What does the price of perfume have to do with anything?

Different people spend on different things.

A tattoo can cost £165 - are tattoos the preserve of the elite now, too?

SeekEveryEveryKnownHidingPlace · 24/11/2016 14:26

I don't get the perfume thing either.

Rorty's post sums it up - at least in Shaun of the Dead they were in an actual pub ignoring reality! You sit and sing Queen, bless you.

SeekEveryEveryKnownHidingPlace · 24/11/2016 14:27

ps Rorty - a single billion is a thousand million. We're looking for 59 of those. Got any of those pennies down the back of your sofa?

RortyCrankle · 24/11/2016 14:40

I am completely tone deaf so can assure you that if I started to sing anything you would run screaming from the pub.

Oh and don't knock Queen - Freddie was the best, bless him.

Oh oh and I thought I WAS living in reality - well if I'm not I would prefer not to have arthritis and have to use a walking frame. But do let me know if I'm mistaken, then I could go out for a run later Grin

Dapplegrey1 · 24/11/2016 14:46

Seek -
"I didn't see the rich elite on the protest march I went on, that's for sure!"
So you were able to tell the income of everyone you saw on your protest march?
Wow.
You didn't see any rich people on the march so no one rich voted remain.
In the lead up to the referendum and afterwards there were loads of millionaires supporting remain.

shirleyknotanotherbot · 24/11/2016 14:46

I don't understand how you can say 'it' is worth every penny when we have no idea what 'it' really is or how much 'it' will really cost.

I've always preferred The Smiths to Queen.

SeekEveryEveryKnownHidingPlace · 24/11/2016 14:55

There were millionaires on both sides to be fair.

I suppose what I mean is, Dapple, I didn't see government ministers or landed gentry, which I assume is what is meant by the rich elite. I saw families, students, activists, people I know ... and unless we're all the rich elite, and I don't think we are, who is this rich elite?

The point isn't that I said 'no one rich voted remain' (because I didn't) - it's that other posters are saying that it's the 'rich elite' who are annoyed about the referendum result. I don't think it is - I think it's a lot of normal, ordinary, people. The rich elite will be fine either way!

SeekEveryEveryKnownHidingPlace · 24/11/2016 14:56

I like the Housemartins, Shirley.
^The people who grinned themselves to death
Smiled so much they failed to take a breath
And even when their kids were starving
They all thought the Queen was charming^

Petronius Tax discs are no longer issued. Stopped approx 18 months ago.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 24/11/2016 18:16

Was just about to say, if it costs 100 billion it'll be worth every penny.

What exactly are you selling in this Brexit fantasy pub apart from Kool Aid?

LittlePickleHead · 24/11/2016 18:24

I'm assuming those saying it's worth every penny are financially secure and can ride out a storm?

I'm worried we can't. 2008 was hard enough and it feels like one blow after the next.

Surely as the winning side you can be gracious enough to see that those of us with concerns, in our millions, are made up of families who are worried about a financial downturn and what this may mean for our futures?

Your "worth it" is other people's job losses, financial insecurity and cutting back where they may be very little fat to trim.

If you are sure it will be worth it - well I'm sure all of our fears will be alleviated once the positives become glaringly obvious. And I'll breathe a sigh of relief.

In the meantime, try not to be such sore winners and understand that things are not looking that rosy for all of us right now.

Jaybee99 · 24/11/2016 18:28

Most of those who say 'it will be worth it' are financially comfortable or retired or in denial as to how this will play out.

MangoMoon · 24/11/2016 18:29

Oh! Yes, yes!

We've all 'drunk the kool aid', just like we all 'believe we're getting a unicorn' etc.

Do people actually swagger away feeling a little bit better about themselves when they make smug, self satisfied comments?

GhostofFrankGrimes · 24/11/2016 18:29

so much for the will of the people more like I'm alright Jack.

LittlePickleHead · 24/11/2016 18:32

I've made no smug self satisfied comments Mango.

Would you like to respond to my post?

LittlePickleHead · 24/11/2016 18:37

My dad and step mum are also one of the "it's worth it" crew.

Mortgage free, lots of savings, due to retire in a few years from high salary job.

I guess it is worth it if you can take the risk and know you'll be ok hey?

Meanwhile DH is desperately job hunting whilst knowing that if the £ and outlook for his company doesn't improve soon his days are numbered.

(And yes, without outing myself, he is UK based with an EU job so the drop in the £ is having an immediate
effect)

MangoMoon · 24/11/2016 18:39

LittlePickle, my post was in response to the 'KoolAid' post, not yours.

What specifically do you want me to respond to in your post?

My children get free school meals, I am not exactly flush.
I still think Brexit will be worth it in the end.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 24/11/2016 18:40

Oh I'm ecstatic that this country has been plunged into economic peril over a referendum designed purely to save David Cameron's hide. It's not like I need a job to pay my mortgage and eat food. I'm not part of the elite either having grown up on a council estate. I do, however, take comfort in a pro Brexit thread that contains hundreds of posts with NO SUBSTANCE as to what leaving the EU will entail. Better still we have a government with NO BREXIT plan. I'll just sit here in the corner until my unicorn milk turns up.

MangoMoon · 24/11/2016 18:41

Nobody is forcing you to read or post.
It's not a dictatorship.

surferjet · 24/11/2016 18:42

Point taken.

LittlePickleHead · 24/11/2016 18:43

I'm genuinely intrigued then. Does an economic downturn not worry you at all?

We were both made redundant in 2009 as a direct result of the 2008 crash so perhaps I'm more stressed about this than necessary.

We don't have a lot of extra cash to take into account rising food prices and stagnating wages. Add in job insecurity and it all feels relentless and not very worth it to me.

LittlePickleHead · 24/11/2016 18:44

That was to Mango

MangoMoon · 24/11/2016 18:55

I'm genuinely sorry that you are in a precarious position & especially that you (and others) are experiencing such anxiety about it all.
(It sounds like I am being snarky, but I'm not - I'm genuine).

For me, I lost everything a couple of years ago - I hit rock bottom in many ways and had to 'ride the wave' to get through it all.
I am now in a position where I am content - skint, single mum etc, but content.

I would have voted Leave if the ref had been 10, 5 or 3 years ago if I'm honest, I've always been eurosceptic - in the run up to the ref I read a lot of Remain arguments to see if I could be persuaded otherwise but I wasn't.

I am not getting anxious about the future as I believe I voted for a better future in the long run.
I never expected a quick endgame, I always expected an initial period of pain - but I believe it is for long term gain.

LittlePickleHead · 24/11/2016 19:02

Well I do appreciate your thoughts.

I genuinely wish I could approach a 'wait and see' approach and be less worried about the future.

I think the apparent disregard for anyone with genuine worries is getting to me. I don't particularly care about being called a Remoaner.

I think I could get on board if I could see that it will all work out to be better. It's just that I can't see that at the moment!

I hate the way that the leavers and remainers I know personally (I accept it's not like this everywhere) -are so dogmatic and unable to see the other sides point of view.

If there was more of an acceptance that people are within their rights to feel concerned, and they were properly considered (rather than "it's worth it" or "shut up") id feel a lot more confident that we'll make a success of leaving.

Anyway sorry for the interruption, I'll leave you to get smashed!

GhostofFrankGrimes · 24/11/2016 19:39

Oh good, Brexit boils down to a Hallmark cliche. I don't know why people are worried.
