I wasn't going to start another of these threads after the second ended last night but today's ruling in the High court is pretty significant so I thought I'd ask again

Are you happy with the current state of play?

Ah, the old question with a question autumn

Fair enough

Why spunky?

It's a really important issue, why don't you want it in your line of vision?

Pot and kettle!

Marmitelover55 · 03/11/2016 21:20

Much happier after today's pro-democracy decision. Very glad that parliament will get to debate how we leave the EU and slightly more hopeful that we won't actually leave as a delay, which I now believe is more likely, will allow more time for people to realise the error of their ways Smile

SabineUndine · 03/11/2016 21:21

I'm not sure which way Brexit actually IS heading, tbh!

Bearbehind · 03/11/2016 21:21

Thanks for the reply 'marinate' Grin

I'm feeling happy today because it's another sign brexit is heading for the bin.
In general, no I'm not happy the pound is dropping, we have no opportunity for exporting, we are an international laughing stock and many people are showing a nasty, superior isolationist side.
I agree with thora and essential. Delicious irony in the brexit supporters getting miffed that we'very taken back control.
Imagine the fun if an appeal goes to the European Court Grin

Felascloak · 03/11/2016 21:23

Oh and marmite. Great post

pointythings · 03/11/2016 21:24

I think the posters who are objecting to this being posted in AIBU should ask MNHQ to organise a binding referendum asking the following question: 'Should there be strict rules about which types of post can be posted under which topic?'

And then we can negotiate the terms and the laws after the outcome is known. Could be fascinating.

Piscivorus · 03/11/2016 21:33

I wish I'd paid more attention at the time but there was an interview in The Times a week or two ago with the woman behind this challenge in which, I think, she implied that she disagreed with the referendum result and her main aim, with this case, was to undermine that result and stop Brexit. Nothing about sovereignty or debate, simply, I will use my money to get the result I want.

I admit I skim read it but remember being shocked at the time. Did anyone else see it? Have I misread or are we allowing money to subvert democracy? That seems very dangerous to me no matter how flawed that democracy may be.

AutumnLeavesAgain · 03/11/2016 21:34

I don't object really I just thought the poster slagged of for being "thread police" didn't deserve it!

If people want to engage fair enough. If they don't, well let them be.

Snotty attitudes won't heal a fractured nation.😉 Peace and love etc..

DeviTheGaelet · 03/11/2016 21:36

piscivorous that could be her intention. It doesn't change the fact though that parliament is democracy. Theresa May doesn't get to just define what brexit is and push it through without proper scrutiny. That isn't democracy. Leavers should be equally pleased as retainers by this ruling.

EveOnline2016 · 03/11/2016 21:36

I voted leave.

I am happy with the ruling, if brexit doesn't happen then that why we vote for. It's to put our trust in people who know what they are doing.

Bearbehind · 03/11/2016 21:40

autumn the 'thread police' was because wasonthelist pops up on every Brexit thread and says the same thing- it wasn't a one off thing,

OP posts:
Chickpearocker · 03/11/2016 21:41

The people of Ireland don't have a choice in the matter, the majority of which voted to stay. How's that for democracy.

Believeitornot · 03/11/2016 21:41

I voted remain.

I believe we will exit the EU for fucks sake what a crazy thing we are doing but there you go

However I was outraged that Theresa thought she could just side step parliament. What! We have Parliament to act as a check and balance on government. It is there to help hold government to account and that includes making sure they don't fuck up brexit.

So glad that today's ruling was what it was.

AutumnLeavesAgain · 03/11/2016 21:42

Maybe she scans AIBU for more juicy fare and finds these threads a pain?
Who are we to judge

Just repeat:
"I'm OK , you're OK" a few times.

Marmitelover55 · 03/11/2016 21:51

Ah yes bear - happy to "marinate" tonight. Don't think WW will be quite so keen though Grin

EnthusiasmDisturbed · 03/11/2016 22:04

This is so fucked all this should have been worked out long before a date was even set

I do not remember once hearing (though I did read it) during the campaign from either side that is was advisory and I listened to lots of radio, watched the debates and other programmes

I don't believe it will change anything I am hoping it will influence the process

Topseyt · 03/11/2016 22:05

I voted remain. I have never been happy with the way Brexit was heading but today I finally have just a little ray of hope.

Theresa May is being called to account over her arrogance. She thought she could sidestep Parliament but this ruling puts paid to that. We now have to hope that the Supreme Court upholds it.

Parliament must be involved every step of the way. If that means so many delays that Article 50 is never triggered and the ridiculous Brexit never happens then so be it.

Bearbehind · 03/11/2016 22:39

Absolute fuckers.

Why are people so fucking blinkered these threads get moved to a quiet corner where the la la people can make it go anyway.

OP posts:
AutumnLeavesAgain · 03/11/2016 23:34

Now I feel bad for you bear. Let me bump your thread.

My DH, a remainer has said he wants to get to a vote by MPs and if it wasn't then for leave then he would be livid.

And if there was another referendum he'd vote leave! I was quite surprised.

I voted leave and am a bit ho hum about our current parliament, being a disillusioned Labour voter.

I am more exercised by the Keith Vaz saga tbh.

Buttercupsandaisies · 03/11/2016 23:47

I'm but miffed at these threads too - all the same with over representation from predominant remain regions.

I voted leave. I don't regret my choice (neither do any of the leave voters I know!). I live in a region who voted to leave.

In fact several of my remain friends have stated they would vote leave out of democracy/protest if it doesn't go through.

Just like not all brexiters were uneducated, not all remainers were hard core on the facts - or strongly pro EU- many just voted for a position of no change. However I know even they believe the vote should go through regardless as that was the majority choice.

If there was another vote, I believe more people would join the leave side to prove a point of principle. I don't think remain would win at all in a new vote- I actually think they'd lose by a bigger margin

TheNumberfaker · 03/11/2016 23:51

• Because it's "boring"?
• Because we voted over 4 months ago, get over it?!
• Because leave voters don't want to face up to the consequences of their decision?
• Because people are more interested in X factor, Kardashians and baking etc than the impending economic doom that Brexit will bring?

Bananagio · 04/11/2016 07:02

Can't we have one ongoing thread on a busy board (so not the EU section) to discuss Brexit. Ongoing because Brexit is - you know- an ongoing situation where the main act hasn't happened yet! Hmm. And quite an important event. Can't believe this has been moved again. Have said before, if other boards were being swamped as they were around the time of the referendum then I would understand but that is hardly the case now ffs! Am off to request that the thread about Beatrice and Eugenie becoming full time royals gets moved to the Royal Family board from AIBU as the very suggestion they may makes my blood pressure rise every time I see it. Except I won't because a) there are not multiple threads saying the same thing in AIBU and b) I don't have to open it. Bloody ridiculous policing of threads!
