If this isn't what you voted for stand up and be counted!

So all those Brexiteers and Lexiters who didn't vote on the basis of immigration controls, where are you? Will there be marches against May's interpretation of your vote?

You know, I actually believe that plenty of people didn't realise what their vote was going to unleash despite being warned frequently and emphatically. It's not too late to speak out and stand up against it. If you didn't mean it, don't hide behind that you haven't meant it. Do something about it.

Pro-tip: declaring xenophobic things to be not xenophobic, actually is not speaking out against it or distancing yourself from it. Declaring hurt at being lumped in with the xenophobes without outright condemnation of their rhetoric doesn't count as standing up to it. Much the opposite.

What many remainders on here ( but not the ones I know in RL) fail to realise is that many leavers voted to end freedom of movement.
TM is correct in saying that.
And they are quite prepared to leave the single market to achieve this.
I firmly believe that the Government will achieve trade deals which surpass membership of the single market.
And the single market is more valuable to many EU exporting companies than it is to the UK.
The Government is entitled to take us out of the EU without a parliamentary debate. A debate is not required by UK law.
And I am hoping for a hard Brexit.
And I do not intend to explain any of my reasons to Small or other demanding, rude posters.

No, because you can't justify what you say. Thanks for the name check btw.

Unicorns for all eh?

smallfox2002 · 13/10/2016 21:33

Oh and we do realise that many leavers voted to end freedom of movement. The fact is that the reasons for this are often based on ill reasoned logic, faulty information and prejudice.

I'll reasoned logic also give you your confident position that the government will get us better trade deals.

Oh and that the government can take us out of the EU without a parliamentary vote or repeal laws without consultation.

Essentially your view is that you won and you want what you think k you voted for.

Enjoy your dinner little oyster, the walrus is going to be so nice to you.

Peregrina · 13/10/2016 21:41

I must say, I am not confident of better trade deals for the simple reason that May has put the most idiotic people in charge of Brexit. Surely she has better talent in her party than Fox, Davis and Johnson?

Tryingtosaveup · 13/10/2016 21:47

Peregrina, I do believe we will get better trade deals. However, we can but wait and see.
Nobody actually knows, so all we can do is wait and see. But I remain hopeful.
Thank you for being civil.

Bearbehind · 13/10/2016 22:06

trying could you tell us why you believe we will get better trade deals?

smallfox2002 · 13/10/2016 22:24

The thing is with better trade deals is you have to look at what we can offer.

If we come out of the customs union you can virtually guarantee that the majority of car manufacturers will leave. The increased costs of parts moving from the EU into the UK and back with all the artificial barriers to trade (evidence of origin, waiting times at ports/borders etc) along with official barriers such as tariffs will increase the costs so much that we aren't a viable option as a manufacturing base.

Further 59% of our current exports go to the EU or to countries with preferential deals with the EU. Outside of the EU is one thing, but would we get the same preferential deals from countries without being able to offer them as big markets or benefits that the EU deals do.

The BRICS countries currently make about about 5 % of our exports, and to increase to replace sections of EU trade that we will lose will take significant effort, and also has a fair chance of not occuring ( India for one is notoriously protectionist about opening up its markets, as for China? I point you to the deal done with the Swiss).

We'd also have to consider the impact of no freedom of movement of capital within the EU. Currently British firms are free to invest and to repatriate profits from any country in the EU, its far outwieghs anything spent on EU immigrants.

So, please tell me how we will do better trade deals.
