We are now in the throes of a right wing agenda willing to bring down the country for its own ideological beliefs. Bad things happen when good people do nothing. I for one will stand up so lest my children say I did nothing.

Mistigri - even though (or perhaps because Wink) I live in Scotland, I think I'll contribute to that crowdfunding appeal.

MirabelleTree · 16/10/2016 09:49

My hope is that a strong centre group will emerge from the large number of disaffected MPs on both sides which will rein back the government's lurch to the right and a catastrophically hard Brexit before it's too late.

This is my hope too and I think why it is important for people to keep up letter writing to MP's. Ours was firmly Leave but despite this I'm going to encourage DD to encourage her friends to write to him when they hit 18 and the other one as we are on a boundary (must look up how he voted) and let them know their views as a new voter.

MagikarpetRide · 16/10/2016 09:54

I hope that too. I'm not sure the way to fight a swing to the far right is by swinging to the far left.

I quite like Anna Soubry. Don't always agree with her but I admire that she doesn't give a chuff about party lines and does what she believes is right. I wish more politicians would do that.

WinchesterWoman · 16/10/2016 09:54

can't the adobe pls copy and paste

do you deny the nature of True Vision reporting?

It's up to you to produce concrete evidence - how can I disprove something when you haven't even proved it in the first place

MirabelleTree · 16/10/2016 09:56

Totally agree about wishing more politicians wouldn't always take the party line and was pleased to see some standing up and saying this issue is so big it transcends party politics.

prettybird · 16/10/2016 09:57

There's not much point me writing to my MP (or MSP) as I know that he is fundamentally opposed to Brexit and will be voting against it - if Parliament ever gets a chance to vote on it. Hmm

WinchesterWoman · 16/10/2016 09:57

Hard Brexit and soft Brexit is a false, made up distinction by remainers who can't accept the result and thing that they can call 'staying in the EU single market, obeying its rules of free movement and paying money to Brussels' can be redefined as Brexit by calling it 'soft Brexit'.

That's not Brexit. Brexit is leaving the EU, not obeying its rules, and negotiating new deals including the type of deals we do with the EU single market. That's being described as 'hard brexit' now. In fact that's Brexit. And yes the country did vote for that.

WinchesterWoman · 16/10/2016 09:59

In fact having read the OP again I would say

'We are now in the throes of a left wing agenda willing to bring down the country for its own ideological beliefs'

And disobey and disregard the will of the people to boot.

shirleyknotanotherbot · 16/10/2016 09:59

I have:

  • Joined the Lib Dems
  • Contributed to Crowdfunding campaigns
  • Signed numerous petitions
  • Written to my MP
  • Continued to respond to any misinformation shared on social media (and in RL)
  • Continued to share real information on social media and in RL.

If there is anything more I can do please advise.

Kaija · 16/10/2016 10:00

Yes. I agree that keeping the pressure up on MPs is vital. Mine is a Lib Dem remain supporter, but even he is toeing the "will of the people" line now (we're predominantly but not overwhelmingly Leave in this area), and is busying himself with the iniquities of train companies rather than making any contribution on the EU debate.

It might perhaps be helpful if people posted their letters to MPs on this thread.

What do you think?

WinchesterWoman · 16/10/2016 10:01

There is a mandate here: there was a mandate at the general election for calling a referendum and there was a mandate at the referendum for Brexit. MPs have no right to disregard it. Nor do you.

MirabelleTree · 16/10/2016 10:01

Looked up to see the views of the other MP locally and he was instrumental on calling for the Referendum so DD's friends over there will probably end up with letters filed in the bin but i think it is still worth them writing.

WinchesterWoman · 16/10/2016 10:01

My god you're outrageous! Do what WE want now even though we lost the vote!

WidowWadman · 16/10/2016 10:03

Winchesterwoman the 2015 Tory manifesto clearly included remaining in the single market. What do you make of that?

MirabelleTree · 16/10/2016 10:03

If it means that this new generation of voters do become more politically engaged then in my opinion that would be a good thing.

TheElementsSong · 16/10/2016 10:04

Kaija · 16/10/2016 10:04

Winchester, you do not know what was in the minds of the voters. The ballot paper said leave or remain, nothing else, and staying within the single market was one of the (many) options presented by leave campaigners.

Even Farage was pointing to Norway as a possible model for the UK some months before the vote.

jaws5 · 16/10/2016 10:06

WW don't you see that nobody needs to "talk it down", the three brexiteers do a great job themselves. I don't understand why you leave voters are not furious. Fox "fat and lazy" remarks, Davis lack of basic knowledge about EU negotiations, Johnson's revelations today...

Kaija · 16/10/2016 10:07

"My god you're outrageous! Do what WE want now even though we lost the vote!"

Clutching your pearls isn't going to help I'm afraid. Democracy did not end on 24th June.

MirabelleTree · 16/10/2016 10:10

Kaija I think if people don't mind posting a template to help if someone gets a bit of writer's block that could be very helpful.

LordRothermereBlackshirtCunt · 16/10/2016 10:12

Listen up people, Winchester Woman and the Daily Express think you should shut up now! Let the government draw up its yellow star list and don't you dare write to your MP, because there was an overwhelming (ahem) majority vote for something that - four months down the line - has yet to be defined as anything other than a tautology.

Stop debating! End the thread now! Rename the "EU Referendum" board "worship here oh ye of (blind) Brexit faith"

MagikarpetRide · 16/10/2016 10:12

Mandate is permission not law. The government now have our permission to exit the eu. They aren't however obliged to do it.

We definitely need to keep the pressure up sadly my mp is pro brexit and anti women so won't help

shirleyknotanotherbot · 16/10/2016 10:13

Prettybird - I think you should write to your MP to show your support for their stance on Brexit.

WinchesterWoman · 16/10/2016 10:14

Of course it was in the manifesto - they campaigned for a change in the rules so they could stay in the EU and the government 'top three' (PM Chanc and Home Sec) and most of the cabinet campaigned to remain. Why is that surprising? They also had a referendum in the manifesto.
