THE BREXIT FALLOUT CONTINUES - THREAD NINE

The Tories have settled their scores and May is now PM.
Is it May's Day or May Day for the people?

After careful consideration I thought the best way to sum up the Labour Contest was in one simple picture. May Day, might also be appropriate here too.

Things are moving fast, so hold on tight for the Brexit Ride

Sense of humour compulsory. No experience necessary though

Merry

I have been abused and ridiculed by so many JC's supporters online it is untrue - I stand by what I say. Also I am a firm believer in supporting a party, it's values, principles etc. One that is electable and has a leader who can lead and contribute to our democracy. I would never join a party because of it's leader. I left the party on principle over the Iraq war. Not Blair as a leader but the decision the party as a whole took.

I rejoined the party not due to JC but because I believe the party has a lot to offer the country. But it requires a leader. JC can not lead and will split the party. Losing members will be unfortunate but the party will survive - it did before. If he stays the party and potentially the TUC will split. That is unthinkable

yay.....another good day from TM. great news Hunt is sticking around to get the junior doctors inline and seeing sense...(or in the very least, start putting patients first). The GPs crippled the NHS with their contract negotiation, so my guess, Mays going to give Hunt the support he should have had from Cameron.

Loving this clear out! Keep it coming TM Smile

OppositeOfGenius · 14/07/2016 13:53

Chris ... Are you serious? Do you honestly not know why junior doctors have been striking etc?

Of course they don't get a say. Your average man on the street is not a member of any party. However the Brexit vote seems not to have woken people up to the fact parliament is completely out of touch with much of the poor uk. Jeremy and UKIP have the best chance with these people, but looks like UKIP are going to do well simply as a protest.

JamieVardysParty · 14/07/2016 13:54

I disagree with a lot of JC's policies but always admired him for being principled.

Unfortunately I think he now just comes across as being stubborn and acting in his own interests, using the whole mandate thing as an excuse.

A divided Labour is not in the best interests of the Party, of the people or of the country.

Showmethewaytogohome · 14/07/2016 13:55

What I think I am saying is - and I have said it many time- I agree with an awful lot of the principles of JC. I do not agree he can lead. I can seperate the man from the policies.

I think he has acted appallingly. If 80% of your employees walked out of their jobs and told you you were an awful boss I think 99% of the population would take a long look in the mirror - JC just held a rally

derxa · 14/07/2016 13:56

I know people are going to throw a shower of shite at me but if the Labour party had got behind Jeremy Corbyn then they wouldn't be in the mess they are today. The Stephen Kinnocks of this world just don't get it- people see him as a career politician with no understanding of the concerns of ordinary people. Theresa May is positioning herself as a champion of social justice. If the backstabbers had waited a bit they could have challenged her. Not now.

OlennasWimple · 14/07/2016 13:56

We ought not to let Natalie Evans meteoric rise go unnoticed

And is Justine Greening the Lady Chancellor??

RedToothBrush · 14/07/2016 13:56

I hope they put someone sensible in the NI job. NI has been shafted by Brexit.

prettybird · 14/07/2016 13:58

Have I missed the Scottish Secretary position being filled?

I use this thread as my news feed Wink

MerryMarigold · 14/07/2016 13:58

As for all the polls. Well they were wrong about the last election and they were wrong about Brexit. After print my hope on polls twice now, I feel a bit disgruntled.

Helmetbymidnight · 14/07/2016 13:59

I know people are going to throw a shower of shite at me

No shite but...Labour, as they are now, are finished.

MerryMarigold · 14/07/2016 14:00

Showme, so you prefer Angela Eagle's principles or Jeremy Corbyn's?

I agree Merry - but that is the issue. If people vote UKIP rather than Labour it means that Labour's message is not reaching - he has been in the post long enough for his messages to reach - they are not. Preaching to the converted, holding rallies to the converted isn't spending time reaching the people who are turning against voting for Labour.

If he isn't reaching the electorate and not able to manage his staff (MP's) what is he actually doing and achieving - apart from allowing schism, tensions and spilts. What could be expected from someone who has never lead and never actually even been part of a functioning team. It is his watch. He has ultimate responsibility.

OlennasWimple · 14/07/2016 14:02

derxa I agree

I also want the Lib Dems to stop moping and roar into life. Would a Lib-Lab parliamentary opposition work, I wonder

MerryMarigold · 14/07/2016 14:02

I agree. Labour as they are now are finished. They messed up big time. And not Corbyn. Hard to forgive.

RedToothBrush · 14/07/2016 14:03

I'll take NI if no one else wants it (which seems to be the case atm)

KatieHopkinsAteMyHamster99 · 14/07/2016 14:04

St Jeremy only ever preaches to the converted, doesn't he. He hates being doorstepped and refuses to make any comment to journalists. He has enclosed himself in a bubble of people who agree with him.

Showmethewaytogohome · 14/07/2016 14:06

Merry - the polls were not wrong about Brexit - they really were not which is why I was pooing myself Sad

I don't think I have to be pro someone else to think JC is a bad leader. But. If I were to make my choice it would be Keir Starmer. Hands down

Got to say though that JC can never keep his promises either. We do support him but acknowledge he will never be PM

...

MerryMarigold · 14/07/2016 14:06

People voted leave as a punch the face to DC. Not because Jeremy did a bad job.he could have done a good job, but let's face it, he didn't have a good team to use because the labour party never wanted him (is that conspiracy?). hindsight is a wonderful rhing I know, but if people had supported him properly, seen that this could be a very different way forward, we wouldn' lt be here now.
