.
Nasty piece of work (s)he turned out to be.

Chris1234567890 · 07/12/2016 07:01

With all the shenanigans happening today around the supreme court and the House, its worth noting Niall Fergusons flip flopping. The red tops are running with his u-turn on Brexit today. Niall Ferguson, the man who said 'its not about my good looks, its the fact Im clever' has done one thing very well over the course of his rising celebrity. He flip flops his views onto the winning horse of the day. Its very easy to rip Niall Fergusons views apart, he follows the £ and is indeed a self confessed economic historian, but the fact hes gone public this week with his u-turn on brexit says reams. The EU is dead. Has Niall Fergusson stacked his good looks (and future earning capacity) on the fall of the EU empire within the next 12 months? Yes I think so.

I am beginning to feel heartened by the smugness oozing from the guardian in their coverage of the Supreme Court.

https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2016/dec/06/supreme-court-justices-subdued-in-face-of-a-pannick-attack-gina-miller-barrister-article-50?CMP=sharebtnn_tw

The usual pattern of late is for simpering, head tilty, tinkly laughing guardianistas to double over with mirth at just how silly it all is - whilst simultaneously back slapping each other on a job well done before a result comes out.
They then spend the following weeks handwringing about 'how could they have been so wrong???'

So I live in hope that this situation follows the usual, and that the Supreme Court judge in favour of the govt.

I also hope the judges - the top of their field - read the Guardian's depictions of themselves too:

Gentle pussycats
Fallen under Pannick's spell
Apologetic [to Pannick]
Just there to 'Rubber Stamp'
Forget to ask if something is 'germane to the proceedings' because they 'daren't interrupt the master in full flow'.
Like putty in [Pannick's] hands.

squoosh · 07/12/2016 07:42

Yeah between those phrases and the Enemies of the People bile of the DM I'm sure their heads will be in quite the spin.

Or maybe not. Maybe they'll just get on with the job in hand.

surferjet · 07/12/2016 07:59

Yes. Let's just get on with it, it's getting a bit boring now.
The EU can't wait to see the back of us so let's just get out ASAP.

MangoMoon · 07/12/2016 08:40

I think, from a personal perspective, I'd much rather be 'an enemy of the people', and confident that I'd put my impartiality before my popularity.
To be painted as a simpering fanboy/fangirl, who practically dissolved into a frothy heap due to mere proximity to the 'star of the bar' and left unable to form a coherent thought is beyond embarrassing.

Copperas · 07/12/2016 08:50

But this was from the humorous piece by John Crace - isn't humour recognizable any longer?
