The people of Richmond have spoken up for all the uk. We don't want to wait months to get our kitchen extensions built. We don't want our cleaners charging £10 an hour. We should all rise up and march on Parliament and make our nannies and au pairs come too. I bet the stupid brexiteers don't even realise the effect their actions may have on boarding school fees

Just seen this on FB Grin

The 2 brexiteers I know in real life are both well off; they own their own homes mortgage free and have investment properties. One has a child at boarding school.

MangoMoon · 02/12/2016 12:11

You only know 2 Leave voters irl?!

InfiniteSheldon · 02/12/2016 12:13

I only know two Remain voters both have changed their minds and would now vote leave

surferjet · 02/12/2016 12:13

Typical remainer is a rich southerner wanting cheap labour from abroad.
Carry on supporting these people if you like.

I remember your post, Surfer, where you said: all the leavers you knew were comfortably off, well-educated Southerners. Grin

Shall we agree that wealthier people have no right to an opinion at all?

Do you want all remainers arrested for treason or just the ones in Richmond?

MangoMoon · 02/12/2016 12:15

Twofingers, that tweet is awful.
I presume (would like to hope) that it will be taken seriously by the police.
It's disgusting.

Love the People of Richmond FB post though Surfer Grin

surferjet · 02/12/2016 12:19

You can be rich and have morals, or you can be rich and reject democracy because you want to pay peanuts for your nanny from Poland.

Which of course explains why Scotland and Northern Ireland voted Remain?

Grin

What about if you're rich and honestly want to arrest people (celebrating Richmond) for treason?

What category do you fall in then?

MangoMoon · 02/12/2016 12:23

Of all the people I know, most are Leavers, a handful of Remainers.

Only a very, very small number of people I know on a personal level are extremely wealthy and/or well connected - and they're Remainers as far as I know.

Out of everyone I know, there are a small number of very vocal on either side (believe it or not, I'm not massively vocal about it all Grin) - most just engage in debate on whichever side when something big happens.

Most people are just getting on with their lives, but are adamant they'd vote the same way again.
One remainer would now vote Leave, no leavers have switched to Remain (as far as I'm aware).

SeekEveryEveryKnownHidingPlace · 02/12/2016 13:06

I don't know any Leave voters. Not one. DP works with a fair few. They went a bit quiet after the result though, but other colleagues get angry with them when orders get cancelled or they can charge less for stuff.

RBeer · 02/12/2016 13:53

My best friend's family have changed their minds and now would vote remain. When their kids made their argument of how it will derail their future prospects their parents realised their vote was poor choice.

MitzyLeFrouf · 02/12/2016 13:55

Hmmm. Doesn't quite fit the description of a single Remainer I know here in Glasgow. Glasgow, a haven for the 'metropolitan elite'.

LittlePickleHead · 02/12/2016 13:57

What bullshit surfer

48% of voters are rich southerners? Who have nannies?

Personally everyone I know is a remainer, aside from a few family members (grandparents and father). The Leave voters are the ones who are financially secure with paid up mortgages and savings.

Me and my remain voting friends, most of us with young families (and not a nanny between us!) not so much.

What can I deduce? That our small personal samples mean jack shit and you can't categorise either Leavers or Remainers with purile stereotypes.

Maybe this byelection means nothing, or maybe it means that if you are a remain voter who is disillusioned by the direction the government is taking (or not taking, or may be taking - who bloody knows) and you are equally disillusioned with Labour, then Lib Dems feel like the only party actually taking any notice of you at the moment.

Time will tell.

(wishes for millionth time since vote that I was as elite as apparently I'm supposed to be)

MitzyLeFrouf · 02/12/2016 14:03

And surfer, if you can afford Gucci clothes you're a lot richer than I am. Smile

Figmentofmyimagination · 02/12/2016 14:05

Indeed. It's interesting that even though Goldsmith was notionally standing as an "independent", no Conservative or UKIP candidate stood against him, to try to shore up his vote, and he still lost.

birdybirdywoofwoof · 02/12/2016 14:09

I know three leavers who have died since the vote, and one who will most likely be dead by Xmas.
(None of these deaths had anything to do with me btw!)

InfiniteSheldon · 02/12/2016 14:32

I know six remainders who have false teeth

MitzyLeFrouf · 02/12/2016 14:33

That's what serial killers always say! Grin

twofingerstoGideon · 02/12/2016 14:33

This is the usual old tosh from surfer. As a lowish-waged, ex-homeless, single parent remain voter, may I say she is talking out of her arse? As another poster has already pointed out, someone who likes Gucci and spills bottles of £100+ perfume is hardly a member of the downtrodden proletariat. Down my way, it's wealthy landowners and retired people in detached bungalows who voted leave (they had the posters up before the referendum) so surfer's assertion is just the usual divisive claptrap.

birdybirdywoofwoof · 02/12/2016 14:47

I think you're allowed to indulge in divisive claptrap if you are pro-Brexit on here though.

It's only if you voted remain and try that, then people really get the hump.

InfiniteSheldon · 02/12/2016 14:49

I don't think there is a type and Gideon your post reeks of the exact divisivenessyou accuse of Surfer of. The Ashcroft report showed that there isn't a typical voter the sentiment went across class and age and financial position. It's a basic desire for either less or more remote accountable government Leavers want less Remainers are happy with more.

twofingerstoGideon · 02/12/2016 15:54
